Square Enix Has No Further Plans For Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary

Tai Yasue, director of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance has told Siliconera that the development team has no further plans to celebrate Kingdom Hearts 10th Anniversary. Yasue says that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS is their way of celebrating the series long history.

Do you have any other plans for the 10th anniversary?

“Not at the moment, no. Kingdom Hearts 3D is definitely our 10th anniversary title.”

  1. You better re-release the first 2 titles in HD for the Wii U in November. You can throw in the portable games on a seperate disc, or make it a 3 disc collectors edition. I would buy that shit instantly. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. I don’t really see a reason why they should re-release them on the WiiU. Even IF they would happen to re-release the “main” Kingdom Hearts titles, I’m guessing that this wouldn’t happen on the WiiU. They originally appeared on a system of a different company so the re-released versions would probably appear on the successor of that system. Seems more logical to me, at least.

        1. True. But they’re spin-offs. Every Kingdom Hearts game that appeared on a Handheld was a spin-off, if I’m not mistaken. I simply don’t believe that they would prefer to re-release the main games on a Nintendo system while having the possibility to re-release them on a successor of the earlier system, may it be the current successor or the one which is coming up. And since the development of such games takes a little time, I’m even guessing that the possibility of the HD-remakes appearing on the up-coming successor of that system is higher than the possibility of them appearing on the WiiU. Just my personal feelings, of course you do not have to agree if you do not find my opinion comprehensible.

          1. Actually most agree that kingdom Hearts 3D, like Kingdom hearts Birth by Sleep, is in fact NOT a spin off and rather a continuation of the main story line. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days, Chain of memories and Re:Coded do however count as ‘Spin Offs’ since their events are either forgotten in the main storyline or do not affect the main characters. you’re entitled to your opinion but your still wrong.

          2. @ Anonymous:
Dream Drop Distance takes place directly after the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 2.
Remember the letter they found in that bottle?
That was a letter telling them about the Mark of Mastery exam that they have to take.
3D is about the events leading into Kingdom Hearts 3.
It’s not a spin-off, it’s one of the main line titles, and it’s on the 3DS.
Now that this exception to the “Main line = no handhelds” rule has been proven and put out there, it is more than possible that HD ports of the first two could come to the Wii U.

    2. You do know that it’s more than possible to fit all 6 games on the same disc right, especially if they’re just ports? Dual-Layer is a wonderful thing.

  2. I’m honestly surprised they don’t attempt to remake the first two. It’d be so easy to put the first two on a bluray disc together for PS3 (like so many other games). I’m not sure about WIi U though, it might be harder to do that. But regardless, they should upscale it and re-release it. Ever since these HD collections started coming out, I was dying for a Kingdom Hearts release!

I know it may only be 10 years, but you’d think they’d do SOME sort of special set. I suppose it might be hard since they released them on different platforms…. PS2, PSP, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, and now Nintendo 3DS…. I wonder if we’ll just flat out see a multi-platform release? The only platform it hasn’t been released on is Microsoft.

      1. I mean seriously, do they just sot there doing nothing or what? FF is nearly dead, releasing a game as disappointing a 13, although 13-2 was much better, would be the final nail in the coffin… And then they cancel Versus 13….
Its like theyre just trolling the entire world.

        1. IN ADDITION: They have FUCKED UP Heroes of Ruin.

I heard nightmares of glitches and online mayhem, but wanted it so bad I ignored them.

It was released in the US last week, I purchased it, and there online account system is jacked.
          – won’t let you register US version of the game
          – won’t give you the QR code to link to your online account
          – won’t keep track of stats online properly.

Granted, not everyone is affected, but there are a whole hellava lot of us.

Square-Enix doesn’t five a shit apparently, or dig their hole so deep by not testing the game and online components properly, that now they can’t dig their way out.

If you’re affected by this shit, let them know online: Twitter @square_enix @square_enix_eu @square_enix_rss

          1. Wow, I thought the Heroes of Ruin US problem was just me. Either it’s a nationwide problem or some of us (me included) just don’t know how to link our Heroes of Ruin accounts…

Also, when I got the game a few days ago, the official Heroes of Ruin website was unbelievably slow. I beat the first dungeon (the short one in the Prologue) before the home page loaded, and afterwards spent forever waiting to log in only to get a error message that the website wasn’t responding.

  3. i’d pay serious money for a kingdom hearts HD collection, KH1, CoM, and KH2 FM+.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

  4. square enix just piss people off they don’t do a remake or hd remaster on first two kingdom hearts and they fuckin cancelled ffvxiii thats a load of bullshit fans have been waiting for that game since 2006 now they are just like crapcom and megaman.

  7. That’s really stupid.
    “What’s your 10th anniversary plans?”
“Releasing yet another handheld side game!”

    1. It’s not a side game, though.
It takes place directly after the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 2, and the game’s plot is about the events that lead into Kingdom Hearts 3.
This isn’t a spin-off or a side game; its a main plot title with important storyline elements that will be crucial to totally understanding what’s going on when KH3 comes out.
