Capcom: 90% of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third-person with first person more divisive

Capcom‘s internal data for Resident Evil: Requiem has revealed that the vast majority of players preferred the third person perspective as Leon Kennedy, while the first person sections with Grace proved to be more divisive with players. Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa said that the majority of players didn’t deviate from the preset perspectives and stuck with them, which is similar to the Capcom’s data obtained on various show floor demos.

According to Nakanishi, figures dated one month after Requiem’s release reveal that around 90% of players chose to play in third person for their first playthrough of Leon’s action-oriented sections. Grace’s horror-focused sections were more divided, with 60% sticking with the default first-person settings and 40% switching to third person.

  1. Interesting data. I did the default the first time around. The first person was chef’s kiss for the tense Grace parts.

    1. I just generally despise 1st person. I actually felt more emotion with Emily too when watching grace carry her around. I just can’t seem to connect with a character I can’t see… but that’s just me. also, there’s enough 1st person zombie games. it’s nice to have one that’s 3rd person. Just my personal opinion. Everybody has different preferences.

      1. I feel like the parts where you’re running from scary unbeatable monsters like Girl and The Children is much scarier in first person, but you bring up good points. I’ll replay it soon in third person while I farm those missions. :)

      2. Every part carrying Grace was an annoying chore. I would rather never having to micro manage my way around Zombies. I don’t care to watch a female carry a child. What a pointless aspect of such a fun title.

  2. Interesting. I changed the Grace perspective to third person almost immediately. The initial change between characters didn’t work for me.

One of my reservations about RE7 was that I felt it was more like Outlast/ Isolation than a Resident Evil game.

Not a huge issue, but personally I enjoyed RE9 all in 3rd person.

    1. I’m excited to play Grace’s in third person next playthrough. TBH Grace’s parts were my fav, quintessential classic RE gameplay for me!

  3. I prefer 3rd person in general, was never able to really get into the fps games (with the exception of battlefield 1 but that’s because my fascination with WWI is greater than my general dislike of fps games) anyway, I did the default and actually loves the first person grace sections, definitely added to the dread and tension . Made the survival horror more immersive.

  4. I have to use third person as first person makes me nauseous. And this is the only game that does that.

  5. These articles seriously exaggerate the percentage there’s no way 90% prefer the third person mode in Resident Evil Requiem I did my own research and I found out RE9 Players are more divided, with 60% using the default third person mode and 40% switching to first person mode.
Most players tend to stick with the “intended” defaults—third-person for Leon’s action segments and first-person for Grace’s horror-focused sections—though over a third of players still opt for the over-the-shoulder view during Grace’s chapters.
As for me in my first playthrough I went with first person mode all the way through on Xbox Series X and it was amazing I loved every moment of it I will begin my third person experience in my second playthrough most likely in June 2026.
