Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors that the company is considering the possibility of pushing automatic game demos to the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS, if the user gives his or her consent. The reasoning behind Nintendo doing this is to give gamers exposure to titles that they may not normally consider playing. Would you be happy if Nintendo did this?
“When Nintendo would like to ask users to try a specific new game, we should deliver it to their Nintendo 3DS, and possibly Wii U, with their prior consent and recommend that they just try it and, if they like it, they can pay for it,” Iwata said. “In this way, we need to introduce users to unknown products.”
“Consumers are likely to be convinced to pay about 5,000 yen [about $61.50] for a well-established franchise product, but not all the people are willing to pay a certain amount of money for an innovative but unknown product,” he said. “Now is the time to prepare for these situations.”

Smart, very very smart. Wii U is gonna kick ass
Home run, this is what apple needs. It’s like they are taking every thing from the other systems and making it cool instead of a choir.
I think they should do this, but I think it’s even more important that they make use of spotpass notificiations. I remember them saying one of the problems with the DSi Shop was that you had to go out and find titles in the shop yourself. It’s a bit better now on the eShop because they show some titles and things on the startup screen, but they should send notifications whenever new software is added etc
THIS!!!!! NINTENDO, PLEASE DO THIS!!! NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT UPDATES AND NEW GAMES, PLEASE!!!!
Yes, an influx of free demos could make quite a splash for Nintendo’s software sales.
That’s awesome!!! I love how they give you the choice whether to get the demos automatically or not.
This might be the best way ever to get gamers to buy games they never even considered buying.
Nintendo is genius.
Yes and no. If it’s Nintendo’s games then yes. But I don’t want to automatically download Call of Duty or any other ‘generic FPS’ games that clog the market these days. They’re just a waste of space and I don’t want to have my Wii U space wasted with them.
USB hard drive says your space will never be filled. Terabytes are cheap now. You could also click no. Come home to a new demo rather than some lame Internet hype would be a win.
Some demos would be nice, shit some games would be nice. It’s not that much of a great idea. I’d set mine to no automatic downloads because my Internet isn’t that quick and there’s bound to be some demos that I won’t play. I don’t download every demo on my 360 for the same reason. I tend to on Wii because there so rare! 3DS demos should be out now, come on guys!
PokeDex already automatically downloaded for me. I’m one of the rare Nintendo fans that actually don’t like Pokemon. They didn’t even give me the coins for it either.
Believe it or not, this is a marketing strategy. By doing this, Nintendo is trying to reward 3rd parties so more of them feel comfortable making games for Nintendo systems. As great as it is, it’s just another marketing strategy.
And it’s awesome.

Absolutely. Great idea. I’d love to demo some of the 3DS stuff im a little on the fence about :)
That’s a great fucking idea.
If you don’t like the demo u can always delete it so it wont take IP wii u space
Demos are very helpful, so they should have them whether they are automatic or not. Some of my favorite game purchases have been made because I played the demo, otherwise I would have never tried out the game.
VERY smart idea! I would love this to happen to me since I don’t get exposed to many games.
YES! FINALLY! This is very very smart. It’s even smarter that you can choose to either download the demos or not. That’ll shut fanboys up.
I thought this was already confirmed, but great to hear they’re continuing with the idea for both platforms. Hopefully we won’t have to wait until the Wii U comes out for this to happen.
I love this idea, and it’s great to see Nintendo offering readily avalible demos, infact demos that are downloaded for you! I enjoy the way 360 handles demos, and it seems like Wii U and 3DS will handle them better? I hope so. Huge step up from the wii
this sounds like a brilliant move by nintendo. having game demos to download would mean players can try out a game, and if they like it, they can purchase the full title.
often you’d get a game, play it and in the end, you feel like you wasted your money’s worth. but this idea is definitely worth considering. so yeah, nintendo go for it! :-)
nintendo demos i love the idea
this is what the next update should be like:free picture themes, free demos, netflix
i will tell my friends about
Make it automatically download the Nintendo week episodes each week so we can watch them lag free! And maybe even let us “follow” specific games that the system will tell you updates on, and download trailers for!
I like that idea! Maybe Nintendo will take heed of this and move into the current generation of online experiences.
f*ck yes! hopefully their demo category doesn’t fall short like on the wii though!
I just want to say I love this idea.I wish they had done this with the Wii as the demo system was very clunky and hardly user friendly.
