Nintendo UK has told MCV that it plans to run a major television campaign for the upcoming Super Mario 3D World. Nintendo says the advertising will be aimed at kids, families and girls. The commercials will focus on the local four-player co-operative multiplayer mode, which is bound to be a hit. Nintendo will also support the title with plenty of print and social media activity.
“Mario is the perfect title for families this Christmas, not only is it a title that family members of all ages will enjoy, but it’s the first multiplayer 3D Mario platformer ever,” said Nintendo UK product manager Roger Langford.
“Pre-launch the focus will be on online and Facebook activity, aimed at Mario fans. We will also be launching a significant TV campaign targeted towards families and kids, highlighting the key features of the game and the Wii U hardware itself. Post-launch activity will centre around gifting via online, TV and PR.”

Big mighty words for systems that haven’t even come out yet. Considering also both Sony and MS have posted loses on systems since their inception. After the fans of each respective console buy the game, THEN we will see if they do anything. My money is against PS4 and Xone. Hardcore gamers are moving back to PC, and will be pushed back quicker with Steam boxes. Nintendo owns exclusive IPs and develops hardware to support their software… where the large majority of titles released on Sony and MS are third party with no real loyalty that will jump ship when console sales struggle. Guess we will just wait and see. This WILL be the last “console war”.
Both companies have also made little to no money for the entire life of their respective gaming divisions. MS board members are pushing to sell off xbox and focus on core business and Sony is selling off HQ buildings to cover mounting losses… FACTS… look it up. There is little to no $$ in it for them. MS and Sony have a MUCH LARGER chance at going 3rd party or exiting the gaming market completely. Try googling before posting your butt hurt fan boy crap on here.

They’re focusing on families this year then next year they’ll focus on the hardcore gamers.
All hardcore gamer really means is one who has a passion for gaming in general AS WELL AS a passion for specific types of games. This is why a die hard Mario fan who plays a variety of games, because the person just loves video games, is a hardcore gamer while someone who picks up each iteration of CoD, because all his or her friends play it at school is a casual gamer.
With that in mind, the majority of Nintendo’s games are actually hardcore. Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Kirby, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Star Fox, Metroid, F-Zero. I would even consider some Nintendo franchises as both casual and hardcore, like Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Mario Kart. The only REAL casual Nintendo games are Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Fit, Play, Brain Age, etc and maybe some other smaller downloadable titles. Aside from a couple few casual games, Nintendo is a pretty hardcore company. People really fail to realize this.

If they did say that though, I think saying “girls” specifically is demeaning to both girls AND boys. Saying Mario is specific to females is demeaning because it promotes the stereotype that girls like more casual games while boys like grosser, meaner “hardcore” games. It is demeaning to buys too though, because there are many, MANY males that like Mario, so to target girls specifically would promote Mario as a “girly thing” which in turn is demeaning to males who like to play Mario games.
It is never right to target a specific gender in matters like this. It always leads to trouble. Age group targeting is fine, because both sexes are equally represented.
