Ubisoft To Port Wii U Games To Tablets & Smartphones

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, has told Games Industry that to better manage costs of Wii U development the company will port its Wii U projects to smartphones and tablets.  Guillemot explained that while its difficult to port Wii U games to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, there’s more opportunity to recoup costs if a title isn’t successful on a single touch-screen platform.

“The new content you can’t port on the other machines but what you can do is to port it to mobile phones and to tablets. So it’s a way to create content that you will be able to port on the generations of tablets or phones that work well – if you don’t monetise it there you can monetise it on many other platforms.”

“You have to do specific content to be monetised by the Wii U itself but it’s also an opening to all the tablets and phones because it’s a same system in in a way, the touch screen.”

  1. except whatever game that gets ported to those 99 cents game holders won’t be as fun to play as the wiiu version.

  2. So… Ubi is gonna make crap games now. When creating a game they will dumb it down not using full Wii U potential in order to make the software run on tablets and phones… Bad.

  3. Proving once again the Wii U is a piece of crap that’s late to the game. So much for that “fully supporting Nintendo”. LOL.

  4. …Can Smartphones handle games like Zombi U and Rayman Legends though? Gameplay aside they’d be pretty taxing graphics-wise. I’m guessing watered down, ‘lite’ versions of games?

  5. Dear aqua or whatever you are missing the point. The console make their job easier and helps them provide the games on tablet better. Using the streaming and the playing on the game pad . So that means full support. P.s the games cant be as good as the wii u ones

  8. To be honest, I’m quite neutral about this. We’re still getting support for games, but they’re also going to the Tablet market and whatnot. It might mean that they’ll pay .99 Cents, that’s the one downside. But, so far, we get a full experience and they may get only half the features that are in the Wii U.

Ubisoft is a company and know they might not make the ideal amount of money from the Wii U to give them the adequate amount for their employers and whatnot. It’s a good move on them, but it can be considered a disappointment to most.
