It looks like The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes might be getting paid downloadable content in the future. Although Nintendo has yet to reveal DLC plans for the recently-released game, currently unused dialogue suggests that The Great Tripini will eventually ask players to pay real money to unlock new areas in the Drablands, which can already be accessed and is where you can hunt down the evil witch that cast a curse upon Princess Styla. The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is available now for Nintendo 3DS.
The Legend Of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Might Be Getting Paid DLC

Lol that picture though.
Looks like the true sequel to the Wand of Gamelon.
I wonder what’s for dinner?
So glad I didn’t support this.
Yay for DLC that was planned well in advance and could’ve been included on the game to begin with! Ugh.
And the proof that it was planned in advance is, where?
It’s STUPID to assume that they cut it to sell later.
Oh, boy… Too much naiveness in only one sentence.
You didn’t answer his question. Hi pot, you’re black.
Headache, stop being another drama queen. The game just came out, of course the DLC was in the talks.
Coming from a troll who finds their every decision suspect and insidious, the word naive means ziltch.
Get back under the bridge.
You clearly don’t know the meaning of troll.
Wow, it’s people like you that I just don’t understand. You come to a Nintendo news site, only to complain about something that hasn’t even been confirmed yet, and jump to immature, unintelligent conclusions with absolutely no evidence. Ladies and Gentlemen, the internet.
every one asked nintendo to do dlc and support their games even after they are released.now we have dlc but its the type where you don’t get all the content from the start and have to pay for it.I hope we can make nintendo give us more content that expands what we have in the games.
Sorry, where is the evidence that this DLC is the type that was cut out so that we didn’t have it from the start?
THERE ISN’T.
Christ, you people are taking ANY EXCUSE YOU CAN GET to rag on Nintendo.
First you want Nintendo to do DLC, and now that they’re doing it, you’re saying they shouldn’t have done it and should have just put it in the game beforehand, even though chances are they hadn’t thought of the extra stuff before release.
It’s sad that everyone so quickly forgets how well Nintendo did DLC in games like Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8, if it gives them an opportunity to bash the latest effort with so little reasonable basis to the grief.-_-;;
Wow, do you have a power of attorney from Nintendo? Stop being a drama queen defending Nintendo’s bullsh*t.
YOU Guys wanted Nintendo to do DLC’s so Nintendo doesn’t be stuck in the 80`s
Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V comment.
Can’t you come up with something freshier or more intelligent?
And, for the sake of clarity, I didn’t want anything on that matter.
This is coming from the guy constantly causing drama.~
Wow, I cause drama. F*ck off, Headache, your imbecility does not have boundaries.
Quit whining, kid. He called you out on your drama because you DO cause it.
If you don’t like the taste of your own foot, then quit opening your fat mouth.XD
Your lack of sense is incredible.
Talk to a mirror and you’ll make more sense, kid.
You’re such an attention wh*re… Get lost!
Says the hypocritical drama queen.
Keep crying. Your tears are delicious.
I’ll stop being a “drama queen” when you stop being a hypocritical retard that can’t back up his own bullshit theories with any sort of logic, while defending the bullshit of others.
Generic insult detected. Try harder.
This coming from the guy who calls others a drama queen, then insists he’s not a troll by questioning if I know what the meaning of one is.
Troll harder. You’re not fooling anyone.
LOL! This is getting personal!
“First you want Nintendo to do DLC”
Nice generalization.
Besides, there’s dlc and there’s DLC. Week 1 paid DLC is unacceptable. Period.
Week 1 paid DLC is unacceptable if it’s stuff cut from the game.
If it’s not cut from the game, then there’s no reason to be complaining about it, because that’s just extra content to enjoy.
If you have content that belongs to a game that you can’t implement before release date, you don’t chop the game and sell what you couldn’t put in the game late. You delay the game and sell the whole package.
You mean to tell me that Aonuma and company were so incompetent that they couldn’t manage their time and resources to include everything they wanted for the release date? Not only that, but I’m expected to pay extra cash after buying the game already because of THEIR incompetence?
How can you seriously defend this stuff with a straight face? Week 1 paid DLC is ALWAYS stuff cut from the game.
That is BS; not having the stuff prepared for the first week doesn’t automatically mean that it was cut from the game. It means that they thought of it too late to include in the initial release and that it functions just like all other DLC does; as extra content.
Releasing it outside of their holiday release date for the sake of incorporating content that was LIKELY NEVER INTENDED FOR THE INITIAL RELEASE would be moronic, and they’d also be getting complaints from people merely for the act of delaying it.
“not having the stuff prepared for the first week doesn’t automatically mean that it was cut from the game”
How doesn’t it? This is not a kickstarter in which you can add arbitrary stretch goals as you go. The game is planned from the start, if they already have the idea for the DLC one week after launch it means that content was planned for the 1.0 version of the game but scrapped for whatever reason.
Furthermore, if the DLC is ready to launch shortly after the game, it means it was developed before release date. Since they have already announced that there will be DLC for the game, that means they have already thought about the concept. They didn’t came up with it yesterday, this is something that has been thought (maybe even developed) for a while now. I don’t think this is a hard concept to grasp, and I can’t understand why you can’t wrap your head about it.
There’s a difference between wanting to have the extra content and making plans in the game’s data to prepare for when said content is ready, and having said content prepared before the game is even due to release.
This is a case of the former, not the latter.
This is not stuff intended for the main game; it’s extra content that is still in the middle of being prepared.
I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand.
A case of incompetence and bad resource managment, then. It’d be alright if they discounted the price of what they couldn’t implement from the price of the game itself..
Just because DLC in Hyrule Warriors & Mario Kart 8 was good doesn’t excuse the DLC for Smash 4 where the bundles are practically meaningless as there are no savings involved in them. I love Nintendo, I enjoy DLC, but the recent DLC from them has been terrible.
but smash is really the only case that nintendo did not handle it well. mario golf, kart,fe,splatoon, hyrule they did a great job with
I’d add Splatoon next to Smash 4, to be honest. Although it was given away for free, people still inadvertently paid for it since the game when first released was a 60 dollar game with only 20 bucks worth of content on it. And those that bought the game after a considerable amount of DLC was released, they also ended up paying for the DLC as the game now had 60 bucks worth of content.
Now if you want to see free DLC truly done right, look at Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate & Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: two games already filled with 60 bucks worth of content with free DLC released over the months that probably could have made them an additional 60 bucks or more.
But since Splatoon is still getting free DLC even after the game is now worth 60 bucks, I tend to give Splatoon a pass these days.
mostly just wait a bit becuse nintendo hasnt talk dlc yet for the game. splatoon depends too 40 in the uk and jp noa just stupidly added more
That’s why I give Splatoon a pass because despite it’s questionable beginnings, it’s more than made up for it. But imagine if something had gone horribly wrong & they couldn’t have updated Splatoon. There would have been some, if not most, of the buyers being pretty pissed that they paid 60 bucks for just 20 bucks worth of content. Even if Nintendo had reimbursed them, the damage would have been done. :/ Thankfully, this never came to pass.
40 British Pounds are 60 Dollar, so you’re actually just proving his point.
40 our money
Some other cool figures about the game: it’s 30 euros in the rest of Europe, roughly 21 pounds or 33 dollars. It’s weird, since generally we’re the ones that get the inflated prices (not as much as Australia, but still).
Yea, that’s true! I bought Splatoon for 37€ at launch.
Was actually really surprised, considering the usual trend in prices here in Europe. Definitely felt good not having to pay so much for once, hah.
I can see why that content is probably free. Let’s check the list.
-Short story mode
-Only one local co-op mode
-Launched with 5 maps
-No voice chat
You see, if you have no internet and you buy Splatoon, you’re getting half of a game.
If Nintendo sold all that additional content as paid DLC, even EA would be laughing.
Fire Emblem also had over priced DLC.
i recall some were free when game launched. but some were
Oh jeez, that must’ve been awesome, I’m almost $30 in and have about half or a little more than half of all the DLC.
If you didn’t buy in a bundle, maybe. And a lot of the DLC was worth it- EXPonential Growth and Golden Gaffe made begin game a breeze.
Expensive DLC but I’ll be damn if I didn’t enjoy it lol and yeah true, stupid me decided to buy the DLC after passing the game though, so I didn’t benefit from that. -_-
Splatoon was every bit as bad as Smash 4 with its amiibo shenanigans and how little content there was at launch.
The only dlc I’ve seen Nintendo handle truly well is Mario Kart 8.
I remember that you and me had a conversation about DLC practices and I did tell you at the times that even if Nintendo seems to be a good job with DLC from you point of view (even then I did not agree with you) one day they will do like the rest and it will be to late cause they are now in the mindset that people will pay for DLC. Here we are 1 year + later and it seems I was right.
Again I just wanted to say that example like many others (not just Nintendo), make want me to stop supporting any company doing this.
My question to you now is: Do you still like DLC and the abuse of the type of business? Me I still don’t.
Compared to the microtransactions and $40 DLC in other games, I completely disagree.
||Do you all see now? This is how Nintendo ends, like every flawed creation out there, nothing but a void left……
Oh NC, you and your silly antics.
>>>Except that CPU imbecile isn’t me>>>
Lol I’m still almost certain that you guys are one in the same.
Sorry to tell you guys, but DLC is typically planned for games before release.
I know. You should be getting stuff like New Super Luigi U, The Mario Kart 8 DLC and the Hyrule Warriors missions, but Nintendo wants to be cheap bastards and have you pay slightly more for the seemingly worthwhile content there…
Hopefully you’re all smart enough to understand sarcasm, but judging from some of the comments above me, I don’t think so.
I skipped this game and have no regrets about doing so which is sad because I love Zelda. I’ll probly give it a rent sometime though at least
they need to take off paid next to dlc.
Seems Nintendo has the money grab..er…DLC business down now.
A meaningless DLC for a meaningless title. I’ll pass, thank you Nintendo.
And no one cared that day.~
You did care and replied my comment, Headache.
Sadly I won’t be getting this game… I have no friends ;_; … That have a 3DS and this game.
I like DLC but Nintendo’s recent forays into DLC have been questionable. Smash 4 being the biggest offender as the freaking bundles don’t even come with savings. Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, & Fire Emblem Awakening are the only games so far to have done DLC right.
Fire Emblem Awakening’s DLC is pay to win. If anything, it’s as much of an offender as Smash 4, if not more.
pay to win on an easy, non-competitive game
at the very least its DLC adds a decent amount of content for a reasonable price. also, in Hyrule Warriors’ defense, that DLC is almost entirely on Omega Force, which is a very normal thing for them to do if you look at all the other Musou/Warriors titles (only difference for the spinoffs/franchised games with said playstyle, they don’t go overboard with costume DLC and add actual content)
not like HW’s dlc was all that bad considering the amount of content we got, but that 3DS port is just pointless, especially since it’s not even a proper expansion like they usually get away with
“non-competitive game”
To you, maybe. Not for those who are into min-maxing.
Pay to win, yes, but they also had nice side stories involved so they were well worth the money I spent on them. Now if they were pay to win AND had shitty story, I’d agree. I’m perfectly okay with pay to win DLC as long as it comes as more than just an easy win and is moderately priced. Plus, the DLC did come in bundles which lowered the price of the DLC if I had bought it in singles, so that’s another point in their favor with that DLC. Oh & the pay to win DLC wasn’t exactly handing you the easy victories on a silver platter, either, as you still had to work for it. Like the one with the Risen that gave a shitload of experience points. You had to plan accordingly or otherwise they’d get away or wipe out the very unit you sent to kill it for the exp points.
All in all, the pay to win DLC of FE:A had more merits than flaws. Least to me, anyway.
Damn! Decent amount of content for a reasonable low price came with the DLC so the pay to win aspect wasn’t as bad as say pay to win DLC that just gives you the all powerful weaponry/armor/etc & doesn’t make you actually work for it by actually unlocking it after completing a side story thing.
Thanks, Astral Aqua! I could have shortened my original response to Marce considerably if I had just used the phrase “decent amount of content for a reasonable, low price.” >.<
I take it you’re refering to Aversa, Walhart and the like’s extra chapters, right? If I recall correctly, those were free (or at least I didn’t pay for them) and their stories were indeed good.
Now, the rest of the chapters are another story altogether. The crossover xenologue chapters felt like fanfiction to me, and I think blocking good skills behind DLC chapters was a dick move (especially when they are great traits like Limit Breaker)
I remember that particular chapter you mention, and I wouldn’t call it challenging at all. You just have to find the winning formula and repeat the chapter ad nauseam until you’ve maxed the stat you want.
You have a point with the bundles, though, but they still don’t clean the sour taste those questionable decisions left in my mouth.
“it’s as much of an offender as Smash 4”
I literally saw your credibility fly out the window.
You mean figuratively.
When Smash 4’s DLC characters dominate tournaments and the game becomes a pay-to-win shitfest, then you’ll be able to compare it to Fire Emblem.
Although Ryu has the highes skill ceiling and Roy’s knockback needs to be nerfed ASAP, so I guess they’re getting there.
No, I mean literally. It’s exaggerating to make a point. And you must be new to the smash series if you think the DLC characters will over take the others as people still love to main them (I main Villager.) What you’re saying makes no sense at all, whatsoever. As the saying goes “Get gud, m8.”
Then you don’t mean literally, because you’re not exaggerating, you’re saying the opposite of what you mean.
Semantics aside, you must be the new one if you think we ever had DLC characters in Smash, as you seem to imply. And I’m talking about competitive fighting, of course people are going to switch mains if a character proves to be better than the rest. Just take a look at Melee’s most played characters.
Seriously, is this your first mildly competitive game or what?
Yes, it is my first mildly competitive game when I have 100% all the smash games to date (sarcasm btw.)
And no, that’s not true as the “characters better than the rest” thing doesn’t apply here as it all depends on playing styles. Some people destroy as Roy, others as Mario, and others as Little Mac. There is no single best character and the DLC’s aren’t going to change that, just add more variety. Even with Roy (my melee main) back, I still main Villager.
Smash is nowhere as balanced as to allow any playstyle to be viable. People are going to gravitate towards the optimal choices (that is, overall better characters). This has been proven again and again both in Smash and in any other competitive game out there, so I’m not going to continue arguing this asinine point that has hardly anything to do with the original topic. You keep bringing your own personal and anecdotal experience to the table and try to pass it as if it’s a valid argument to the conversation, but it isn’t since you’re using suboptimal choices and gimping yourself which can only mean that either you’re an extremely out-there player (which I seriously doubt) or you don’t play to win. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t try to pass you ridiculous opinions about Smash’s metagame as true when you seem to know next to nothing about balancing and tier lists.
Then again, you played Roy in Melee, so what do you know.
The funny thing is, you could have the same argument for Fire Emblem balancing, only stronger since the game doesn’t even allow you to play at ‘competitive’ level (that is, minmaxing) UNLESS you buy the DLC (you need the skills locked behind the chapters for that), so it doesn’t even become a question of playstyle at that point. It’s either pay or lose.
You seem to think that just because Smash has more (and more expensive) DLC it means the DLC is more offensive, which can’t be further from the truth since Awakening’s DLC is so ridiculously easily to develop that even at 2$/£/€ is still much more overpriced than Smash’s DLC (with the obvious exception of Mii costumes). Seriously, there are romhacks made by people with more content. Creating more map, placing some units in them and adding some dialogue is hardly a feat with the right tools.
“Then again, you played Roy in Melee, so what do you know.”
Wow, mature.
“You seem to think that just because Smash has more (and more expensive) DLC it means the DLC is more offensive” Umm, when did I ever say that?
“Smash is nowhere as balanced as to allow any playstyle to be viable. People are going to gravitate towards the optimal choices (that is, overall better characters). This has been proven again and again both in Smash and in any other competitive game out there, so I’m not going to continue arguing this asinine point that has hardly anything to do with the original topic. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t try to pass you ridiculous opinions about Smash’s metagame as true when you seem to know next to nothing about balancing and tier lists.”
Knew it, you’re of those players. You only follow the tier lists. It it’s low tier, it’s a bad character. I would so love to take you on in Smash 4 right now as Little Mac.~
“Wow, mature.”
I’m just saying. You have no right to tell anyone to get good when you play the scrubbiest character in the roster with the exceptions of Young Link and Pichu.
“Umm, when did I ever say that? ”
You implied it in your first post when you argued against my post, and since you haven’t given a single agument worth a damn, I’m just assuming at this point.
“It it’s low tier, it’s a bad character”
Yes, that’s the general norm. Tier lists only reflect usage, not real balancing, but as the metagame develops the characters with most potential become the most used characters, since people play to win. In a scenario in which two people with the same skill level play Brawl, one with Meta Knight and another with Ganondorf (to put an extreme example so it becomes more obvious), the Ganondorf player is going to lose EVERY SINGLE TIME. That’s the reality of Smash balancing, even if it has got a lot better these days.
That last sentece proves you don’t understand anything we’re talking about here. Even if you managed to beat me as Little Mac, it wouldn’t prove that Little Mac is a better character than my mains (Falcon and Donkey Kong, which are both ranked higher than LM IIRC), it’d only mean that your skill level would be higher enough to compensate the shortcomings of the character. This is not a rock paper scissor game in which every option is perfectly balanced and winning depends only on your skill at the game.
“play the scrubbiest character in the roster with the exceptions of Young Link and Pichu.”
Wow, another mature comment. I have a feeling you lose very easily and blame it on this.~
“You implied it in your first post when you argued against my post, and since you haven’t given a single agument worth a damn, I’m just assuming at this point.”
No, I didn’t imply it. You just assumed it, as you just stated.
“That last sentece proves you don’t understand anything we’re talking about here. Even if you managed to beat me as Little Mac, it wouldn’t prove that Little Mac is a better character than my mains (Falcon and Donkey Kong, which are both ranked higher than LM IIRC), it’d only mean that your skill level would be higher enough to compensate the shortcomings of the character.”
You really just proved my point with this as it’s the skill level that shows how good the character is, not the tiers you follow. If I can beat your mains with a low tier character, it just shows that tiers mean nothing.
Kid, just knock of that name calling and mudslinging. You lost, you proved yourself wrong, get over it.~
I suggest watching this video.~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR6sxFBm1P8
And expensive DLC? Really? XD Yeah, I guess five bucks for dlc for TWO games instead of one is way too much.~
When you stack all of the DLC prices up, it is expensive. If you were someone buying your own stuff & paying your own bills, you’d realize stuff piles up & what normally wouldn’t be expensive when bought by itself BECOMES expensive.
You can get them in discounted packages, or just buy them separately if you want. It’s all very small ad easily manageable prices. And the DLC isn’t required. If someone has a character or stage you don’t, you can still play games together.
mist games have coding that allows dlc to be updated to the game. right now nothing has been said. just wait till they somthing
If anything turned me off from this game, it’s this artwork.
Even the CD-i games had better artwork and story- I’m now expecting this king to ask what’s for dinner at some point in the game.
Green Link: “Gee, sure is boring around here.”
King: “Mah boi, this peace is what all true warriors strive for!”
Except in context of TFH, it would probably be changed to “this piece of clothing is what ALL true WARriors strive FOR.”
Troll Logic: “I want new data available for games, but I don’t want DLC!”
I am still the only one here thinking that DLC should never exist in the first place and amaze that millions of idiots (sorry guy I tell you the way it is) encouraging that business practice by paying for those DLCs. I never bought a DLC or even ask for one. I compare games in 2010 and games in 2015 like assassin’s creed, and I can tell you those games in 2010 are much worth your money than actual 2012/2015 games.
Personally I would hack any DLC (giving the opportunity) and still have a clear conscience about it. If DLC is allow to exist then the gaming industry will be finished in 10 years time because studio/developers/publishers will abuse even more (if it’s possible).
If DLC was an after thought or not planned in advance how come I rarely see (I did not say it does exist) games re-release 2 years later for the same price. Let’s take Assassin’s creed 3 where there are tons or DLCs. The game came out in 2012 and at this day I never ever saw a re-release copy with all the DLCs (could apply for any game like one peice warrior 2, any Naruto games, the new saint seiya, mario kart 8 and so on….)
Look at the smash Ballot. It takes nearly a year to program a single character, and Nintendo is seeing who the fans want in the final smash games. They are adding SIX new ones, which will take quite a while to add, and are determined by the fans. How could those already be in the game?
simple in the game you put some placeholder and when the time comes you do a ballot which does not take the public opinion (allegedly) then you release the DLC. Of courses those additional characters where planned from the beginning.
That’s…literally what they did here. And how were the characters planned if the public is deciding them?
not the character has per say but the addition of characters was planned
Yes, but they didn’t know who to add, so they are leaving that up to the fans.
furthermore why not re-releasing Smash bro with the DLC?
Because that would be completely pointless as people would have to buy the game again in order to get the new content.
I haven’t bought the game and thank god I am not the only one. So why not re-releasing the game (often see when the game is release for other platform) to get my money and satisfy customers who may not be early adopter. I never say don’t release the DLC for those who already bought the game as it would be stupid not to do so.
