Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS To Launch With New Animal Crossing?

Online gaming publication Destructoid is claiming that Nintendo have been showcasing Animal Crossing on the 3DS in a bid to win over potential development studios into producing games for the 3D enabled handheld.

According to our sources, Nintendo has been quietly wooing developers and publishers with a handheld 3D demo of its popular franchise, Animal Crossing. Word has it that the game will be revealed next week as a launch title for Nintendo’s handheld. When contacted with a request for comment, Nintendo’s response was as expected: “Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

  1. Now that sounds interesting, it’d probably be an instant hit too.. let’s just hope that the grass doesn’t vanish quite so quickly into the third dimension! :3

    /me super stoked for E3!

  2. I have never played an Animal Crossing game. Apparently, they’re really good though, huh? Anyway, I would like to see a Star Fox game for 3DS, or at least one for Wii!

  3. It’s odd, Animal Crossing was the first game that came to mind when I imagined the capabilities of a hand held 3D gaming platform. I wonder if the one they might demo at E3 will be anything like I imagined it when they first announced the console.

    1. I kind of like the cel-shaded Zelda games. I prefer the more realistic approach for the console versions, but I feel the cel-shading works really nicely for portables. The 3DS looks like it’s going to be pretty powerful, so it doesn’t look like it will be as necessary to use cel-shading as it was with the DS.

    2. Yeah, I really liked the cel-shading approach. The Wind Waker was an amazing game, and I loved how it looked. I too prefer the realistic graphics, like OOT, MM, and TP, but Cel-Shading comes in a very close second in my book. Also, since the 3DS is going to be much more powerful, perhaps the somewhat grainy (choppy?) look PH and ST had, during cutscenes especially, will be a thing of the past, and what we’ll get will look like Wind Waker. That would be awesome!

  4. Yes Yes Yes. I absolutely LOVE the Animal Crossing Series. And think about it, if this game is what has developers excited about the 3DS, then it’s-a gonna be awesome.

  5. Oh man. I am going to be all over this. I just.. I really hope they go for innovation and creativity with this one. City Folk was a tremendous disappointment. Virtually nothing about it was different from Wild World. And Wild World was, by far, more polished and and enhanced from the original Gamecube version we got in the states. I loved everything about it. So when I got my hopes up for City Folk, it was all for nothing. They didn’t even give me new music!
