3D Will Be A ‘Minor’ Feature In Future Nintendo Consoles

Nintendo has said that 3D will only be a minor feature in their forthcoming consoles as the 3D stereoscopic effect isn’t going to keep people excited. However, they believe the 3D element to be an important feature that continues to give the visuals a certain amount of impact.

“Now we’ve created the 3DS and 3DS XL and also have some games out there that are really using that 3D effect that we can see, from my point of view, that it’s an important element.”

“But as human beings are this kind of surprise effect wears off quickly, and just have this 3D stereoscopic effect isn’t going to keep people excited.”

“I think it’s an important element, it makes graphics more impactful, it proves a sense of immersion that 2D doesn’t have, so I would say generally that 3D is better than 2D.”

“It’s nice to have good graphics but not necessarily on their own, so I don’t think we’ll present [3D graphics] as one of the key features of our consoles but will probably stick with 3D as one of the minor elements of our consoles in the future.”

    1. i think they should go back to gameboy advance designs. To counter PS Vita. well that would be a bad idea.

  1. I love 3D on the 3DS and hope ninendo advances the technology in the future. But yes, it’s good for them to try not to be a “one trick horse” and try to focuss more on new, exciting elements for their consoles like they always do.

  2. I actually enjoy the 3d. It was a bonus treat since it was stereoscopic. All you haters and whiners can go suck it. As they say, if you dont like the 3d, just turn it off.

Aside from that, it was a wise decision to not make it such a big trend. Cant wait to see what new games will and wont utilize 3d features. I can never get too disappointed with Nintendo’s work

    1. Its not that simple, what if someone develops a game around 3D, like those small part in Mario 3D Land where you actualy need it to see those blocks?

Why miss out on a game, When you own the console but the 3D has to be on.?

I’m glad their doing away with it, saves more money.

  3. 3DS games look amazing, regardless of whether 3D is on or not. With that being said, I generally have no interest in 3D games. I mean, it’d be cool to revisit some older titles that support 3D (God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, talking to you both) but otherwise I’m content with 2D.

  4. I think for their handheld systems they should keep the 3D. It’s a really neat feature and provides more immersive experiences. Just what Nintendo keeps wanting to provide.

Do you know the fucking definition of a gimmick, you fuckin’ idiot?

      1. Gimmick = the new thing I don’t like, apparently.

Anonymous is probably the same kind of tard who thinks gay was always a bad word.

  6. This is kind of something Nintendo does every new console. When they introduce a new gimmick, they kind of downplay the previous one. But yes, 3D should definatley stay as it can add a lot to the experience & introduce clever new gameplay possibilities (as Super Mario 3D Land has shown).

  7. Ass long as they keep the option to switch off while charging you full price for a failed gimmick. Btw the sweet spot is sticking the 3ds up a pedophiles ass.

  8. Btw accoring to a kotaku poll the only people buying 3dsxl are previous owners smh guess it was target at dumb fags that like being lied to,taken advantage of and are massive tool morons. Shitendo sucks it sells it garbage because their fans are brainless

  9. I personally enjoy the 3D effect and hope to continue seeing it in all future consoles. It’s easier on my eyes and the graphics look better when the effect is on.

  11. I never really cared for the 3D effect, and usually I have it off. Well, sometimes I use it to watch cutscenes and such in their full 3D glory, but when gaming I prefer having it off. I think this is a good decision, especially since the 3D fad is wearing off (I never really got into it either way, 3D looks pretty but it’s not that amazing). As long as we have the option to keep the 3D off, I’m happy.
