Brand-New Metroid In Development For Wii U?

Nintendo’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Scott Moffitt, hasn’t confirmed whether a new Metroid title is being developed for Wii U, but he did say fans of the series get to enjoy Nintendo Land attraction Metroid Blast while developers are “thinking and imagining” about the possibilities of Wii U’s Metroid.

A couple of days ago, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that Nintendo EAD, Shigeru Miyamoto and Retro Studios are working on unannounced Wii U projects; among the three, who do you wish is the developer of the first HD Metroid game?

“…I think we all can’t wait to see what a Zelda experience might look like in high definition. For now, they’ll have to enjoy the Zelda: Battle Quest game that exists inside Nintendo Land. But I think that we can all imagine that Zelda would look great in HD, and there could be a lot of new features added with the [Wii U] GamePad.”

“With Metroid Blast, you get to enjoy that franchise while the developers are, you know, thinking and imagining what could be possible with Metroid on Wii U.”

-Scott Moffitt, Nintendo’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing

            1. Hey! I loved Other M!!! It is my favorite Metroid game and Ive played like ever sine one. Even got the first one on my 3DS that Im playing right now. Thought the storyline was one of the best Nintendo has ever come out with.

              1. I loved it too, and i played trilogy as well. I loved every bit of other M. Unfortunately it didnt meet everyones expectation. sigh…. I love story based games. Maybe it is coz fps suck and ithink its gay ;) i hope the gameplay of metroid other M stays

    1. Hey, he co-created the Metroid series dude. You should be thankful for him, even if he did compose a controversial storyline which I honestly have no problem with but to each his own.

          1. I would love a 2D Metroid style game with high-end creepy graphics. I’d eat that up in a second! Like the cinematic of Mother Brain in Other M kind of realism but IN GAME with the Super Metroid or Fusion 2D gameplay.

It shouldn’t be needed to be said but I’ll say it anyway: It has to be without all the lame mellow drama from Other M.

      1. Actually, Gunpei Yokoi create Metroid, he whose name should not be spoken just direct the first game, with the second game he don´t even touch it, and in Super Metroid he return to direct it UNDER the management of Yokoi, went this one pass away, Yoshi took over the game and produce Fusion and Zero Mission (you see where the things are going? First liniarity then Zero Suit) but in niether of those two game he haved the kind of producer power that he ednded up having in Other M in witch he ended up having the last word in every single ditail of the game, story, character development, character desing, gameplay, everything wrong with other M has it´s root in Moto.

        1. Weird. When Yoshio Sakamoto produces a Metroid game with another studio, we get Metroid: Other M. When Shigeru Miyamoto produces Metroid games with another studio, we get the Prime Trilogy. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;) And yes, Shigeru Miyamoto was the producer of all 3 Prime games. It was actually his idea to give Retro the license to work on the Metroid series after seeing an FPS engine they created. Beyond that Miyamoto didn’t have that much involvement.

          1. And it was in fact Miyamoto the one that say to Retro to make the game as a FPP, forcing them to do the game again from scratch; before that, the game was a over the shoulder perspective much like gears of war.

              1. Yes, but knowing who important was for the gamers watch Link grow up from a child to an adult made him change his mind about the FPP, but he still use it for the Sling shot and bow.

And fearing that the console could not handle how big some part of the game were, in some point in development the game was plan to have a Super Mario 64 approach, jumping from level to level through paints, Phantom Ganon room is a left over of that idea.

    2. Don’t go talking about him like that. He gave us Metroid. And everyone needs to stop bitching over Other M. I am a fan of the series and ENJOYED Other M.

      1. Agreed 100%. Gotta take the good with the bad. Other M was fun to me, even if it isn’t the best. You gotta remember that he personally directed Super Metroid, which everyone loves.

The thing is that, if he directs the next game as well, he just needs to have someone else handle the script, because it’s obviously not his strength.

      2. Thank you! It was a good game. I wouldn’t be bothered to see another game designed like it. People need to realize that they should be throwing their hate at Team Ninja, not Sakamoto. I personally had no problem with it.

      1. If a new developer can make a great game like when Retro made the first Prime it would be amazing. But I think you can understand that i’m a little apprehensive about a new Metroid game coming from someone other than Retro who has a proven track record of great Metroid games.

        1. Man you are so whiny. It’s clear that you don’t like Other M and that you would rather have Retro develop the new Metroid. The prime Trilogy is over, Deal with it.
I personally enjoyed other M Way more then Prime. Altho prime was cool, i couldn’t finish it, because after a while and it became boring.

Other M is how metroid should be. Fast paced action!! They should stick to the other M formula 2d/3d. Only thing they need to tweak is Samus’s character and decent story telling.

    1. The first-person viewpoint is exactly why I couldn’t get into the Prime Trilogy. I’d give Metroid another try if they put out a new one that was 3rd-person. (I’m not even going to try Other M; some little shit on SmashBoards drove me to detest Anthony Higgs)

    2. I agree, I don’t think 1st person is the right track for Metroid series..and I LOVE FPS games. Other M had an excellent gameplay IMO.

On the other hand, I think Nintendo needs an exclusive FPS game..something on par with Halo, Killzone and so on (but with a good story)…so maybe a new Metroid Prime with some kind of multiplayer following a totally different background story within the Universe of the Metroid series, but not not necessarily involving Samus would be nice. Some people say multiplayer would ruin Metroid, but I don’t think so..if it was done this way, at least o.o

      1. Yep. First person is view is cool looking but not fun to play. Samus has one of the most advanced suit in gaming. SHe should be fat and versitle. Not some slow moving heavy rock

  1. On another note, is it just me or is Nintendo Land looking better and better? I’m starting to think Nintendo really was telling the truth when they said it was a full game.

    1. It is, those minigames have some serious depth :O wish it had online tho :/ Zelda, metroid blast, Pikmin garden, and fzero would be awesome of you could play with others from around the world.

    2. It is getting better and better.

We haven’t gotten a really full look at how the lobby works, so I can’t wait to get in there and see it myself! SO EXCITED! :D

      1. I’m wondering about the hub too.. How the hell does it work? You ride a train to the events, but there are other people’s mii characters there. But there’s no online? Is the hub intergrated into the miiverse? Miiverse is definitely a nextgen user interface from the sound of it and its going to be interesting to see what role it plays in games.

    1. I really think you guys just made Samus out to be what YOU wanted her to be. I mean, back in the day there was not the technology to fully express her emotions. So many assumed she was just a quiet loner. I had no problem with Other M’s story other then it being a little bit too melodramatic sometimes.

      1. That’s because she was a loner. And you’re overly tolerant to the point of pure denial if you think Other M was a laudable effort.

      2. There was a huge flaw with Other M, it made Samus out to be a submissive little bitch. Sure Fusion showed that she had a connection to a former CO but nothing along the lines of that pile of crap.

    2. I dont know why anyone is criticising Other M?! It was great, the storyline was amazing and I felt that Samus was stronger than ever, because I believe in those who are strong enough to let their enotions show. They made her into a more dybamic character which is what I like. there was really nothing rwong with the game at all. It was a masterpiece. Hope tey do somthing like Other M again!!! :D

      1. I feel the same way. Yes, Other M had some flaws, such as the weird over the shoulder slow walking view ;p. And sometimes a samus that, for some, is too submissive. But does that make it a bad game. Absolutly not.
I’ve had much interest in Metroid Games. Tried Prime, altho fun, i had to force myself a littleto play it and in the end never finished it. Other M on the other hand i finished whitin a week. It’s one of those few games that keeps me interessed, not wanting to go to sleep etc. The action was just superb! Other M made me a fan of The Metroid franchise.

I don’t get how people who call themselfs Fans can go so far as to say “let’s forget Other M ever happend”. IMO they are not fans. Fans support a franchise and are open to new Ideas and directions, wich is exactly what Other M did. I mean common: you got a whole Trilogy of Prime, but u can’t take one game with a different direction. Some fans.

Stop being like sheep and copying what game reviewers call Other M. *Cough G4*

  2. I REALLY hope she doesn’t over express herself, or bitch and sob in the next one. That’s what sucked about Metroid: Other M. She’s supposed to be a bad-ass femme fatale that was raised by the species who mastered and transcended war, not some everyday, overly emotional girl.

    1. I think the point was to show that she is relatable. That despite her “kick-ass” feeling about herself she is still a normal human being. Under her armor and fighting skills her emotions effect her like
anyone else. It made her more realistic and somthing to grasp onto. If anything it was great character development. She is still a bad ass, but now we know she is a bad ass with a great big heart… whats wrong with that!?

      1. I really hoped I didn’t have to put this up again, but whatever. Don’t be bothered by the name, the reviewer brings up many valid points. Watch it beginning to end and tell me what you think.

  3. I just want a 2/2.5D metroid game that’s playable off the gamepad! hopefully we get one of those and a 3D metroid too this gen :D

      1. I completely agree, I can’t help but imagine it at 480p on a 6inch screen *drools* Plus, manipulating platforms and grappling points right there on the screen. It would be amazing @_@

  4. I want a brand new Metroid game..I don’t think I can wait a year or 2….

    I’m waiting on…………………
    Zelda 3ds–not a remake
    Zelda wiiU
    Metroid U
    Metroid 3ds
    Starfox U
    Smash bros U
    Smash bros 3ds
Ninja Gaiden 3ds– which was announced upon the 3ds launch
Donkey Kong U — which I believe is what Rare is working on– An open world/3d style like the DK64

It just seems like Nintendo has a lot on their list to pay attention to both systems…and put games out within a year or 2.. a year or 2 and i bet people will start complaining….

    1. There was allot of stuff announced at the launch of the 3DS that we never got, nor does it look like we ever will :( Ninja Gaiden, unfortunately, could be put on that list.

    2. ima fan inside nintendoland therefore, i cannot complain.. i wud enjoy many of ze games on that list and if nintendo develops a few of them then fine. i have a feeling though tht ssbros wiiu will be alot like melee and abit like brawls aerialness :s

    3. Rare is owned by Microsoft. They wouldn’t be able to make a game on any other console but an Xbox.

  5. I may be alone, but I enjoyed Other M. I wanted to see another side to Samus, and I enjoy games with lots pf cutscenes, like interacting with a movie.

I WOULD, however, like to see her become the rough, kick-ass hunter we know her as.

Other M as a Character prequel was great. I wouldn’t mind letting them take another Crack at it, with the promise of telling the story of how she matured and hardened into the Prime Samus.

    1. One thing wrong with your last sentence. While what you are saying would make a lot more sense, Other M officially takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, AFTER the Prime Trilogy.

      1. Embarrassingly, I did not know that.
In that case, Other M was a Character Fail.
I’ll just keep telling myself it was a prequel. :-/

        1. It was!
Everything else was good… EXCEPT the main character. She goes from like this technological war goddess, to a post-traumatic stressed, way-too-easily-surprised, ditzy, almost everyday kinda girl. =/
I want to see poise, grace, tactics, intelligence, and overkill, like we’re used to seeing. Lol

          1. “overkill” lol I loved the part in corruption at the start with Ridley. She just forces open his mouth while shooting down his throat at the end.

            1. Yeah! I know! Haha
I want that Samus back! Brutal, no mercy (except with cute animals), and complete disintegration! Lol

      2. Pfff. Untill now samus has been as dark and moody as a character can get. Characters who never change are boring and shallow, but those who grow and develop over time have far more depth. U people want samsu to be Ha bloodthirsty killer hell bent on revenge for her parents death. Such a character isn’t deep, but dull imo.
I’m surpised thet didn’t give samus more emotions. He parents where murdered, and she partially to blame for the deaths of ALLOT of people. She saved the baby, gave them to the scientist, wich made them prey to the space pirates. If that doesn’t give you issus i don’t know what does.
If you want to dislike something about the new samus, then dislike her barby look and her zero suit wich cheapen the character a bit.

        1. Have you ever thought that maybe the lone wolf/solitary/silent personality Samus had in previous games WAS the result of all she’s been through? Think about it for a second.

          1. Well, if it was, i’m glad it’s over because of reasons stated above.

Your ok Mike S. I have nothing against u. Only dislike your cursing sometimes. Makes me think your a 12 year old.

    2. I played the entire prime series, was hype as hell for other m watching trailers and stuff (that was the 3ds reveal e3 too, so I was already super hyped); then the reviews came… So I avoided the game. I may play it one day, but Im not too sure I want to..

      1. Yes, pure example off the world going downhill. A reviewer gives a game a bad score so “ZOMG, it must be horrible”. And yes is reviewer, cuz G4 is the only popular review site that i know of wich has given the game a bad score. Most gave it an 8 or higher.
You’r probably one of the people who thinks anything lower then a 9.0 is bad.

Your reasons just suck to me. If i am hyped for a game, based on what i’ve seen and what i’ve read. I play the game, form my own opinion and then see what reviewers have to say about it. You people let the reviewers tell you what you should think. Pathethic.

    3. You are not alone!!! I loved Other M! It was amzing and I loved the character development. Despite the storyline being
after the prime trilogy, the character development makes sense as it was a more indepth look at Samus. We got to see who she really is inside… normal everyday kind of girl. She is still badass just more relatable. I dont see anything wrong with that at all!! P.S the cutscenes were AMAZING! I agree 100%

    1. FUCK! *cancels preorder* When will Nintendo fucking learn!!11 Thanks, I thought I wanted to play the videogames I like, but now I care about arbitrary numbers and hardware specs that dont equate to good gameplay. Thanks for telling how to spend my fucking money.^_^

  6. I can see the future now…

    NINTENDO PRESENTS…

    A RETRO STUDIOS PRODUCTION…

    POWERED BY RETRO TECHNOLOGY
(Unreal 4, eat your heart out!!!!)

      1. Dafuq? They’re building an engine from the ground up for the WiiU I’m sure it can *easily* give UE:4 a run for its money. What ever they’re making is going to look pretty damn impressive. They have some serious talent there, more than ever before in fact. Trust me, there games going to be a graphical showcase.

      2. Im not so sure. U4 has to be made compatible with every system, but Retro’s engine only has to work for WiiU, they can optimise the hell out of it, really push the system to its own potential, similar to the Naughty Dog and Guerilla engines, on the PS3

        1. True on that aspect, but UE4 on PC will still obliterate it (Along with everything else). Still going to be interesting though to see what Engine Retro makes.

          1. Oh no doubt, but it could look alot better than U4 could on consoles, games like Uncharted, Infamous and Killzone look way ahead of the current generation.

          2. I’m not going to discredit UE:4, but I’m definitely not going to dismiss what ever Retro has going on. That first batch of console UE:4 games will be comparable to retros project. Retro have had a lot of time with the hardware. Of course a powerful PC will run circles around it, thats a given. What the only pc UE:4 game is fortnight? I think retro could pull a off something that rivals that, but latter cycles of Unreal4 games will be jaw dropping. Hopefully what ever Retro makes both looks AND plays great. :)

      3. Come to think of it… you’re right Jellybean. Secondly, my apologies to you for assuming that you’re one of the rival fanboys.

        1. Eh, I ain’t one of those fanboys. I don’t really believe in being a fanboy to just one company. I love what all have to offer (But If I had to hate anyone, it would be Microsoft, they need to learn what the meaning of, having more than 3 IP’s is). Now I love Nintendo, (And absolutely adore Retro) But I don’t believe they can defeat UE4 (I’ll be happy if they can somehow prove me wrong though ) =)

  7. Retro should make Metroid, Miyamoto should do a new IP or Star Fox, or the other way around, so Miyamoto makes Metroid, and Retro do Star Fod or a new IP. And obviously EAD are making Mario or Zelda

      1. Agreed on Platinum Games >.< but Kamiya's only ever said he wants to make it, which could happen now, but i was talking about games in developement right now

        1. In all honestly, (I know Sakurai is busy with Smash Bros). I’d love to see a new Kid Icarus game for Wii U. I absolutely loved the 3DS one.

          1. Me too, theres still alot of potential with that series now, could definantly make a sequel, and would be awesome on WiiU, but i dont want my 3DS becoming useless, i like the fact it has unique games

  8. Retro Studios is making StarFox HD. Miyamoto is working on his new IP and Zelda and Pikmin 3. So that leaves EAD. Or just let Retro make Metroid Prime 4 after Starfox.

    1. They all died -.-
      Although Ridley always comes back.
I hope they just leave the Prime trilogy and start a new one for this generation.

      1. Didn’t they say something about continuing the series if fans wanted it enough? I believe in the developer interviews about Metroid Prime Trilogy. And what about that ship at the end of MP3?

  9. I don’t think it will be Retro, I think that that Retro is busy working on the new engine for the Wii u and I think it’s going to be a Metroid or a star fox game, I think they are doing something completely different taht we would never expect and its killing me that I cant figure it out. Though I want it to be a Mother HD collection with remastered music.

    1. Well, depending on how much of a price cut it receives, the 3DS could receive some hefty competition :) meaning both companies will give us more games etc etc etc =)

    2. They definitely will lose money in the process, and if it doesn’t move hardware now; a pricedrop next year might be too little too late. We’ll see.

    3. Thats pretty good, but still doesnt have a good enough library of games…
Not mention by that point id have a ps3, a 3DS, and a WiiU. I dont think id have enough money to keep 4 different systems, and keep them relevant.

  10. Personally, I’d like to see either Nitnendo EAD personally make the next Metroid or let someone else have a try. I really don’t want Retro to take it up again because I’m sick of the first-person gameplay. I love have gotton into Metroid Prime so much better if it was third-person.

On that note, I’d like to see Retro expand to other franchises. They revived Metroid, now they should use it to help others. Star Fox would be an excellent start. Although, it would be heavenly if they could make Earthbound too.

  11. On the screen it reads….

    Three preannounced Wii U projects:

    WiiU: Metroid Nano Invasion

    3ds/Wiiu: F-Zero:UtimateRacers

    WiiU: Starfox: Shadows Of Lylat

All of them sound promising :p

      1. Sadly, it was a joke all of them are not announced ,not even planned on.But it does have a back story to all of them F-Zero would have a power up to make the cars level up into ultra mode and would crossplay with WiiU and 3DS. Shadows of lylat is a fan game that ppl waited 6 years to find out it was cancelled. The Metroid name is self explanatory Alien-Monster like creature invades the galaxy. I just thought of the names except for SF because I couldn’t think.

  12. With it being my favorite series of all time, Nintendo and Nintendo alone. Don’t get me wrong the Prime trilogy was good but, the best Metroids have been made by Nintendo and only Nintendo. Other M was not terrible, Team Ninja just needs to stop trying to ruin series they have nothing to do with, through bad story telling and their own ignorance to what fans expect from a series.

    1. The story of Other M was done by Sakamoto (Nintendo), Team Ninja only did the graphics and controls. It was also Sakamoto who enforced that the game would only be played with the sideways Wii remote, Team Ninja wanted to add the Nunchuck.

    2. Team Ninja had nothing to do with the story, and I believe Nintendo asked them to make Metroid because Sakamoto is a fan of Ninja Gaiden. That’s what I heard anyway.

    3. I actually didnt mind the story in Other M, although Samus’ character was off -.- but Team Ninja had nothing to do with it.
Team Ninja did however have alot to do with the gameplay which is where it dropped the ball for me.

A game can have an amazing story and graphics, but they only last once, after that, youve seen it all before.
But anazing gameplay always keeps you coming back. Ive played all the Prime games about 3 times over, and Super and Fusion too.
But ive only ever been able to play Other M once. I cant physically get myself through it a second time.

      1. They still left a plot hole in the story. You don’t leave your audience to figure out big things like that without providing that much information; That’s not something you should ever ever do with a story. You want your audience to guess at something while leaking information to them and eventually revealing all of that information.
I actually didn’t mind Samus’s character at all when I played the game. I felt the only real problem with her character was that she was too one-sided in terms of her personality and basically acted the same way throughout the game. It basically made her a harder character to connect to.

    4. Other M was a great game. Loved Samus’ new “character”. She is human afterall, despite a super suit and super strength… She still has human feelings…

      1. She wasn’t raised by humans; she was raised by Chozo, with her DNA augmented by theirs. And, she saw Ridley kill her parents as a very young child, and she didn’t cry like she did when she saw him in Other M. I understand that there would be trauma there, but her expression of it as an adult as it was portrayed in Other M was over-the-top, especially if it was less as a mere child, and generally children have much less control over their emotions. Also, by then, she should have been used to him being revived over and over again anyway, or at least much less surprised, or maybe more upset, but not terrified to the point of freezing up, and not being able to concentrate or fight. It was stupid.

        1. You connecting her reaction as a child to her reaction as an Adult is Uber fail. A child isn’t always able to grasp the meaning over certain situations. A grown-up however can. Ridley, her parents Killer suddenly shows up and you would have prob liked her One shot him and say “Astalavista baby”. It might have been a teensy bit over the top, but it still makes her character more depth.
U people act as if Ridley is a walk in the park. He is a brutal killing machine. She killed him and suddenly he is back. I would have liked to see her faint :p.

      2. And, I really liked the game…. I just don’t think Samus was thought through too well. And, they left a lot of plot holes in the story that left you thinking that maybe they ran out of time, or something.

  13. I would like to see what Retro could do if they made a 3D platformer for Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong 64 was amazing and look at all the limitations it had, and considering Retro is the new Rare…

  14. Sounds great, been a while since a new Metroid game. It may sound strange but I enjoyed Other M, I thought the gameplay was great and fast-paced. And Zero Suit Samus was sexy ;) Anyway, Retro seems to me like the only guys who can give a 3D Metroid game some justice. I would love for them to work on a new Metroid game with the same exploration of the Prime games, except this time it’s in third-person mode. You could scan stuff with the WiiU controller and it’ll bring up a first person mode and have all the visor hud stuff while scanning. It could also bring up info on what you’re scanning.

While we’re at it, add the planet exploration that Prime 3 had, but each planet would be huge, a big enviroment like the first Metroid Prime game. Make each planet have a civilization, some planets could have it, others wont, like in some worlds, the civilization disappeared for (depending on the story) reasons unknown. This is were scanning comes in, you could scan for clues and learn about the lore and the people from those planets, ala Metroid Prime 3. Give it the lonely, brooding enviroment the Metroid games are known for, if the planet doesn’t have civilization, and if it does, then on the areas that don’t have life. Also make the Gunship/Starship controllable like something out of Starfox, cause there could be hostile forces around a planets orbit, even asteroids.

As for the combat, the same, but it could be refined. You could either play this in 1st or 3rd person mode, although in 1st person, you could scan the enemy and find their weakness, or you could be fighting the enemy in 3rd person, and just bring up the gamepad to scan. And for those wondering, voice acting is what put people off from Other M. You could make Samus badass and talk, if you do it right. Maybe get Jennifer Hale to voice Samus again.

Also one more thing, taking a cue from Prime 2’s multiplayer mode, for people who want this, maybe an online mode. Like multiplayer. You could go against other people, choose your power suit, and your weapon loadouts and duke it out. Or help each other online, like Escalation from Transformers. You and some players go against enemies and it gets difficult as you go up in the waves. As you go higher, you even battle bosses. It would be interesting to see what they do if they do include multiplayer.

And for those who want a 2D Metroid, one dev can do this, WayForward, my favorite dev after Retro Studios. Sorry for the long comment folks!

    1. Those are actually some good ideas, I’d love to play a Metroid game like that. I’m actually sick of ten-hour games, so a huge Metroid game that lasted fifty hours or more would be really nice.
Also, by “Jennifer Hale”, are you referring to the cut out narrative that was still within the MP1 files? Because I agree that her voice would be better than that of the voice actor in Other M, since her voice is closer to what you would think Samus would be like personality-wise.

      1. Appreciate the compliments on the ideas. I think Metroid just has the potential to be a big or massive game like that. And the planet exploration would make sense because one of the Metroid series strong points is it’s atmosphere that it envokes.

As for Jenny, I remember reading that she voiced Samus in the Prime games, like the grunts Samus does when she get’s hit, so having Jennifer back as Samus would be a wise move, since everyone didn’t like whoever voiced Samus in Other M and we all imagine Samus’ voice is like Jennifer’s or the other way around. That and she’s my favorite voice actress, and like I said, they can make the voice acting work, as long as they do it right.

  15. Pingback: New Wii U Metroid Game in Development?

  16. I was expecting a new Metroid game from Retro studios for a long time, Metroid Prime 3 was a long time ago, so I was surprised not to hear of a new Metroid from Retro. I also was expecting Nintendo to make a new 3D Donkey Kong since the last one was Donkey Kong 64. I was disappointed not to hear anything about either possibilities being announced for Wii U.

  17. I think Mr. Miyamoto working on 4 or 5 projects for supervising as he always did. Those projects would be Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Starfox or a New IP.

Nintendo EAD [Legend of Zelda or Starfox or new IP] – I bet they working on a Zelda project.
Retro Studios [Metroid or New IP] – Love to see them do a Metroid game.
Monolith Games [Legend of Zelda or new IP or sequel of Xenoblade] – New IP I think a JPRG?

Those Developers are best for their game specialization. I’m a bit skeptical but excited indeed.

  18. Here is how I hope things are going. Nintendo is working on a new Zelda, Retro is making Metroid Prime 4 with the new engine they built, Platinum Games is working on Star Fox with Nintendo’s help, and Sega is working on a new F-Zero (yeah I know they are not the best but they did work on GX and Sega All Stars Racing isn’t bad). If not, than I hope Nintendo is working on a sequel to Metroid fusion with Other M’s 2.5D gameplay but with more exploration and stuff that make it a Metroid game with awesome graphics. Or even (I know this is a super long shot) Bungie makes a new Metroid FPS game. I think they could be trusted to make a good Metroid game with excellent online and offline multiplayer.

    1. Actually… That Bungie idea does NOT sound bad at all!! Lol
I could imagine the graphics, and much better voice acting (hopefully).

    2. I like the idea of giving other m’s gameplay a serious push into the direction of the 2d games, with a decent story and no less cinematic epicness.
dunno about bungie though, I can’t imagine it

  19. I really hope they another Metroid. The Wii U GamePad can perform so many functions, it could change this series just like Prime did on GC. I bet a lot of people would like Retro to do it, but I think it will be a good idea to see what another studio. I hope Retro is working on Star Fox. Leave luck to heaven.

  21. Though other M was brilliant I’d say retro studios should develop it because the prime series was probably my favourite Metroid experience.

  23. I hope someone like Crystal Dynamics makes this one if Nintendo is still not interested in developing it. I’d really love a third-person Metroid game that plays a lot like Tomb Raider Legend.

  24. I have to say one idea in my head: first of all do the first person view like prime, second, a melee attack! Maybe samus could punch with her left hand, then she could get an upgrade like “sonic punch” or something that breaks a certain material.

  25. I honestly would like to see a new metroid. I don’t want this to be a scroller, or in first person. Maybe second person?

Also, I don’t think other M is as bad as everyone says it was. Sure, the story was terrible, Samus’s character was laughable, etc, etc, but, it shouldn’t be to the point where it shouldn’t be aknowledged even though it ruined the story.

Also, I think Retro can take advantage of the wii u pad, and push the system to it’s limits, and make it amazing just like the prime series.

But, who knows. We don’t even know if there will be one. For now, lets shoot some zombies on the wii u, play some mario, and get our wallets ready for a new super smash bros.

  26. well samus has her history too, also other M plays in her early stages (I mean adam is still alive so, yeah), thus I don’t see a problem, I just imagine all this other M crap that happened to her strengthened her character, so she turned out how a lot of people want her to be, like in prime.
although we don’t have actual proof one way or the other, since she wasn’t very talkative in the other games.
so how should she be like? “oh yeah, gonna kill some spacepirates and play hopscotch in their innards”? would seem rather plain to me.

I liked the new approach as much as the fps thing retro did witch prime one and the rest.
I don’t understand the hate, because basically it was another metroid game and for that we should be grateful at last

  27. I think it should be Retro. Metroid Other M was great! But, Samus was just to emotional which most of us did not like about that. The Original Samus in the Prime series gave us that vibe of how strong and tough she was and It made the game interesting. A lot of us enjoyed that it was a first person shooter, and the fact that it was female. It makes Metroid seem unique. I have no problem with Samus talking or her background story being involved a little. What we don’t wanna see is her emotions get in the way of her adventure, like it seemed to do so when she encountered Ridley in Other M. The Prime series was personally my favorite because it had such great adventure to it. In the Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, it was VERY unique to see other bounty hunters, and how they played such a big role in the game. The bosses/ Enemies in the Prime series were unbelievably terrific! Some of the smaller bosses from the original Metroid games were in there which was fantastic to gamers that notice such small detail in Metroid. Of course, Other M had it’s similarities too. We enjoyed the first person shooter because it’s all about discovery. The Prime series had tougher bosses unlike Other M. In Prime after you defeated a boss, you had that relief that you accomplished such a task and you were usually awarded with a new Item. Most of us did not like that Adam had to “Give Permission” to Samus to use weapons. Yes, she did this in repect of Adam letting her be apart of his group and carry out the mission in the bottle ship, but It was very disappointing and annoying to see Samus take orders as an independent Bounty Hunter. The Prime series was interesting because there was such a war between worlds that ended in a great way. Space Pirates, Phazon, and the Galactic Federation were all main factors in the Prime series. And of course we can’t forget out dear friend Dark Samus. The Birth of Dark Samus was amazing. After Samus defeated Metroid Prime, it caught onto her and stole her Phazon suit, creating a similar copy of Samus. In Metroid Prime 2 Echos, Samus Discovered that Phazon was becoming more of a problem, and spreading through the galaxy like a virus. She encountered dark Samus for the first time also discovering a battle between light and dark worlds. In Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Phazon is now becoming a resource to all living. It’s used as weapons and enemies are morphing into it using it as a weapon. Dark Samus continues to evade the world and Finally is defeated by Samus herself on planet Phaze. Retro had created such a great developing game from start to finish. It showed Samus that friends like Rundas, Gandrayda, and the robot guy who I forget at the moment were there to help. That the galaxy needed some help saving, and that it was worth fighting for. As for Metroid Prime Hunters, I wasn’t as pleases… although it had nothing to do with the prime series, It was quite a good story. Samus unseeking a secret message, while other bounty hunters hinder te journey. But again we LOVE seeing other bounty hunters. At the end of Metroid Prime 3’s 100% ending we see a ship that look SO similar to Syluxs’ ship. It would be Amazing to see a sequel to to Hunters on Wii U, WITH MULTIPLAYER MODE, ALONG WITH WIFI! That is another thing we loved about hunters was multiplayer. Though it was very difficult to play on DS with such a small system, Make this multiplayer mode for 3DS and or Wii U. In conclusion, Retro did a terrific job with Metroid, and I would like to say thank you to anyone of NIntendo who reads this and takes it into Consideration. We love Samus.

Sincerely, Your Average Metroid Fan from the US.

  28. they could make it like all of the metroid mothers all made gave their power and made another metroid mother and lock that one away before they died and now samus must go and find it on zebes in a 2d and 3d gameplay but who knows

  29. the next one shoul be that the metroid mothers made another metroid mother and released it on zebes and before samus destroyed the metroid mothers they gave that metroid mother thier last bit of power so now samus must go find that mother destroy it before it reaks havoc on the world and destroy the metroid race once and for all.
