  1. Well said, but if it were extended into the top ten then we’d see Skyward Sword at six. It’s rather odd that LittleBigPlanet didn’t make the list.Switch out Halo with LittleBigPlanet then I’d have no problems with this.

      1. skyward sword is one of the few games in which the motion controls are actually less “casual” than the button controls, its much more involving than it ever was.

    1. Because ir wasn’t innovative in any way at all. They are all the same game apart from different single play campains and small changes in the multiplayer. Zombies is cool though :)

        1. Halo is a shooter sure, but the storyline is superb. Something that lacks in much others. The gameplay has always been fresh, along with the graphics. I can play the first halo today and still surprise me. I think that Halo is just another level of FPS. My opinion though..

    2. I agree. I don’t like COD much, but it did reshaped this gaming generation(for better or worse) for shooters. Now we see a bunch of shooter games that try to be like COD.

      1. THats what I was thinking, reshaping doesn’t have to mean for better, and honestly Galaxy is amazing, but it hasn’t influenced other games totry and recreate the experience. CoD & Halo, are the biggest reasons why the market is flooded with shooters,

        my list would be,
        1)Halo
        2)CoD
        3)Guitar Hero
        4)Sport Resorts
        5)iOS(its brouht 90 shitty apps)

    3. Call of duty 4 should of been on the list regardless of how you feel about the series..it was innovative at the time but the reason why it’s hated on is because they don’t change much from game to game and sell a ton…kinda like Pokemon.

  2. Halo?

I would agree if it was last generation but this one?

    Dream on…
Most overrated metroid copied game ever…

        1. so a similar trailer in the most recent game makes the entire series a copy? Although I perfer Metriod to Halo the games are almost nothing alike, and anyone who say halo is a copy of metriod is just being a idiot fanboy

        2. That’s because 343i (the Halo company) has some ex-Retro employes. Halo is one of my favorite series, and with some Retro people, it’ll be even better.

        1. Metroid Prime was released in 2002, Halo CE was released in 2001, if your going to idiotically claim one copied the other, at least troll right. and do research.

    1. lol wtf are you talking about? i mean yeah halo 4 does looks somewhat like metroid prime, but that doesnt make the other halo games that came before it a rip off.

  3. there are far better games out there that shaped this gen. and why the hell are there two shooters in that list. shooters don’t help shape anything.

      1. Yeah, just look at how many shooters there are this generation
They shaped this generation, doesn’t mean they shaped it in a good way in terms of variety

But I think bioshock would have been a good addition

  4. just because its number one it doesnt mean it played the BIGGEST part in shaping this console gen, in fact it only took platformers and wii games to the next level. cant say about other genres.

    1. Actually, it being number one does imply it played the biggest part in shaping this console gen. What else would it imply? The game had very large impact, not just on platformers or Wii games, but in games in general.

  5. Awesome. Played all except assassins creed. Never got to into that series but it’s a good list. Glad uncharted is on here. I love that series

    1. Please, play Assassin’s Creed. I’m literally begging you! You don’t know what you have been missing. Excellent storyline, out of common, historically based. The gameplay doesn’t change a lot at all, but it is iconic. At least the AC1 with Altair. Te succesor of Prince of Persia is a must-play in videogames history…

  6. I def feel that Little big planet should be there instead of halo. Halo was most important in the times of the first xbox

  7. Really? I have MG1 and played it for about an hour and stopped. Not my cup of tea I suppose.

Halo on the other hand, I understand. That’s a FPS that really launched online multiplayer. Halo 2 and 3 were massive titles.

The rest I couldn’t care less about either.

  8. Opinions aside, how is Halo on the list? The first one was on the original Xbox, and the franchise really hasn’t changed much this generation. By that logic, Grand Theft Auto should be on here as well. Personally, I believe Borderlands or Bioshock deserve the #4 spot.

    1. siegfried von schroder

Aeolus … i hope you realise that MG1 won game of the year… and that is only on ONE console compared to other multiplat games! Now that is amazing!

          1. >”One of the best looking games in the 7th generation”

LOL, NO. It’s Gamecube graphics with lens flare all over it.

That statement right there tells me you don’t play the other consoles (let alone PCs). Sonic Unleashed for instance, blows that game away in visuals.

            1. I’m talking about it’s art style and visual appeal, not graphics. Learn to read dip-shit. It easily looks better than most 7th gen games, which are just dark, gritty, and brown. and I’m seriously LMAO at the fact that you actually claimed it’s GameCube-level. How about you show me a GameCube that looks half as good as that? Oh and I do play more than one system for this generation, it’s called the PS3 and most games on it look like complete shit when compared to high-end PC games while a game like Super Mario Galaxy will stand the test of time.

              1. There is a fine line between “art style” and “graphics”. You were implying it was the best looking game in terms of the latter. It isn’t, and I will completely disagree on the “art style” as well, for it looks like every 3D Mario game ever, just with vastly different level design and mechanics.

“It easily looks better than most 7th gen games, which are just dark, gritty and brown.

So you also happen to be the living stereotype of a Nintendo fanboy if that’s the best you came up with.

How about you show me a GameCube that looks half as good as that?

I specifically said Gamecube game with lens flare, remove that lens flare and you literally have Mario Sunshine running at 60 FPS. Also, Metroid Prime.

“Oh and I do play more than one system for this generation,”

You don’t, and it’s easy to tell. Prove that you have them now, please and show me the games.

“it’s called the PS3 and most games on it look like complete shit when compared to high-end PC games while a game like Super Mario Galaxy will stand the test of time.”

The latter looks like utter shit on my Dolphin emulator, and PS3 games will hold up far better than it with very little effort. LA Noire, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 3, the list can keep going and going.

                1. I just love how you’re taking words out of my own mouth to try and prove me wrong. I said one of the best looking, where in ANY of my comments did I say it had the best graphics? Please games like LA Noire already look rather bad while Uncharted and Heavy Rain already looks dated compared to PC games. Super Mario Galaxy is going to hold up a lot easier because it relies on art-style over realistic graphics. That’s my point. Oh and how am I supposed to prove I own other consoles to you? By taking a fucking picture? I don’t have to prove shit to you. The fact that you’re actually saying that current-gen games w/ realistic graphics are actually going to hold up over time is laughable, at best, when games that rely on art-style or are cel-shaded will look, at the very least, decent, even in the near future.

  9. Yeah, galaxy did shape this gen. So many “gravity twisting” games came out after Galaxy did. Gravity Rush is the latest one :P

    1. Uhm, Gravity Rush is absolutely nothing similar to Mario Galaxy.

      Absolutely.
      Fucking.
      Nothing.

Gravity Rush is practically as original as a title in it’s class can get, you made that statement out of thin air, because god knows I can go on with endless ways to make you look like an idiot for saying such.

    2. Also, there has been a metric fuck ton of “gravity twisting titles” even before Mario Galaxy.

Crawl back into your hole with your Wiimote lodged in your ass.

      1. It seems you already did, with your fucking 300$ Smartphone with a Psone Emulator NO FUCKING GAEMZ.

HERR BUT ASSS CREEDZ IS CUMMING YOU ABORTION DERRR.

Oh silly Amir, Will you ever Learn?

  10. I cant agree to this, galaxy was just meh like the other 3d mario games. Next game if they have 120 stars have 120 levels

    1. You’ll see that A LOT of other people would disagree. Most would say that all of the 3D Mario games have all been at least great. SM64 was amazing, SMS was great, and SMG 1+2 were amazing.

      1. probably, this is just my opinion, I cant get into the 3D mario games due to having to repeat the same level 6 times

        1. But the thing w/ those levels is that you have a different objective and route each time. In fact, in SM64 and SMS, you could choose which-ever route you wanted. But it depends on preference.

  11. Wait, Super Mario Galaxy’s a franchise now? It’s only had two games… Then again, so did the Arkham Asylum/City one and various other recent ‘series’.

  12. Ummm no the call of duty games are way different from game to game. You obviously don’t play them so you dont know what your talking about. And I’m a huge Nintendo fan too but I play ps3 as well

  13. Congrats to Nintendo on the success of SMG. It was certainly one of the best reviewed games of this gen. The 3D Mario games usually kick ass. Leave luck to heaven.

  14. My list would probably be…

    1) Super Mario Galaxy
    2) LittleBigPlanet
    3) Uncharted
    4) Elder Scrolls
    5) Portal
