Sonic Team confirms new Sonic the Hedgehog game in development with “unprecedented gameplay”

Japanese site 4Gamer recently had the opportunity to interview Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka who confirmed to the publication that a new Sonic the Hedgehog game is in development that will feature “unprecedented gameplay.” Sadly Mr. Iizuka couldn’t go into specifics on the new game but he did say that “there’s still plenty of room for the series to evolve.” Here’s what was said via machine translation:

4Gamer: So, taking into account the history of the series, could you tell us your outlook on how Sonic might evolve in the future?

Iizuka: I can’t go into specifics about the new game currently under development, but I’m confident that there’s still plenty of room for the series to evolve. The introduction of Color Power in “Sonic Colors” significantly changed the way the series is played, and I believe there’s still more to come in the systemic evolution pioneered by “Sonic Frontier.” We’ll be creating unprecedented gameplay through various approaches, from characters and story to game systems, so please look forward to it.

  1. Just let Sonic die already

I swear Sonic Team does nothing but spout vague, meaningless crap to get the fanboys excited for another serving of slop.

It’s genuinely sad to watch at this point.

  2. Takashi Iizuka: Takashi clever, learns lots. Has learned new sonic game.

Some sonic fans: It’s it as useless as the other failed sonic games?

Takashi Iizuka: Yes…err, Takashi means no. Must sell lots of copies this time or shareholders feed me to monster…

    1. Wildly unnecessary racism in your criticism but I imagine without it you would need to actually articulate something besides implying someone is stupid through broken English

      1. Reply to maplebeesticky

If you think thats bad, wait till you see some of the trolls who hate Allister, Avery and Hop from pokemon games for not being waifus. You almost sound like a soccer mom who blames Al Qaeda on Harry Potter.

      2. @maplebeesticky

Klungo speak is not racism you flaming idiot. People like you are the reason why north American versions of fire emblem games get ruined with censorship.

      3. @maplebeesticky

That’s rich coming from an adult content creator. Falsely accusing a person of being racist just for making a reference to the 3rd Klungo boss fight from Banjo Tooie.

    1. Crisis of Infinite Gems: Starring Sonic and The Flash with his cosmic treadmill. Sega is not like other companies, they announce and the games comes soon. Coming soon: 2040.

Teaser trailer shows movie Sonic and game Sonic meeting for the first time. They see a universe with old design movie Sonic and say he is ugly. So funny. Teaser trailer has 1 billions views per hour. It will break YouTube.

  3. I didn’t like the whisps just like I didn’t like the Emerald abilities in Superstars. I hate forced Gimmicks. I want Sonic and traditional platforming. Shadow Generations almost perfected it. Sonic Frontiers action stages controlled bad.

  4. Sonic had more success in 3 movies than most games in the past decade, keep sonic a movie Franchise and quit wasting money on sega America who seen to love making awful sonic games.

  5. Maplebeesticky, your mistaken. That user is just making a poorly recognized reference to a Banjo Tooie boss fight (Klungo 3), not being a racist. Anyway if we got a sonic heroes port to current gen, it could better than sonic frontiers.

  6. Please pleaseee when you release the game actually have it be finished. If another sonic game comes out that is clearly half finished and full of glitches I’m going to scream
