Nintendo: Sony Claims To Cater To A Wider Audience

Jack Tretton, the outspoken President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, has boldly claimed the company takes more risks than Nintendo and caters to a wider audience than both of its competitors combined.

“In an industry that’s certainly had its challenges this year, we like to say that the environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry. We have a brand that can play on a worldwide basis, young and old, male and female, where our competition tends to be relegated to either select regions or to select consumer audiences.

We don’t have unlimited money, we cater to a more mass market audience. I think we’re willing to take a little bit more risk than a competitor like Nintendo is and ultimately we deliver to the masses on a worldwide basis and that’s what we’ve done for the last 15 years.”

  1. I don’t believe that one bit. Nintendo has actually brought our family together and even had few laughs and good times but Sony only brang few people I know interested, like we play games 1 on 1 but not many multiplayers. But I still love Nintendo and Sony…I just wish Sony didn’t say that.

  2. ROFL. That is bull crap, Neither Sony or Microsoft will beat Nintendo at catering to a large audience. As long as Sony has blue ray then their not taking risks with 3rd party developers…

  3. More risks? Like what… Blu-ray? I think not. Nintendo taken so many risk. A console souly built on motion controls, a handheld console with it’s biggest feature being a touchpad. What was Sony’s risk? Releasing their console later so that they can make sure it was perfect… look where that got them, slow sales. BAM!

  4. Is that the same president who believes that the ps3 outsells the Wii?

Yep, he really has no idea what he is talking about.

  5. I don’t think they should have mentioned nintendos name in this, but i beleive what they mean in more risk and all and the larger group of people is the wii has very few M rated games, The Wii is more just a family console, more for the kids not as much as for the adults.

  6. Sony wishes it had the product imagination that Nintendo has. The Wii and DS Lite both outsell Sony’s PS3 and PSP by a large scale. Maybe Tretton’s job is on the line and this is a last ditch desperate effort to save it.
