Nintendo Says Being First To Market With Wii U Isn’t Important

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told journalists that being first to market with Wii U isn’t important to the company. Iwata says that the most important aspect is the pricing, which will be much more important than having the advantage of first to market.

“One of the reasons we believe this is the time for Nintendo to launch the Wii U is it’s going to be important for the world.”

“The pricing of Wii U is going to be one of the most important elements when it is going to be launched. The environment is different. Wii U is going to be launching in a different environment than when the Wii was launched. Also, the involvement surrounding [mobile and social] businesses is different than several years ago.”

  1. I’m already saving for mine. Hoping for some bundles that include a Wii Remote Plus. Leave luck to heaven.

  2. My dad who advetises for Nintendo gets to test out the Wii U and it features as part of a special event today. That’s why I love the fact that he works for a major advertising company like Leo Burnett.

  3. I just hope the Wii U is $300-350 and has a bundle with a Wii Mote Plus + Nunchuk and Nintendo Land.

    That would be the tits.

  4. The reason why it doesn’t matter is ms and Sony don’t make consoles for games, they make appliances and os revisions.

The only reason the wii sales drew up was because every one knows about the wiiu, every one wanted one in hd. Now it’s out and it’s sort of an end game for Sony and ms since hd gave them a reason to be different. The sad part is no one wants to replay their console like games…. They only want to play their pc like games.

The next consoles from ms and Sony will be pc like and feature more pc games than console games. They are in a rough spot because they still have not figured out how to keep players playing their games rather than trading them in.

Now nintendo has hd and online, the only real things that matter to real gamers.

I must admit though Sony did make their games better visually, yet any one can find an hd artist. Unfortunately their games are not fun yet. I think this is why they copy so much and fail so often. The corp culture doesn’t hire creative types.

If the other consoles are more powerful then many third parties will not beable to out spend the big corps inorder to compete. They won’t like it but nintendo will be right there waiting for them all to come home or pride surely will collapse them like many of my favorite devs this gen.

Also nintendo seems ready to do the unthinkable, merging the home console with the portable. The 3dsxl is a shade or two away from the wiiu. We all know the end game would be Pokemon on a home console. Mario still is the best platformer, it’s just unfortunate Sony doesn’t fix lbp… It’s great that nintendo listens to real gamers and they are starting to weed out the trolls and the marketing fanboys.

    1. Only a few truer words have been spoken such as yours. Nintendo being first can actually live the Wii U open for a spruced up version come time for the PS4. Xbox shall always suck period.

  5. Uh, really? Usually the first console does phrnominally in terms of software sales.

Wii may have sold more units but the software sales of XBOX360 destroy it, as does the recorded continuous play-time of those games.

I know dozens of people who bought a Wii (myself included) who have played it for not even a total of a few days when you add the time up together. That’s not uncommon either. Maybe it is for users of THIS website, but this website also isn’t a valid randomized, non-biased market representation.

  6. Dreamcast was first to market … and it got dead by PS2.

Being first to market is not always a good idea.

    1. But it’s not like the highest selling console of the last few years was first to the market or anything.

        1. im comparing a first next gen console/handheld to sales dumbass, did U even read it?
my point is that been first does not mean fail.

  7. well it’s important to your competition because they are the ones who will study your hardware and copy and or improve on it and make it their own.
