Speaking in the latest edition of EDGE magazine, Mario Kart 8 director Kosuke Yabuki says that the team pushed the Wii U to its limits while developing the beautiful racer. However, Yabuki told the publication that there’s still plenty of potential left in the hardware.
“Our aim was to create a game that used HD graphics and played at a smooth 60fps. We pushed Wii U’s capabilities to their limits to achieve this. [But] I think it still has a lot of potential left, and I suspect there are more ways to make use of its capabilities that we haven’t even imagined.”

I hope that’s not true considering you don’t want to hear that they’ve tapped into all console’s potential in the first 3 years of It’s life. But by now everyone should know what to expect power wise from the Wii U and MK8 looks great so i’m not mad. Just give us a steady stream of great first party titles and the machine will be more than worth the money.

Zelda could be 1080p 30 FPS (they’re usually never 60 FPS), and X will probably be 720p 60 FPS. They’re both going to look great either way. I just hope X’s dialogue is actually synced though >.>

If the rumors are true and this is the biggest Zelda yet, I doubt it’ll be 1080p AND 60 FPS. I don’t really know if the frames/sec. matter for Zelda games, though, mainly because I’ve never really seen the difference.

I agree. When I played the first wii u game which was ninja gaiden 3, I was actually blown away at the graphics but I said to my brother (he too was blown away), “Lets see what this baby can do”. The gameplay was fantastic, then we got Tekken tag 2 for the 360 and I played it. “Time to kill peoplez” I said, I played the game’s story first and after I beat it, I was like “Yaay, ONLINE TIME!” Then disappointment came, you needed a code to go online of the game for WHAT REASON is beyond me. I took it back that same day. Go figure…

No, not really, all I see is much better lighting and slightly noticeable better detail, nothing else, and I’m not blind, that is what I really see because lighting seems to make the screen pop, have that wow factor, but in the end, once you notice it, it’s just the lighting that makes it look better.

I’m looking for a power hungry PC… One that can destroy the 8th gen in terms of graphics… It’s gonna be costly, but definitely worth it. I stay at home alot, so it’d make more sense to get a desktop. Definitely PC and Wii U this gen for me.

That said im still partial to console gaming. I think I like the exclusives and all that. To me the console gaming spirit is more fun than the PC Master Race stuff. If you can really afford it the best route for a dedicated gamer is to own all platforms including a good PC and Xbox (which most people on this site hate lol).

I am no PC master. That’s why I’ve opted to just find one pre-built. But If I find out how to make it work, I’ll build online for cheap I guess.

Best thing to do is build the computer yourself, it really isn’t all that hard. It’s a bit like Lego… only with more expensive pieces.
There are plenty of people online that give tutorials on how to build the perfect PC. Also, I’d recommend you just go for a GTX 760, they are pretty powerful for far less.

There so much talk about which console has the best graphics or the best “next-gen” hardware, but for me none of that really matters. When I boil everything down, I reach the truth: Nintendo makes fun games. That’s all there really is. The gaming experiences provided by Nintendo over the years have given me more fun than other other consoles, and it remains the same with Wii U.

To everybody who keeps calling the Wii U “last generation”. Even if it was, WHO CARES? Last generation was pretty cool. So was the generation before that (and so on). Heck, even the NES and Super NES is still cool and fun. So what’s your point? It’s all about the games, and how fun they are. it looks good but not for example better than gran turismo for ps3. which obviously means wii u is more last gen in terms of graphics, what was expected.
Gran Turismo for the PS3 looks bad, if you are looking gamepley, stop watch CGI animation, which allows Sony is charging, it’s fake, look and compare gamelpey!

I had the honor of playing Mario Kart 8 at a private event this weekend and seeing it in person is so different than watching it on youtube. It is a gorgeous looking game. Yeah it looks beautiful streaming it at 30fps on the internet but seeing it run on the console in front of you really shows how capable the wii u is. So even hearing how there’s still a lot of potential left makes me excited for future releases.
Is it only me that looks at ‘realistic graphics’ and think they just make it far more obvious how far away from realism games are. The people and places just look a little plastic compared to real life. Better to take an art style and own it. Still think Super Mario Galaxy was one of the best looking games last gen despite lack of HD graphics.
Good programmers can achieve a lot! The demand for more processing power as a substitute for a bad and inefficient code is just shit…

Am I missing something here? Hasn’t it already been announced that the XBoxOne and PS4 were released with all their power available from day one so developers can do what they want with them? I read an article that was attached to some comments from past posts about how the WiiU still had a good amount of power locked away for future release just like most consoles have done in the past. “Pushed to the limits” is just the limits that are available to the developer at this point in time. When Zelda or HOPEFULLY a new Metroid is released a few years down the line, then the WiiU should be fully unlocked by that point and we will get true “pushed to the limits” development on the console. I’m not gonna go losing my mind over a comment like this when we already know that there’s much higher potential after the future updates years away
