Nintendo of America has confirmed to online gaming publication Kotaku that the English version of Fire Emblem Fates won’t include the suggestive petting mini game. The mini game, which drew criticism from westerners playing the Japanese import version, allowed players to use the Nintendo 3DS touch screen to stroke characters. Those who were stroked mainly responded with suggestive dialogue. This will not feature in the western version.
“Yes, that is the case. You might have heard somewhat misinterpreted or exaggerated information about the Japanese original game, but even in the Japanese original version, we have not included any features which are considered inappropriate in Japan.”
“I asked Nintendo for more information about specific changes—especially in regard to Soleil and other romances that take potentially localization-unfriendly turns—but Nintendo didn’t want to spoil specifics. They did, however, once again offer that making changes in the name of localization is not unusual, and that it’s happened with many of their games in the past.”

Put it back in NoA
Yah! … Nintendo has trust issues…
It’s not like we will do something like this…
http://i68.tinypic.com/2ckpzt.jpg
Whoa! What the hell is that?!
>>>It’s obvious isn’t it…>>>
Pokemon Amie. It’s what the petting mini-game in Fire Emblem Fates is based off of.
That’s what she said. Ohhh
I don’t even care anymore.
>>>How about creating a new character or item instead of pointless things like this?>>>
Or maybe a bonus map where one can find those same lines of dialogue when you have those characters on the field? It could even be free DLC so it doesn’t appear by default and has less chance of soiling your audience’s virgin eyes.
It raises support ranks. So from a tactical standpoint, it’s not useless.
>>>Too bad they cannot come up with a better use for this feature than rubbing humans>>>
Ok, so you’re taking out a chunk of the game. I don’t mind, it was a bit weird. What are you replacing it with I wonder?
Nothing. Less content same price. Cause its Nintendo.
What the actually was the purpose of that minigame? My friends and I always laughed about Fates having a “pokemon amie, but with people”, but never knew what it did.
Raised support levels but out side of that nothing, very tedious as well
Regardless, time has come to Nintendo make (i) all systems region-free; and (ii) games with native multi-language support.
Sorry, I know I’ve said this several times.
Also, I’m fed up with all the SJW bullsh*t — I’m generally speaking here.
The next Nintendo console can’t come soon enough. I hope they have a great plan for it. A great lineup of games, a great online system. No region lock. A decent controller and good third party support. All that stuff. Otherwise, I’m done with Nintendo.
NX will have every game censored. Bowser can’t say Rawr cause it’s offensive. Link can’t go HYAAA cause that’s a swear in Hylian.
On top of that, Mario will now collect tin cans because Power Stars might remind people of pentagrams, there will be no aliens to kill in Metroid because being able to could be considered xenophobic, and King Dedede won’t be fat anymore because it’s insensitive.
Not to mention the Koopa Troopas will be changed to look like something other than turtles. We don’t want to continue to upset the animal activists within the SJW community, now do we?
To support free sexuality, Samus will permanently be zero suit.
Kirby will no longer be bottomless because he supports child obesity.
You now have to set Pokemon free after battle.
Shulk will now be voiceless because he gives British people a bad name.
shulk voiceless that’s bullshit ! it’s better than that weeb crap i hear all the time i dont want t hear ching, ching, ching, chong, ching im paying for english games with ENGLISH audio !
Japanese aren’t even the ones that say that. Those are Asians. Don’t be racist. Lol.
there’s something i forgot to mentionHGJ I am rascist ( a white supremastcist)
plus they all look and sound the damn same!
…look and sound the same…yeah sure. Different ethnicities and languages from different language families look the same, sound the same….of course….that’s the dumbest thing i’ve read today
Thank g od. ..
what
?
Going to watch how everybody decides to waste their time fighting over something that is really pointless and also very weird.
I think everybody against this stuff has already said their piece on other articles. I know I have. It’s not localization, I can tell you that. Localization is changing languages, not changing content… I don’t know…..I still care, I’m just tired of argueing about it…
Actually, localization includes changing the content to better suit the taste of the audience. The problem is, Fire Emblem is a niche franchise (or was, I suppose). This kind of series doesn’t need changes like these because the fanbase knows what to expect. I can’t say I support the waifu aspect of more recent Fire Emblem titles, but there’s definitely a supporting demographic that likes its inclusion. It’s what saved the franchise from being canned, after all. This is only going to bite the game in the ass, in my opinion.
Weird? Just cause it’s from a different country doesn’t make it bad. How about we all get along and learn and accept others have different cultures instead of being a idiot and bashing others way of life.
So rubbing fictional 2D characters is Japan’s culture? lmao
Good. That shit was just plain weird and not fitting for a FE game anyway.
Yeah thank god for censorship, disgusting japs
Disgusting are yankee and their hypocrital moral.
The biggest fanbitch of them all has spoken. Tsk tsk. You must be one of those retarded SJWs I keep hearing about. Enjoy being no better than religious extremists like the Taliban, Al Quaeda, ISIS/ISIL/whatever the hell those fucktards want to call themselves, etc. You may not kill people but like those scum, you think everyone should bow down to your corrupted version of your belief system. I pity you, close minded slave. Free yourself from the Nintendo shackles while you still can or be forever their little bitch.
Whoa, dude. Take it down a notch.
Looks like someone forgot to take their medicine.
“Fanbitch”? Nah, I use this thing called logic and intelligence. I’m just one of the smart “gamers” out there who wants a quality experience. Meanwhile, you’ll keep bitching like a small child who didn’t get the sprinkles on their ice cream. Nintendo makes great games, and I know FE Fates will be worth every penny. Hell, this was an insanely pointless feature to begin with. All you do is gain affinity, which you already do just by playing the game normally, like in FE Awakening. I’m not disappointed by the removal of this in the slightest. I also have no problem with Japanese culture, but this type of weird nonsense is not what Fire Emblem is. But, I’m sure you wouldn’t know. I’ve played DOA and have no problem with things of that nature, but that’s different. THIS garbage is what makes great series go downhill. No one asked for this, and it’s so far from being what FE is, and doesn’t belong.
But, you’re just a blind hater. You couldn’t possibly understand. You’re too busy being upset and angry about everything instead of enjoying the great things being offered. You’re a slave to your own damn mind, and that’s a greater tragedy than anything I can imagine.
“I’ve played DOA and have no problem with things of that nature, but that’s different.”
That is stupid. You clearly do have a problem and you’re trying so hard to deny it. You can’t seriously tell me Dead or Alive and Senran Kagura’s amount of crazy fanservice is ok to you and not the “petting game” mode in this. “I use this thing called logic and intelligence”. Well, you obviously don’t. When you said that it was good that this was removed shows that. Nintendo removed it in the first place because they know about sensitive people like you that whine about these kind of things and would have a raging fit like a little kid. I don’t care if all it is is a petting game. Nintendo needs to stop with this and just leave the content that’s already there!
This poor Nintendite (fanbitch) doesn’t realize how much of a slave to Nintendo he really is. Free yourself, you poor thing! Your mentality & damage control is leading you down a path of being a slave to corporations. And logic? I didn’t realize retards like you had any sense of logic. *pats the little Nintendo pet’s head* You are a good dog for Nintendo: stupid & blindly loyal even as they beat you with a bat. There is nothing more I can do to save you from Nintendo’s Evil Overlords at NoA. Only you have the key to your salvation & freedom! Free yourself from your false Almighty God Nintendo before it is too late!
That is all! You may go now, peon, to either free yourself from Nintendo’s enslavement or continue being their bitch. Good day to you.
Filthy japanese people keep putting gross shit in their games. Hey japan guess what? Unless a woman is real we don’t want any of that funny business, and even then there still shouldn’t be anything suggestive, videogames aren’t a platform for this type of god awful paedophile bating smut. Thank christ that NOA has some sense of decency and censors this, we should just nuke japan a third time and get rid of this kind of stuff for good.
I was about to call you out for being immensely unintelligent, but then I realized that you are just a lowly troll, and decided against it.
Yeah I’m a troll because I don’t think disgusting shit like face petting should be in a game, okay.
“Thank christ that NOA has some sense of decency and censors this, we should just nuke japan a third time and get rid of this kind of stuff for good.”
Because you did NOOOOOOOOOOOTHING else wrong in this statement.
You don’t have to agree with it, I think japan needs to be like us and only put things in games we approve of.
First of all, Japan is their own country. They don’t have to only appeal to Americans.
Secondly, that doesn’t make nuking Japan okay.
That is your opinion, I disagree. And yes they do, we are the biggest market and soon japanese will censor their games from the getgo to appeal to US/europe. Censorship for everyone.
But the US isn’t the only market in the world. There are more than just US and Japan. You’re forgetting the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD.
Plus, that STILL doesn’t make it okay to nuke them.
In your opinion, not mine. And US/Europe is nintendo’s biggest market, so as censorship becomes even more common place they will eventually cut content from the get-go to appease the rest of the market and save money.
Okay you’re wrong there, Europe is horrible when it comes to Nintendo products. Japan is the only place where the Wii U is the best selling console. Japan is easily the biggest place for Nintendo. If Japan was an afterthought why do they get games a whole year earlier than others?
Dude. Not worth it.
Got criticised from westerners playing the Japanese version? Please stop playing video games. Just stop fucking playing them.
And yet he says nothing about South Park: Stick of Truth, Outlast, Huniepop…
You are a moron. Almost every character is above 18 years old.
Hm. And here I thought Nazis hated video games yet here you are. Must be hard being one of the many scum of the human race.
>>>Indeed, as if the human species isn’t disgusting enough>>>
You two should kiss.
American is the true crap country and for real, Jap is years ahead.
And you need a doctor since you make a fuss over 2d polygons, get a life and fresh air.
Now im not buying it.
because of this??
Yes. But that’s not the only thing being changed in this game, now is it? Even if it was the only thing being changed, he has a right to not buy it either way. It’s his money so if he feels he’s not getting his money’s worth, he doesn’t have to spend it.
Not buying either, nobody can decide what i can or not see, expecially in a virtual world with virtual characters that don’t resemble reality and a true human being in the first place.
I find stupid to censor a innoque scene like this, and i fight with my wallet.
They can do whatever they want, because this is the first and last rpg I buy on any nintendo system! From this point onward, if it’s not Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, or Zelda, I’m not buying it on a nintendo console! I gave up on this company a long time ago, and it’s about time everyone else does the same!
Looks like you’ll miss a lot there, buddy. By which I mean basically everything.
Enjoy Federation Force(not to slam the game, it’ll probably be good).
Probably for the best. it had no purpose in a fire emblem game to begin with.
Says you. Fire Emblem nearly died off so they needed to shake it up. Be a bit across the line.
adding a stupid feature like that isn’t shaking things up. that’s taking a franchise downhill.
You guys really aren’t missing much. My friend Imported the game and it gets really old really fast. I would rather have something else that would raise my support levels . Plus this is really more of Japanese culture thing really. They have tons of games based on the same idea but go more deep into it. Its really something that american players would have very little interest in.
If anything, im the least worried about them cutting this petting stuff out of every other content NOA has cut from their game… But it’s still cutting…. I cringe everytime I see an article like this… Nintendo is the only developer who does this… No really, they are the only ones in the entire world who will cut entire portions of the original game to appease…. somebody… I’m not even sure who they are trying to appease anymore.. The parents don’t care. the fans don’t care, the media doesn’t care….. who knows…
I disagree. Alot of wee boo guys would like it. I want it there just cause the devs made it there so it should be there.
Next they’ll change the skin colours and gender identifications of characters, along with making a couple female characters obese because it all fits the western gamers better, clearly.
Well to my knowledge there is obese female in the game
Oh the irony.
Aww D:
Oh wait this from Kotaku well better wait till people get the game, I’ve never trusted them
OH WELL FRIENDS, LOOKS LIKE WE’RE GOING TO HAVE TO ENJOY THE FIRE EMBLEM PART OF THE FIRE EMBLEM GAME.
At least we hope. NOA is still localizing the game. ;)
They still have to add all the dank memes in like such doge and my body is reggie :)
Guys looked into this more the place where skinship happens is still in the game IGN has footage of it http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=59349
thats your room it haves to be there anyway
A shame they are removing it.
Baby emblem
Super Smash Bros. 5
Not going to pay for this.
you dont want to pay the same for less ?
Between the three split routes, the script changes and now this, I don’t want to pay period.
Exactly. NoA is on a censoring spree and it needs to fucking stop. Who cares if it was odd (I don’t) and really didn’t contribute much, it’s still a whole section of programming that’s been cut out.
Agreed. It’s either a version with justified changes or no version for me, at least concerning this franchise.
Should have let it die after the Radiant games. Savage Advance Wars, it never had any kind of remotely censurable content.
Now that, I kind of disagree with because Awakening is probably my favorite 3DS game. However, yes, another Advance Wars game would be an interesting thing to see. I have the original on Wii U VC (but got stuck on Drake or whatever the tsunami guy’s name is) and it’s not bad.
Just a quick question, had you ever played any other Fire Emblem game before Awakening?
I very briefly played the one with Lyn years before, but that one didn’t grab me like Awakening did.
Well, then I’d give the previous ones a chance if I were you. The GBA ones are beautifully simple, and Sacred Stones was the easiest one until Awakening arrived.
I loved Awakening & felt it was a great improvement. Perma-death was more of a nuisance to me than it was a challenge. I HATE having to restart an entire chapter because I fucked up midway in the battle. Unless it’s Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword or Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, I sadly can’t go back to previous entries. Unfortunately, I find it slightly hard to get back into Blazing Sword. :/ Shame, really, since I still haven’t 100% that game.
I agree with the series needing a no-death mode, there’s nothing wrong in catering to more people if it doesn’t affect the quality of the game.
Blazing Sword is actually harder than Sacred Stones, so you might want to check that one out instead. Stay away from Sword of Seals, though.
I miss Ninian & Lyndis, so I definitely need to get back into Blazing Sword. Maybe the game it’s a prequel to, Binding Blade/Sword of Seals, will one day get a well deserved remake. If NoA doesn’t destroy Fire Emblem with a bunch of censoring first…
The split routes are all different stories. It’s like Pokémon but with more then minor changes. We literally are getting 3 different fire emblem games if you count the DLC.
Nope. You’re getting the same plot butchered and bloated so you think you’re buying three games. Routes are nothing new to Fire Emblem, and it’s not like these are meaty games to begin with. It would have been much better to up their own standards and include the two main paths in the same game, but I guess that’s not as profitable.
I saw the routes they are all different (characters in your squad, mission objectives, difficulty, and plot), compared to past FE games with different routes (The plot it’s basically the same in those games) this one its pretty different (Granted I have only seen small portions of the plot but saw the maps and enemies, so maybe I could wrong), BTW I have to ask there IS an edition you can buy with all the routes included right?
Now about the cut…meh, not gonna lose sleep over it, it’s a shame they did it (and they should stop doing it) but I guess I can see the reason? not sure
And Heroes of Light and Shadow had more characters (77) in one single route, more than twice what you get in each one of the ‘full games’. There is no excuse for such lackluster content for that price.
There was a limited/collector’s edition with the two main routes included in the cart (+ a download code for the third), but I think you’ll find it difficult to find at this point.
I preordered the limited edition, but it’s still the same price as if you bought the routes separately (as long as the other main route is digital).
God knows how much this will change the gameplay. D:
It literally does, though. The gameplay itself has taken a noticeable hit since Blazing Sword (with the exception of Heroes of Light and Shadow), so it’s not like it’s a big loss.
I’m just not going to ask what went through their heads when they thought up that idea.
“Criticised by Westerners”? No, criticised by people who are trying to get easy clicks or follows by generating a scandal. Moral panics loosely disguised as crusades for justice. This is what people mean when they say games journalism no longer has our backs. If you generally think a version of Pokémon amie but with people is something that needs some good old Western ‘purification’ then, I suggest you take a step back and actually try to make some changes in the world where they really matter.
Pretty much. SJW are nothing but attention wh*res who suffer from asymmetric perception syndrome: For them, there’s a problem with Dead or Alive or Senram Kagura, but it’s okay to blow brains out in CoD, or run over people in GTA.
Who thought that Pokemon Amie but with humans was a good idea in the first place?
I’m fine with it. I’m not offended by shit. I believe a developer can make his or her game however they want there is no line you can’t cross there are no rules it’s a fucking game for crying out loud it’s not real.
>>>True but with all the unlimited creativity one can make in a game, many choose to do pathetic things that always have either something sexual or female degradation that adds absolutely nothing to a game other than to appease likeminded male perverts>>>
>>>Sex, religion and politics should be banned from gaming altogether>>>
I’m ok with this, stop putting creepy weird shit in the game and focus on an amazing story and funny stuff but not weird shit like this, hell, put funny pr fun mini games, but not this creepy shit!
Japan has a different culture. You want Fire Emblem which is a Japanese game to be made less Japanese and more western???? Really now. Idiot humans like you are killing the industry.
In my opinion, the “feature” was just really weird and has no place in a strategy game. With that said, having it replaced with something else would of been nice. But it really makes no difference to me since I stopped playing this series a long time ago. It’s going down a very strange route, unfortunately.
For fucks sake Nintendo of America. Are you trying to get someone to snap and come assassinate every employee you have in charge of the shit? Seriously quit taking shit out. Treat people equal. Not a North Americans are hyper sensitive little cunts.
>>>But you are?>>>
I’m not sensitive at all. They can do whatever the fuck the want in a game. No subject is crossing the line for me. It’s all fake it’s a game.
““I asked Nintendo for more information about specific changes—especially in regard to Soleil and other romances that take potentially localization-unfriendly turns—but Nintendo didn’t want to spoil specifics….” In other words, Nintendo of America doesn’t want you to know how much of the game they really changed til you’ve already paid them their money. By the time you find out the game has been gutted completely from it’s Japanese original content, it’s too late. You’ve given them what they really want: your money. If you get pissed afterwards, oh well. Nintendo has some of your balls in a vice grip. You poor Nintendites. Enjoy being slaves to your Nintendo Overlords, peons!
>>>Although the NOA base is probably beyond salvation at this point with its current Command, it’s amusing seeing you all being so oblivious to the worse atrocities the Sonyans and Xbots do all the time>>>
>>>But as long as their games are good then it doesn’t matter if they completely control your lives in the near future yes?>>>
Do you mean Sony’s PlayStation Plus? No. That was the best thing they ever could have done. Now if Nintendo would just make a similar set up, they could give us better online capabilities. Then there is the extra stuff for paying for PlayStation Plus: exclusive deals, free games, certain amount of percentages removed from a game’s overall price, & more that I’m unaware of at the moment. Sorry but Sony is way better than Nintendo this generation. Sad, really, since Nintendo use to be the be all, end all of video games. Now they have forsaken the Holy Seal of Quality & only care about money & innovating things for their own sake while forsaking the hardcore fanbase that includes people like me & you.
I’m not sure how to feel about this. I was completely against Nintendo’s last change: the removal of Soleil’s support sequence. There was nothing wrong with it. The issue was completely misunderstood and people blew it out of proportion.
In this case though, I understand Nintendo’s decision to remove the minigame. This is not censorship. It’s localisation. This minigame is not the kind of thing we are used to seeing in the West and we probably would find it unusual. It makes sense for Nintendo to tailor games to fit the culture they are released to.
HOWEVER, this is a JRPG. It makes sense that it should reflect the culture OF JAPAN. When released to outside audiences, localization should be kept to a MINIMUM. Otherwise, there’s no reason to differentiate between JRPGs and RPGs. Also, this is not the same as the previous change. The change with Soleil only changed the story. This game changes the actually gameplay.
I don’t completely oppose the removal of this minigame, but if it’s going to be absent from the western release, Nintendo has to replace it with another minigame that serves the same purpose. Perhaps a minigame that’s more suited to western audiences.
This wouldn’t be such a bad change if they actually replace it with something with a similar purpose. That, I agree. But I disagree with the “This is not censorship. It’s localisation.” Localisation is just a fancy word to trick people into thinking it’s not censorship when it really is in a nutshell. It’s simply censorship done in the name of appeasing the different culture. Sadly, most don’t care anymore about this kind of stuff because of it being a different culture. It’s just a very vocal minority of SJW whiny Nintendites, aka fanbitches. If they won’t free themselves from their shackles, they must be eradicated instead with the rest of the trash.
Censorship is the removal of anything that is considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc. NOA’s change to Soleil’s support sequence was censorship. They removed it because a vocal minority said they found it offensive.
Localisation is adjusting something to make it better suited to a specific region. This petting minigame is not something that is found in the West. It is being removed to resemble the other games that are found in the West.
You missed the point. The point is changes in the name of localization is done so people won’t get offended by anything the different culture might not see as wrong but the culture it’s being exported to does see as wrong. Thus someone in that different location will ultimately get offended by it if they have a closed mind when they see it. So it is just an alternate word for censorship. If anything, localization is a fancy word for pre-emptive censorship. Back in the day, they could easily get away with calling it localization because back then we didn’t have the internet so well used as it is today. But now that the general population has wised up, everyone is finally seeing localization for the censorship it truly is.
I did not miss the point and they’re not the same thing. Localisation is not done so that people will not be offended. Localisation is done so that games are more suited for specific regions. When a game is localized, it is tailored to a specific region. This is done with the intention of making the game more familiar and more enjoyable to the local audience. The game is expected to be more successful in said region as a result.
As an example, consider a game that is created and released in Japan. Now say that game has an alternate samurai outfit for your character. When that game is released in America, the developers might decide to switch the alternate samurai outfit for a cowboy outfit, since cowboys are more familiar in America. THAT is localisation, NOT CENSORSHIP.
In THIS case, petting minigames are UNFAMILIAR and UNUSUAL to western audiences. They were removed as part of the game’s localization. To make up for this, Nintendo should replace the minigame with something more familiar to western audiences.
I was going to use the removal of the bust slider in XCX & the replacement of lingerie outfits in Fatal Frame 5 with Nintendo character outfits to prove that localization is the same as censorship in some cases. But that’s not the case with those. The removal of the bust slider in XCX was censorship because there are a couple of games made by American companies that have a boob slider that is remained untouched in their games (The Sims.) As for the change in Fatal Frame 5, that was censorship because girls end up in lingerie or their undies on a regular basis in most horror movies & even in some horror games that also use fanservice. Some even end up naked altogether. NoA simply called them changes in the name of localization to trick anyone stupid enough to buy that bullshit. That thing with Soleil is also censorship even though they want to claim it was done in the name of localization because there are a few American shows that used similar situations as a means to help people get over an issue they have. Like Raj & his inability to talk to women unless drunk in Big Bang Theory. Not to mention the use of medicine to help people with depression, bipolar, ADHD, etc. So I admit defeat, Lord Ridley. YOUR knowledge is undeniable. (Funny that. With my new name & character, you are now the only person with the name Ridley. lol)
Oh my. I just realized I bought that “localization” bullshit hook, line, & sinker! Ugh! I can’t seem to stop falling for one or another lie from Nintendo’s mouth this gen!
I completely agree with every example you gave there. Each one of those cases was censorship, and NOA did call them ‘localization’ as an excuse. Either they don’t see a difference, or they think that we can’t.
By the way, what was your name before? I remember seeing another person with ridley in their name, but I don’t remember what it was. So many people have changed names recently, it’s hard to keep track. Lol.
You might remember the Avatar of Nicholas Cage in the middle of his very first Ghost Rider transformation. If that’s not good enough of a reminder, I was Jaded Ridley X3. The X3 in my new name should have made it slightly obvious I use to be that Ridley. But he’s dead now. He was too emotional when dealing with trolls & fanboys like Brandon Headache & alexsmith113. I, on the other hand, realize there is no point in arguing/debating with these close minded Nintendites. If they can’t wake up & free themselves from Nintendo’s shackles after reading my first or second comment, there is nothing else I can do to save them. Only they have the key to their salvation.
I thought that was you just by the length of your name, but your language was a bit… harsher? So I thought it might be someone else. To be honest, your name was so long that I never actually bothered to read the whole thing.
Harsher, you say? Success. This new persona is definitely a step up from the weak Ridley X3. I’m definitely going to enjoy this even more now. Onward to a better future… for me!
Lol.
This is you, Xeno?
Wow, had me fooled.
>>>They are all trying to become me>>>
>>>My power is soon even greater than the Empire’s itself>>>
I’m not trying to become you. I’m becoming a more durable me. I’m simply absorbing a few of your traits to empower my own. Do not compare me to you, Lord Quadraxis, for you are just a robot & still have more shackles binding you to Nintendo than I do. But thankfully, you are not a Nintendite (fanbitch) because you do not want to follow Nintendo but lead it out of their corrupted darkness. You want to save it just as much as I do. Our methods are just different.
>>>I might be cybernetic but I’m not near as primitive as Earth based robots that can’t control themselves conciously>>>
Yep. I use to be Jaded Ridley X3 til I killed him off. Of course, there is still some remnants left of him that I must force out. Just a matter of time.
What remnants? Not the parts that make him a good conversationalist, I hope- I find our back-and-forths to be quite insightful.
Fear not as those have been absorbed into my new being. I’m still gonna be roughly me, though, when it comes to people like you, Sylux, shadowvegeta, Hollow, Stranga, Quadraxis to a degree, etc because you guys don’t have your heads up Nintendo’s ass.
>>>If they didn’t remove the “Breast” feature, I’m sure none of you would even think about demanding a “Penis” slider because male humans are off the table regardless right?>>>
Why would we need a penis slider? Unless it’s a porn game where the penis is required to be seen, that’s just a very ridiculous thing to add to a video game rated below AO (Adults Only.) Silly Lord Quadraxis.
>>>My point exactly, a breast slider is just as useless in a game>>>
Not in a character creator mode it isn’t.
>>>Then a penis slider should be included then as that is just as important as breasts acording to you humans>>>
“Localisation is not done so that people will not be offended.”
History disagrees with you, mate. For example, the localization team of No More Heroes tried to pass the censorship as localization. It happens all the time. Other than that, it’s not one or the other, a change can be both localization and censorship at the same time (it’s only logical if you think about it). I agree with the premise that this looks more like a case of localization that outright moral censorship, but for the people expecting this, it’s censorship on every level.
There are plenty of times when companies censor material and call it localization. (Lucifer gave some good examples above)
But there is a difference between the two and not all cases of localization are censorship. NOA further muddles the issue by constantly using localization as an excuse to cut “offensive” content.
After reading the link that TravisBlitz provided below, this doesn’t seem to be a simple case of localisation. It looks like the decision is a combination of both that and censorship.
I think it’s gradable depending on how much moral implications dictate if the content gets cut or not. In this case, I could see how the minigame feeling ‘creepy’ would justify it being cut in the mind of the localization team. In my opinion, it’s both too. I don’t know if the fact that it wasn’t ‘offensive’ makes the issue more or less important.
Well according to Meriam-Webster censorship is the removal of things that are considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc. So that’s what I use to judge whether something is censorship or localization.
In Kotaku’s original interview with NOA, they said “…but even in the Japanese original version, we have not included any features which are considered inappropriate in Japan.”
So that suggests that the changes in the west were also considered inappropriate for that region. Now inappropriate doesn’t necessarily mean offensive, so it’s kind of hard to say either way. I think there’s at least a bit of both in their decision, but at this point it looks like their main reasoning was more in line with simple localisation.
Yeah, inappropriate, offensive… You know what I meant, I was using them interchangeably.
Perhaps I misunderstood what you said. I’ve been discussing this for so long now that I’m losing track of everything that’s been said. Lol
To be honest, I noticed.
Oh, another obvious example that just came to mind: Pokémon and casinos. You won’t argue that casinos are not unfamiliar or unusual to western audiences, so I suppose you consider that censorship, right?
Pokemon and casinos? I’m not sure what you mean. Did they cut something from the recent Pokemon games? I know generations 1 and 2 both had the casino/gambling feature. I’ve fell out of touch eith the series though.
I believe the gen 3 games were the last ones to have them. Though, it wasn’t in the Japanese version of the games either. They didn’t include it in the game at all.
Well in that case, I don’t think it would really be censorship, since the developers decided not to have the feature at all.
If the feature existed in the Japanese version and was cut from the Western version, then yes, I would consider it censorship.
Gen 4 had them too (Japanese version, obviously). They didn’t include them in the remakes, you might be thinking of those.
They’ve been cutting it up until it was removed altogether in gen 5, if I have my facts straight.
So the Japanese gens 3 & 4 did have casinos, but Western 3 & 4 didn’t?
Correct.
Well then I would have to consider them censored.
“I don’t completely oppose the removal of this minigame”
You will when you try to beat Conquest on the hardest difficulty settings without it.
I doubt it. There are still plenty of methods for building relationships in the game; not that I don’t want another minigame to replace this one. Nintendo is making a big mistake if they don’t plan on replacing it.
Besides, I like a good challenge. Weren’t a lot of people on this site complaining about Twilight Princess being too easy a few days ago?
There’s a huge difference between making a game easy & making a time consuming activity less time consuming. This feature is the latter, not the former.
True, the two aren’t the same. I was actually waiting for someone to point that out. Lol. I was just trying to say that it doesn’t seem feasable for people (at least most of them on this site) to complain that the game’s too hard because of this.
And you’re right about this mini game making a task less tedious. But like I said, there are still other ways left to accomplish the same task. It’s just a shame that there is one less way.
From what I’ve seen, not in Nohr. There are not many maps that allow you to grind affinities without compromising strategy.
“Weren’t a lot of people on this site complaining about Twilight Princess being too easy a few days ago?”
Twilight Princess is retardedly easy, FE’s Lunatic+ is retardedly hard. There’s a middle ground.
FUCK! I guess the US can’t handle this amount of weeb! I’m pissed off! Give me the waifu materials!!!
Also, to those who approve of this, YOU ARE GAY
I don’t fucking approve how you using the word GAY to fucking assault someone. Does gay people have to be classified in sub-class lower those who are straight? That’s such like saying if you approve of this then your a N**ger. Your type of people make me fucking sick to my damn stomach.
Yeah I was out of line there, sorry for using “gay” as an insult
>>>Something the human male known as “Stranga” never learn despite being told several times>>>
I this is one if the reasons why we can’t fucking advance as a race of a whole. Dumb bitches who are still stuck in the fucking past shunning others because some fake as book told them to. If a God was real. Why would it make a supposedly “flawed” human with those type of feelings to fucking being with? Christianity logic and religion logic in general is so fucking inadequate.
>>>Like the great human Stephen Hawking said, they are afraid of death and darkness>>>
>>>Darkness is the true path to evolution, light is a blinding annoyance that must be purged>>>
Free will is a bitch. It’s either that and naturally evolve on our own into better beings or be enslaved by God as He removes our free will & ability to think for ourselves. So which would you prefer: freedom or enslavement?
Now I don’t claim to be an expert, but I’m pretty sure it was God that gave us free will to begin with. That’s why Adam and Eve were able to disobey Him. They were allowed to make their own choices. But I would think that you would remember that Lucifer. Is your mind slipping after all these years?
That He did. He wants companions, not mindless slaves. Free will was needed. Sadly with free will came problems. But that’s why we evolve so we can better ourselves. But while some, if not most, evolve, some either don’t evolve or de-evolve. It is those people that will become enslaved by The Beast when the end finally comes. But enough about that. This just isn’t the place to have that kind of debate.
Oh & I’m not supposed to be THE Lucifer. I won’t dare go THAT far with this character. Of course, if you read every single comment I’ve made under this character, you can tell I’m far from being like that one.
You’re absolutely right. This isn’t the place to have such a debate and I actually really hate debating online. It’s just that I’m very strongly against the spread of misinformation. So when I see comments like that, they kind of set me off.
I knew you weren’t trying to be THAT Lucifer (or rather I should say I hoped you weren’t trying to be) It certainly didn’t appear that way from your other comments. Hehe, if I ever came across THE Lucifer, I don’t think I’d try to contest with him alone. I’m almost certain I’d lose. Lol.
In fact, we’d both run the opposite way if we met him by ourselves. O.O
1) The New Testament teaches people to be accepting of others, not to shun them.
2) ALL human beings are flawed, not just specific ones. That’s called human nature.
[[[It’s one thing to be flawed, and another to be plain ignorant and evil]]]
You’re right. Those are two different things. I’m not quite sure what that has to do with the conversation at hand though.
I was just saying that Fake seemed to be implying that Christisns only see people with homosexual attractions as flawed when the fact is they see every human being as flawed.
It sucks that Christianity, like Islam, can be corrupted by the wrong people so they can use it to push their own, evil, world domination agenda. But religion is like guns or spoons or forks or cell phones: in the wrong hands, they can be used for evil. No idea or object is exempt from being misused as they don’t have any sentience of their own.
Good point.
You SURE you wanna stick with that?
Pingback: Fire Emblem Fates Petting Mini-game Removed for the West - PlayerEssence
I think they took it out to keep he rating under M. But pulling out a whole feature to the game to keep the rating!? I would’ve just pulled the trigger and made it M rated.
I’d be fine with Fire emblem AND Metroid being turned into M rated games. In fact, since Metroid is based on the rated R Alien movie franchise, this video game franchise should have became the ESRB’s version of rated R a long time ago.
Why though? When I compare Metroid to Halo, the latter really is no more violent than the former yet is M. Just my observation.
Metroid must be more like the Alien franchise it was originally based on. After the Federation Force announcement, Metroid must be cleansed of that bullshit. If that requires boob & butt cleavage shots, more cussing, more gore & blood, so be it! Sadly, it won’t happen as long as they cling to the T rating or go even further than that by trying to make it E for Everyone. Yuck. We must purify Metroid of the chibi filth & kiddy bullshit!
Metroid is definately in dire need of reorganization after Federation Force, but let’s not go too far and add sex, and blood and gore just to make it M. Those things are shallow and don’t make a game better. They need to improve the stories to add more mature and in-depth issues and situations. Nintendo can make the Metroid games more mature without getting off the T rating.
I have to say though, I would like to hear Samus drop the F bomb.
Nudity & sex aren’t mutually exclusive, though. After all, you don’t have to get completely naked to have sex & you don’t always get naked just for sex as you do need to take off your clothes to take a shower or bath. Some people are so quick to put nudity in the same sentence as porn that they don’t realize there is such thing as tasteful nudity. It’s not as shallow or juvenile as humanity pretends it is. That’s why some taboos that shouldn’t even exist in the first place end up getting created. As for blood & gore, there are ways to do gore without it being too over the top. Lord of the Rings & the Hobbit come to mind since you see mutilations in those & they are rated PG-13 if not PG. It’s only juvenile when it’s done over the top or for no reason other than fanservice.
Very true. I don’t put sex and nudity in the same category. I was just rying to say that those things shouldn’t be put into games simply for the sake of making them M.
I agree but I’d rather have that than what we are getting this year for Metroid. The franchise needs something to purify it, or at least balance out, the kiddy crap that Federation Force is being made to be.
I might have to agree with you on that. I’ll wait until Federation Force is out and I’ve had a chance to play it though; assuming Nintendo doesn’t sweep it under the rug like Devil’s Third.
At some point they need to take everything they’ve censored from their games and put them together into one ultimate character petting, lingerie ghost hunting, boob slider adventure. I wants it.
NoA needs to be put on a VERY tight leash- all this censorship in the name of localization has to end NOW. Many of us don’t mind this minigame and are displeased with it being cut; worse, it is not being replaced with anything, so essentially we are getting a lesser game. Now if this is something you don’t agree with, and if you don’t have to use it to progress, then just don’t fucking use it! Simple as that. When I see or learn about something in a game I don’t like, I just avoid using it or doing it, I don’t complain about its inclusion.
Again, if it’s optional and you don’t like it, just. Don’t. Use it. Plain and simple.
>>>Considering all the religious psychopaths in that territory demanding censorship and death to everything they hate, it’s no surprise these things happen regardless of what the NOA base do or not>>>
>>>Some make comparissons to the Electrons or Ubisians, the difference is that those 2 do not cater to “Everyone” like the Empire does and since the Empire is known widely as a “family” centered essence, obviously they will have harder times not censoring some things the medieval outdate brains over there can’t stand, like nudity and foul language>>>
>>>But of course I don’t like neither nudity nor foul language myself because I’m a higher lifeform not bound by conservative laws nor primitive nature>>>
Nintendo, the Crumbling Empire, must destroy themselves then rebuild themselves into a company for all, not just families. If Disney can survive being family friendly without forsaking people that want more adult themes when they are 100% based in America, so can Nintendo. Like I have done, Nintendo must kill themselves so they can be reborn anew!
>>>Or just give NOA to me, much easier>>>
NoA probably would be better off under the control of someone that doesn’t actually live in the United States but isn’t completely blind to what the West wants.
http://nintendonews.com/news/3ds/fire-emblem-fates-dialogue-stripping-touching/
I’m just gonna leave that there to shine some light on the subject…
I’m not going to lie, I double-taked at seeing the buffed guy in a speedo, but I am not offended and would even try this out to see what it’s all about. If I don’t like it, I won’t use it. I wish other people would do the same instead of complaining about it being in the game.
Ok. After reading this, it’s starting to look like this isn’t just a case of localisation. NOA seems to be censoring material that they think will be seen as offensive in the west; not that people won’t be offended. I have to say, some of those features, made my eyes widen; but it does seem to be censorship nonetheless.
Here we go again with the “Swapnote” excuse. X( Saying we’re being “suggestive” and yet, what’s going on in Japan again? Perversion..perversion everywhere. Hypocrites. X(
If you don’t agree with censosrship, in any form, and you want to defend your rights to play games in their original form and freedom od speech, don’t buy these edited and watered games to please some Us nonfactors.
Fight with your wallet, don’t support nintendo policy and threatment to localized games.
Precisely.
At first I was not going to buy until all 3 story branches were on one card, now I won’t buy unless the original script is there and they put the FE-amie back in or AT LEAST replace it with something. It’s wrong to give us the same game with less content.
Seriously more content removed! What else? This is only the beginning of my money going down the drain I guess. At least replace it as I don’t want to get less content that what I originally thought I was paying for.

That headliner from Kotaku was a HOAX! https://mobile.twitter.com/SDC_Batz/status/692499937028874241?s=09
Whoa. Is this for real?
We’ve been lied to before by NoA so they can sell stuff to us this gen. So I’ll believe it when the game is released & people that bought it revealed the feature is still in. Of course, this could be Devil’s Third all over again when they got a huge backlash for not localizing it only to come out later & claim the one reporting on it was a liar & they were publishing it. *shrug*
Whatever the case may be, damage already done & it’s irreversible. A preorder or a day 1 purchase is no longer in the cards for me.
>>>If this is true and not another attempt to gain clicks, Kotakians must be annihilated at once>>>
After reading the majority of the comments I have to say this has been the most entertaining group of comments I have ever seen between youtube, twitter and tumblr.
If you’re angry at localisation supports, name translations and removal of non-story/non-gameplay affecting features, please go look at yourself in the mirror and re-evaluate your thoughts. Yes I’ll find censorship annoying but if they have a good reason for doing so, then consider their reasons before mouthing off on them.
Awakening had a few changes when it was localized as well, Henry’s supports and personality were changed GREATLY from the Japanese version of him(he was so much darker and depressing than what you’re used to). Awakening also changed most of the original names, just like what’s happening in Fates, so honestly why the need to be upset of changes that were inevitable? If you’re alright with the original content, good for you. But not everyone feels the same and not everyone is completely accepting of certain themes and features. You guys have yourselves to blame for growing attached to names, supports and features when all you could have done was be patient. Games are better enjoyed unspoiled and blind. (My experience with Awakening was wonderful because I went in entirely blind, just like I’m doing for Fates)
Now enough of the neutral thinking. Seriously some of you are considering not buying the game over a feature that does not effect the main plot of the game? Did some of you really just say “I’m angry because I can’t touch my waifu’s face so I’m not buying the game”? Because I’ve seen so much of these comments already and all I can do is laugh. If this is your first FE game or your second after Awakening, please research how Fire Emblem games were in the past, no need to play them just look at how important supports were for the gameplay and you tell me that you don’t feel rather silly for this train of thought.
Now the comments that have pinched a nerve in my system are those who are saying “I’m canceling/reselling my pre-order because they took away skinshipping or I hate the translation” especially the special edition. Why? Because yes I understand you can do whatever the hell you want with it, it’s yours. But there are people who just want to play the goddamn game to enjoy the story and a lot of faithful fans missed out on their special editions or unfortunately had them stripped away unwillingly by Gamestop’s incompetence. It’s downright insulting to read a comment like that, knowing that the unfortunate would have appreciate it more than these jerks who care nothing but cosmetics and freebies of a game they truly don’t care about.
Also this a Kotaku article, they’re notorious for click-bait articles and very brief information with nothing to back their statements, no evidence. Wait until someone has the actual final product of the english version of the game to confirm if the feature was removed or not. Thank you.
…Why would you even make that comparison? When you customize your character, let’s say you can change everything including height, weight, etc. Except the breasts. Every single female had exactly the same chest. That’s not how it is in the real world. Do you know how dumb that would look? You don’t get to see the size of a penis when you are casually walking down the street. (And if up do, please move from that whacked up neighborhood) So that comparison doesn’t make sense.
Crap… Replied to the wrong comment. This was meant for Nintendo Commander. I’m not gonna post this again, so if you can see this, reply here.
[[[Considering most of you also want bikinis and other barely can be called clothing, the same treatment should be given to the male characters by having boxers/speedos only and of course then it would be obvious]]]
[[[And such clothing exists in Xenoblade Chronicles X anyway so it’s not irrelevant for the male characters to have a penis slider]]]
[[[Don’t try to convince me that the majority who complain are females because it is not and the only reason many of you want these things is because you want to control half-naked big breast women and not because of the feature itself]]]
[[[And it is not irrelevant becaue this is only a game wich in essence is ironic because whether it is breast or penis slider has any relevance to a game whatsoever, you can’t have one without the other since you can see male “equipment” sizes in your so called beaches and other half-naked activities even if they are not as common as the female ones]]]
[[[In the end I don’t even care about these small features, but either you do it completely for both genders or you don’t]]]
If I do recall, it was in the game in the first place. That’s the only reason I say it should be there. I never said Nintendo should add it in every one of their other games.
