The Game Boy had a stellar collection of games and you’re probably curious which games sold the most on the handheld? Well, VGChartz has obtained that data and has produced a list detailing the games that sold the most. It should be noted that the Game Boy is the third best-selling gaming platform in history and the second best-selling handheld. It has sold a staggering 118.69 million units since it went on sale in 1989.
- Pokemon Red / Pokemon Blue – 31.37 Million
- Tetris – 30.26 Million
- Pokemon Gold / Pokemon Silver – 23.10 Million
- Super Mario Land – 18.14 Million
- Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition – 14.64 Million
- Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins – 11.18 Million
- Pokemon Crystal – 6.39 Million
- Dr. Mario – 5.34 Million
- Pokemon Pinball – 5.31 Million
- Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land – 5.19 Million

Pokemon was BIG
Nothing new to talk about, so here’s the sales of a handheld almost 30 years old.
lol
All hail Blue version! Still play my original copy now and then. Excellent era of video gaming.
All of the main Pokémon games are on that list.
No surprise there since Pokémon practically doubled the Game Boy’s lifespan.
Every game is either pokemon or Mario with the lone exception of Tetris.
And that’s probably because tetris was bundled with the GB, at least here in the states and EU.
Yup. Most of it is Pokémon and Mario.
There’s a LOT of Game Boy games I wouldn’t mind seeing remade for modern consoles. Such as Pokémon Yellow, Zelda Link’s Awakening, and the Super Mario Land games. Never played the original Super Mario Land or Link’s Awakening.
There’s many Game Boy Advance games I’d like to see remade on modern consoles as well (not just ports). Preferably on the Wii U (since I’m not as much of a handheld fan).
Like that, once you’re at the grocery store and understand you’ve forgotten your coupons, the parking-lot is
really as much as you’ve togo for savings.
