Nintendo Q3 FY 2015 Earnings Release: Impressive Software Sales

As promised, Nintendo has provided us with details of its third quarter final year 2015 results. Without throwing everything into one long post we have found out which titles have sold over one million units and the results are surprising. Nintendo’s very own brand new IP Splatoon has sold over 4 million units which is a resounding success. That’s not the only game that has done particularly well as the Animal Crossing spin-off Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer has sold nearly 3 million units.

  • Mario Kart 8: 7.24 million
  • Splatoon: 4.06 million
  • Super Mario Maker 3.34m
  • Animal Crossing HHD 2.93m
  • Yoshi’s Woolly World: 1.31m
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes 1.08m

  2. Good to see Splatoon being successful, it should encourage new IPs from Nintendo in the future! Surprised by Woolly World, didn’t think it’d sell much.

Anyone know how X did? Also interested in Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) sales!

    1. I think X has sold like 700k copies. I might be wrong but I believe I read that from a couple of sources. Hyrule Warriors has done will selling just over 1 million copies. I’m mostly suprised at MK8. 7.25 million copies? holy hell, that’s MORE than a 50% attach rate. That’s just insane for a console that has only sold 12.5 million units…

      1. In regards to MK8, I think these are numbers for the quarter, hence why Smash nor other earlier titles aren’t on here as I believe they have over a million lifetime sales.

That makes it even more impressive and a much higher attach rate, though likely coming from bundle sales partially.

      2. Well, X is close to a million then, which is good. Thanks for the info.

And yeah, MK8 sales is mind-blowing, 7/12 Wii U owners bought it!

  3. If you make quality, they will buy.

I’m shocked to not see the Mario titles on there, I guess buyers share my sentiments that it’s quite repetitive. But Mariokart is a staple.

    1. I think Mario Kart 8 is only there to show that it’s the best-selling Wii U game, or that it did particularly well last quarter. The rest of the games on the list are 2015 releases.

3D World, New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, Super Smash Bros and Nintendo Land have all sold a lot of copies but are not on this list.

      Plus, Mario Maker is there.

        1. Yes, it always has been. I was just saying that the other Mario games have sold well, but weren’t on the list for the reasons I stated.

New Super Mario Bros U has sold 5.08 million, and 3D World has sold 4.63 million. Smash Bros Wii U has sold 4.61 million copies. They are all top, top sellers.

Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros 2 have both sold over 10 million on the 3DS too, and Smash Bros has sold 7.92 million copies.

But yes, Mario kart 8 is the best-selling Wii U game and Mario Kart 7 is the second best-selling game on the 3DS.
