Wii U Box Art Revealed?

Maximum Games recently announced that Jet Tailfin will be released on the Wii U. The company apparently leaked the Wii U retail games’ box art design on their website. It looks almost identical to the box art of Wii games – the only difference is the extra blue letter for Wii U. Nintendo hasn’t revealed the box art designs for Wii U games themselves, so perhaps Maximum Games is just showing which platforms the title will be released on.

    1. Yeah. Is it just me, or does the “U” logo look more squarish than it should? I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be more rounded.

    1. I remember hearing something about using black cases mature or core gamer games. I believe it was said in a shareholders meeting.

      1. In Japan, mature 3DS games have black cases instead of white cases (Monster Hunter Tri G, Resident Evil Mercenaries, RERevelations). Wii games as well (Pandora’s Tower).

  1. If this is the boxart, Nintendo is doing it so wrong. I thought they wanted to avoid the confusion that happened with the 3DS!

    1. Shovelware or not, every game has at least some dedicated fans somewhere and will help with hardware sales. Even if games suck, as long as they help expand the software library, there’s no downside except for harsh criticism from fanboys of other companies.

      1. Lolll perfect!
Never will I see anything but a cock dipped in water at the sight of the ‘Wii U’ from this moment on!
It is now officially ‘Wii Cock’ to me.
you did my watery cock justice, dear friend.

  2. I’m gonna take a guess and say this is fake. Look at the Wii U logo in the top right corner and then notice the lack of perspective compared to the actual box.

  3. If this is true, then Nintendo have screwed up. People are already confused whether or not wii U is a new console and this is gonna play with them even more. Same deal with the 3DS boxes

    1. Yeah, but 3DS boxes have enough variety for even my mother to know the difference (trust me; that’s saying something). If Nintendo is going to make a design like this, they should at least move “Wii U” to the left and make the box black.

  4. I don’t really believe it considering it’s just the Wii box with a U on it. lol Still, if it is legit then this is a big “what are they thinking” deal. WiiU is already too much like the Wii in name and look; we don’t need the boxes to be the same now.

  5. If so, this is going to be a mess. You’re going to have parents and grandparents buying the wrong things because you can’t tell them apart. I don’t mind it if they keep it white, but they’ve got to change it up. Maybe make it smaller? Like the size of a BluRay case? Maybe even make it, like, a clear white color? The logo at the top part?

But again, they really need to change the name. You’re going to have parents and grandparents going in and asking about “Wii games” when they’re really looking for Wii U games. They really need to make it very, very clear that this is a new system. This isn’t the Wii 2, or an upgrade. This is the sixth Nintendo home console, not the second Wii. By calling it Wii U, people aren’t going to know that. At least the casual gamer they love so much.

And another thing, they can stop with that shit right now. This fish racing game? No. Do not let people’s first impression of the Wii U be stuff like this. A few strong first party games and a few strong third party games is what we should be seeing at launch. Not stuff like this.

  6. Pingback: This is probably not the box-art for the Wii U

  7. Doubt this is real. Nintendo knows how to change up their box art designs. Just look at DS and 3DS case designs.

    1. I appreciate the artwork; the general design is not much of importance to me.

But to the casual gamers, if they make the boxart design too similar, they might get confused and accidentally buy a Wii U game for their Wii or a Wii game when actually wanting a Wii U game.

But not that I think about it, if somebody does accidentally buy a Wii U game, wouldn’t that be persuading them to buy the console next? Evil thinking, Nintendo… If this boxart is true, that is…

      1. So by your logic, casual gamers = dumb people? No. If someone is dumb enough to buy a game without reading the top where it has the “U”, or not walk over to the “Wii U” section of your game store instead of the “Wii” section, then that idiot deserves to screw up with his purchase, and I certainly hope that idiot ends up paying 500% for it and never has children because of his mentally handicapped thinking process. And believe me, I’ve seen more dumb “hardcore” gamers than I’ve ever seen dumb “casual” gamers.

  8. It looks fake. The ‘U’ part looks different, the shading looks ugly, and the ‘W’ in Wii looks a bit off. And I highly doubt that Nintendo would make Wii U boxart look almost identical to Wii boxart.
