Nintendo president Satoru Iwata elaborated on a few future details the company would take in last week’s investor’s briefing. The CEO explained how NFC figures would launch, along with new Wii U GamePad-focused titles to highlight the system’s unique hardware. With access to the translated version of the Q & A investor’s briefing, Iwata has addressed investors concerns on when Nintendo will expect to reveal their new next-generation hardware.
Nintendo’s president assured investors that the company is not at a “dead-end” in terms of ideas for their next hardware and that the team has a “clear idea” on which direction it will take. However, Iwata also mentioned that Nintendo will not launch their next hardware until consumers, who have already purchased such platforms, are entirely satisfied.
“Once we launch a new platform, we naturally start to prepare for the next one. As it takes several years to develop a single platform, if you ask us whether we are preparing for our next system, then the correct response will be that we are always developing new hardware.
“On the other hand, the most difficult question for us to answer in public in concrete terms is when we are going to launch our new hardware and what kind of hardware we are going to launch, and I am afraid that I cannot talk about this in more detail. However, I can certainly assure you that we are not at a dead-end of any kind in which we are out of ideas for developing new hardware.”
Iwata concluded: “I, of course, believe that launching new hardware will not produce good results unless we first make sure that those who have already purchased our platforms are satisfied. We will continue to work hard to ensure that consumers who already own our platforms are satisfied, and make sure that people will continue to see great value in our software, but I would like to say that we are preparing for our next hardware system, and in fact, we already have a clear idea to some extent about the direction our next hardware is going to take.”

Nice
All hail the Virtual Boy.
Nintendo is on good competition now when Sega is finally going to return on hardware business with a system that has 10gb RAM!!!. That Sonic demo looked good.
Sega won’t ever take a step into the console war again.
you dont know that i mean look SEGA kept sonic boom a serect for 3 years i mean yeah they wont make another one and nintendo might buy them but i think it would be cool to see another Sega Console.
The Wii U isn’t going anywhere. This new console will be released in five to six years.
4 years, but yes it is a few years out. Nintendo’s secret 🔐 weapon is that it comes out with a new system every 5 years. Which means that they well have a new powerful system right in the middle of the Xbox One and PS4 10 year life cycle.
And with those words, Iwata put the nail in the coffin for wii u.
Pleeasa’Undastaan
Ok 2019
no … 2016 definitely
reveal right before E3 2015
Abd Zelda U for Wii U fall 2015? No way!
“Here’s a game for our console, which we are replacing next year. Make sure to buy it!”…
Are you that dam stupid? count 5 years from now, and they stated already that they are not…NOT…abandoning ship, as a matter of fact, they are doing much better now since they are passing Microsoft’s xbox one…let that sink in for a bit…I can show you proof if you like too.
No way in hell will they do that I can gurantee the new system wont be out until 2017
They have already said that the moment their new console is released they’ll begin planning for the next one, so I’m not too surprised. I just hope that they won’t release this until 5 years have passed. I want my Wii U to be maxed out in terms of software.
Well put by Mr. Iwata. Stave off those impatient, greedy investors looking for force premature transitions without an understanding of brand, quality and loyalty.
I hope they go with the “Fusion” concept of combining both handheld/home console worlds as one, make the hardware equally, if not, more powerful than PS4 and play ALL Nintendo games throughout its chronicle history (Arcade/NES to 3DS/Wii U) either on the go or at home and also embrace some Virtual Reality (Virtual Boy 2.0 anyone?), 4K, 3D TV and proper Cloud services.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next Nintendo Console could run games from 1080p to 4k if they go for say an R9 290x
Fusion: yes! We need to be rewarded more for buying both systems!
You must be stupid to think Nintendo wouldn’t make a huge loss with that type of console
XD
No offense, but Nintendo can barely develops software for High Def TV’s. If they went 4K, they’d be like, “Hang on, we need to practice by giving you Skyward Sword remake first, we didn’t practice BEFORE launching our hardware. Sorry!”
:)
All I want is four simple things… 1: A normal controller like Pro Controller/PS3/X360. I like the Wiimote and GamePad, but I just want to play normally again. 2: Must be stronger or equal with graphics. I am not a graphics fanboy, but I’d like to see some realistic LoZ sword action in amazing HD. 3: Tons of third party support. It can be the go to place not only for Nintendo games, but games of all kind. And finally… 4: Just like you said, have every VC game. Possibly even remake a few like they did with WWHD.
You and I think exactly the same my friend. I’ve wanted what you’ve wanted for so long from Nintendo. Hopefully our wishes come true with this next console.
That’s great I hope that it will leave a good impression on us when they decide to announce it.
yay!
It will be Fusion Terminal 4k beast.
I want to see the fusion idea, that would be soo amazing!
However I don’t believe that its possible to play some games portably (The Wii)
But, if its possible to play all games somehow (home console), then I’m happy.
Who wants to make a bet? I’ll buy you your next console of you’re right. You buy me my next console if I’m right. Cool? Well my guess is that it’s going to be the next iteration of the virtual boy(all hail). I can’t wait. Look for the clues. that’s life.
Okay then, I bet that this next console will use all the latest GPU tech from AMD (Like the R9 290x) and will have a 6 Core PowerPC CPU. Also, the controller will be similar to the Wii U Pro Controller with some added features much like the Dual Shock 4. Now we wait… or pull a Scooby Doo and look for clues.
uuuuh, did I miss something here?
While they seem to have problems learning from their own mistakes, they sure know how to learn from SEGA’s mistakes.
This is really good.
My thoughts.
They’ll release a new console in 2018-2019.
Nintendo always want to sell an affordable console for everyone, so.. at that time, all “cpu/gpu cores” will be cheaper; and i think Nintendo will match ps4/xbox one; they’ll use an octo-core with 4 to 8 gigs of ram; a new gpu with more power; besides that; they’ll add an extra cpu that is compatible with the old wiiu architecture, it would be nice if they add Wii/WiiU support; but i don’t think they’ll do that; but at least WiiU retro, is a must. Bluray support is a must, too.
As for the gamepad/controller…that it’s really hard to think of. I mean they could go for a new Gamepad that fusion the idea behind portables; but at the same time, i don’t think they’ll going to kill their “portable” market, they know it needs to be a separate device. One console, one portable. So i guess they’ll began to do some “VR” thing, too. with a new gamepad/accesories. Maybe 2 to 4 gamepads, will be better.
As for games, this time around i think they will have better games that show the potential of the console. They can’t screw up this time..
What i would love to see is a new device with new tech, not only more power. Wii was really something that change they way we play videogames, nobody has done so well in that regard than Nintendo. So i want something more like a “NintendoOn” device, or something nobody invented yet. They need to be really creative. But for what i’ve read from Iwata-san, i don’t think they’ll go this “creative” route this time.
They’ll go for the “power+portable” route.
sorry for my english,
After Wii U’s Zelda, they need to focus on the next console. The next console NEEDS to release with one of Nintendo’s top-notch first-party games, and Zelda would be the perfect one. Imagine going three/four years without a console Zelda, then getting it 60 FPS in 1080p on a brand new console?
It would sell itself.
Finally! Iwata is finally listening to consumer concerns. I love my Wii U but I will not be satisfied with it until Nintendo puts more effort into it. We need a bigger virtual console library, more third party support, and more features for the community of Miiverse such as being able to message each other on our 3DS’s. I like that they have a clear directions of where they want to go this time around so here’s to hoping we get a great system around the time of Fall of 2017.
PAAH, YEAH they are…

Hopefully, maybe Nintendo?
Agreed 2017 sounds right
Nintendo is on good competition now when Sega is finally going to return on hardware business with a system that has 10gb RAM!!!. That Sonic demo looked good.
I’d prefer Nintendo to wait for Sony or MS announce their next console’s specs, so that Nintendo could have those specs and maybe get some third party support.
Why is everyone looking so far forward to a new console so early? I know the Wii U has been doing bad, but even Dreamcast lasted 6 years in japan before Sega really pulled the plug.
This is the important part nintendoomers should read:
Iwata: “I, of course, believe that launching new hardware will not produce good results unless we first make sure that those who have already purchased our platforms are satisfied. We will continue to work hard to ensure that consumers who already own our platforms are satisfied,”
Now could people shut-up about “they will drop support for teh WiiU” or “WiiU will be cancelled early like Dreamcast”. Iwata knows better than to cutoff WiiU and it’s owner like that.
Our empire will never again make a hardware that outdoes the competition because hardware is not the entire problem…
I do however expect them to make it a bit more powerful than the Wii and Wii U of their generation…
High Command makes things that works, not things only to please the corrupted fools…
Our empire will always make a hardware that is as powerful/effective and cheapest to make…
Making a console worth 450$ and above is not an appealing move for parents and real gamers alike…

With that said. The press and children out there already misunderstood this informaton as Iwata confirmed the end of Wii U.
Yeah…in the next 4 years.
Ha ha ha… True :D
Their next console will have something really amazing like Virtual Reality or something. Plus, I expect it to be really expensive and more powerful than the competition’s or at least on par with the competitions so ports are easy enough.
Let me just say that Nintendo will do something that nobody will expect.
Please, no! I don’t like this crazy idea of VR. I want to hook up my console on TV and play my games on the TV. VR technologies such as the Oculus Rift are quite a piece of inovation, but I see these things good only for the developers. The usual console player don’t want to waste his time with this type of gimmick.
I’m predicting that Nintendo will release there next hardware in 2018 and it will follow the 6 year pattern, and it will probably be released in the month of November cause of the holiday season, here’s the dates I bet it will be cause of the GCN, Wii, and Wii U pattern.
(Release Pattern)
6th Gen.(GCN) November 18, 2001
7th Gen. (Wii) November 18, 2006
8th Gen.(Wii U) November 18, 2012
9th Gen. (???) November 18, 19, or 20,
And the 9th Gen. Console of Nintendo will be announced in E3 2017 a year before 2018 follows other patterns from GameCube not sure about N64.
(E3 Console Announce Pattern)
(NES) Announced at the Winter & Summer, Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 1984 and again at Summer (CES) 1985. Point is it was still announced a year before just with the Name AVS.
And it released in 1985.
(SNES) Announced in 1990 released in 1991.
(N64) Announced in 1995 released in 1996.
(GCN) . Announced at Space World 2000 and released in 2001.
(Wii) Announced at E3 2005 and released in 2006.
(Wii U) Announced at E3 2011 and released in 2012.
(???) Predicting the 9th Gen. console to be Announced @ E3 2017 and it will be Released in 2018 it follows the pattern and from wat I researched Nintendo likes to follow patterns from wat I noticed.
So that’s my prediction I’m wat I think will play out with Nintendo’s 9th Gen. Console and 7th console.
Nintendo better start to make a unified OS for their platforms…
Like someone at Nintendo said before, do it like Apple does it.
I love both my wii u and my 3ds. :)
Hopefully, that direction involves squishing certain other console manufacturers.
they better abandon the wii brand and make an actual gaming console and no horseshit gimmicks this time.
I hope you are not referring to the game pad as a gimmick, because that really pisses me off since I use it CONSTANTLY.
That said, I will agree they need to get the fuck away from the “Wii” brand of consoles. If they keep using “Wii” their consoles are fucked.
gamepad, wiiremote, nunchuk. all that crap should be secondary, not primary controller. I doubt they’ll learn from this, but we’ll see.
It’s a gimmick, get over it you whiny Nintendite.
Xbox one has removed Kinect and dropped the price to 400. Nintendo is doomed .
not really because mario kart 8 comes out the 30th and that will boost the Wii U Sales plus who cares if they removed the kinect that console cant even play 1080P which is sad
Their next console and handheld should have similar tech so porting could be easier from console to handheld and vice versa. Also the handheld should allow off TV play from the console and have the ability to stream to the console. What I’m trying to say is that the two platforms should be unified but could still stand alone as a handheld/console set with their own set of exclusives to give incentive to own both.
Nintendo have the very difficult challenge of creating a piece of hardware that both appeals to core gamers but also their base. I don’t envy them on that one, it’s far easier for Sony and Microsoft who can just package PCs in a bit of plastic and please their base.
In a way, it’s almost as if he said “we’re waiting until Wii U owners are happy, then we’re going to steal their happiness and release a new console they have to buy all over again”.
Makes me wonder how long the video game industry would last if every company just stuck to their current consoles and never released another? I’m sure glad movies aren’t this way. Imagine having to buy a new DVD player every 5 years or so, because the DVD format changed again & again.
by removing kinect and dropping it by $100 Microsoft basically just said that they fucked up kinect is the worst add on ever its completely worthless no innovation no games to make use of what you can do with its just garbage unfun casual shit Shovelware xbox is finished people the Japanese win as always
2DS says hi

I believe they should go back to their roots and take influence on the PS3 controller. Simple, fun, common, easy for developers to program with and isn’t extra hassle, plus they could add gyroscope capabilities and different types of motion control that they wanted to bring to the gamepad. It’d seem less like a gimmick to the general public and more of an enhanced controller. It’d work too.
I think it would be cool if Nintendo could figure out how to make a truly Cloud-based gaming device. A DS like controller you could take anywhere and run the games off the console at home. Make it have an “app store” like Apple where you can download games to both devices.
