Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake developed by Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3

We now know the developers behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake thanks to a new Ask the Developers segment from Nintendo. The eagerly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch 2 was developed by Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3, which is the team behind the mainline 3D games. This likely means that the next mainline Zelda game entry is a long way off.

  1. Next big Zelda is for sure a long way off. But we should also wait to see Nintendo Forecast’s deep dive into the credits. He has been speculating that Zelda has likely started breaking into two core teams. If he is right, then it’s not like 100% of the Zelda devs were assigned to OoT.

  2. This tracks. They’ve been giving this game a huge focus and not just viewing it as a simple remake to fill the void of a new game release (think Links Awakening vs BotW). They’ve been treating this remake AS the next big Zelda release.

I know that’s disappointing to some people, but I think it was worth it. OoT is an iconic game, but it does have some rough edges to it. Rather than smooth out the edges, it made more sense to remake it while treating it with the honor and respect it deserved.

Only time will tell how it stacks against the original, but it looks like an absolutely amazing game, and it’s going to bring in a whole new audience that only knows Zelda from Wild Era of games.

  3. I’m 1000% okay with this meaning the next 3D Zelda is way off. I’m even okay with them prioritizing a Majora’s Mask Remake next before the next 3D Zelda, assuming theh don’t split the dev team since there’s less foundational work to lay. I’m sure a new Mario and Smash Bros. will tide me over in the years to come lol

  4. I’m betting they are going to start mixing remakes entries with new ones ( not a bad thing) they have a vast portfolio of really, really good games. maybe they are taking some notes from capcom and how they are handling RE series since 7.

Metroid could have some remakes rom SM and Fusion, Zelda could have Majoras and Twilight (we already have Wind waker)

  5. Usually ever Nintendo console starts off with a remake of a Zelda game before a new mainline one. The GBA, 3DS, Wii U, GameCube (Via the legend of Zelda collection), heck the Wii and switch technically had ports of Zelda games at launch. I don’t really see the problem with this remake if every other Nintendo console has had a Zelda remake.
