Whilst many gamers are clamouring to play the latest instalment of the Resident Evil franchise on Wii, Capcom say that isn’t to be.
“I think, while Resident Evil 4 is a great game, its appeal was limited somewhat to maniac players,”
“With RE5, I wanted to bring the series to a larger audience. I think its important to do the same for the next RE.”
“With the difference between hardware specs for the Wii and the PS3, porting might be hard. We currently have no plans.”
– Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi
I played Resident Evil 5 with a friend on the Playststion 3 and I must say that there was not one senerio in which the game greatly differed from the fourth version of the game. There where times in the game where I felt the fourth version did more than the Fifth. I think it is a crock to even say that placing RE 5 on the PS3 and Xbox360 was to expand the audience, while placing it on the Wii would just play to a ninch crowd. RE 5 was good but no where nears an improvement over 4 and could easily translateto the Wii mechanics with no major problems at all. Patching it for the PS3 motion controller proves that. There would be just a slight shift in graphic but it would not look ugly by any means.
I agree with your post. It doesn’t make any sense how putting it on the Wii would only appeal to a small demographic. When in reality the Wii has sold more than any other system, and the players really want more hardcore games. I believe RE5 would sell a lot on the Wii.
Why are you serious Capcom?! I understand porting is hard and may have to make you revamp it again for the wii but comeon, theirs soo many gamers with a Wii and have been waiting for a RE5 to come to the Wii. Now about the statement, it just seems you guys won’t make it. I’m pretty dissapointed that Capcom is using RE5 with the Motion control for the PS3 but can’t take time to make it to the Wii?
@Chris12163
Using PS3 motion control is just patching a little part of the code. A work of a couple of weeks.
Making RE5 for the Wii is redesigning EVERYTHING. A work of about many months.
I doubt this. Maybe a few months but not more than 6. As I implied before in a previous post, outside of high res graphics and a co-op mode the games core engine is nothing more than the same engine they used for RE 4. If it where a better engine say unreal 3 then ok. I just think Capcom doesn’t want to do it and it would be just as good if they said that than give dumb reasons around why the won’t do it. Saying they can’t reach an expanded crowd on a console that out pase it’s competition combine in sales 3:1 is just lame.

“currently have no plans”
Capcom just doesn’t want to admit they backed the wrong horses.
If they were going to port it to Wii they might as well port it for PS2 also. Thats why they don’t need to go out of there way to remake it. Its takes time and a whole lot of money. Its better to just go out and buy it on PS3 when the motion controller version comes out. Instead of making a dumbed down version that people will laugh at when they make comparisons. Just get the original superior version so you can enjoy it the way it was suppose to be made.
