Microsoft’s marketing director of France, Cedrick Delmas has told reporters that Nintendo isn’t looking to compete against other console manufactures, and other console manufactures aren’t looking to compete against them. Sounds like a huge mistake on Microsoft’s part.

I do enjoy games, but I also like a touch of new games. I’m a single console owner (Wii), and it’s sad to me not be able to buy new games or be excited for new games, basically since there are like none coming.
I replay games a lot already, and I wish I had more quality games to play new and focusing on the old. I must have beat Super Mario 64 like a dozen times, played the heck out of my VC games; even recent releases of VC games and Wiiware games have been stale.

I disagree. Sony had the weakest console for the past two generations… and had the most successful console ever that appealed to the widest amount of people for a console in the PS2, while the PS1 sold the most for its generation as well. They’d be stupid not to do the same next generation (make the cheapest, not necessarily the weakest), because it worked so well before.
Microsoft… you’re right, they try to make powerful consoles… but I’d argue they are much more “casual” than Sony is… CoD and Kinect aren’t exactly the most hardcore things in the world you know…

Eh, they tried to make the most powerful console in the GameCube and failed epicly, at 24 million sales… they should at least try to make the Wii U at the same power as the weakest common denominator the next generation to get third party games and whatnot… Nintendo may beat their own drum, but third parties don’t, and that’s where a lot of the money comes from.

That’s actually very true, and I totally knew this would happen. Everyone kept saying that we still had the next gen microsoft/sony consoles to worry about for this upcoming gen, but if you really thought about it, it wouldn’t have been possible, and I’m sure Nintendo knew this, that’s why they planned it the way they did so that they won’t have to compete against the others.

It’s partially true they don’t worry about Nintendo they know its hardcore fans will always buy Nintendo and maybe also their console but Nintendos hardcore fans will always get a Nintendo console no matter what. Ever since the Wii released Nintendo has been going their own way. I bet WiiU will also be radically different from Sony/Msoft while still offering the same HD and online experiences (I mean what has yet to be announced at E3).

I mean they all have competative pricing and advertising but in the end all the major players are too different to compare. Thats just my opinion. Nintendo has been saying this for a while, and this has some true to it. Nintendo doesn’t seem to look directly at what the others are doing since they just do whatever they want. With the Wii U, it seems Nintendo is once again doing that while giving access to traditional controls for developers and gamers alike.
Then again, not competing directly with others doesn’t mean Nintendo is not a threat. They mobilized the whole touch screen thing and motion gaming with the DS and Wii and taking the industry in general by storm with that. We now have Move and Kinnect.
Ignoring Nintendo because they go at their own pace is a critical mistake to make at this point, specially since Nintendo is now building their own online network for games. Whatever these companies do, it would be in their best interest not to take Nintendo lightly for their own sake.

Nintendo does not go with the flow. They fight the competition in a different way. They don’t go mainstream quickly. They take their time. Look at how well the Wii sold. The Wii wasn’t as powerful as the Xbox 360 and PS3, but it knocked their socks off.

Microsoft and nintendo DO NOT LOOK for competition. They just want to be great gaming companies that make great games. Why can’t sony understand that?
Well, if they aren’t competing, then theoretically, if the Wii did not exist, the PS3 and Xbox360 sales would be unaffected. And I think we know that that is not the case. The Wii appealed most to the average household, and budget, and therefore sold the most.
The WiiU is on the high end of the market, but it’s still a competitor with the Xbox and PS3, or the future consoles. If the Wii is outdated, then customers are willing to turn to the other consoles, especially if the WiiU is going to be uber-expensive (which it probably will be). However, with third party support, the WiiU could easily stand to the hardcore console crowd, and that’s another substantial set of the PS3 and Xbox360’s market.
Finally someone figured it out! I hate when they say nintendo lives in the past, just because the focus on Nintendo is the experience and gameplay, not the lattest graphic technology.

I am hoping the 360 ( just got one 2 years ago) remains viable for another year or two anyways. Meanwhile I will be more than happy to get my next gen fix with the Wii U (specs indicate anywhere between 4-6x more competent than my current gen 360s) along with Nintendo’s great franchises!!!
I’ve been saying this for years. Nintendo is not playing the same game Sony and Microsoft are. They’re doing their own thing and moving the industry forward while the other 2 stay stagnant and just give you the same thing year after year, but it just looks better.
