Wii U System Update Available Now

wii_u_console_whiteNintendo today released a system update for the Wii U. Once you update your console, Nintendo says further improvements to its overall system stability will have been made. Nintendo made it clear that this update, which updates the system to version 2.1.3 U, is not the system update that Nintendo previously announced in a Nintendo Direct, as that one is scheduled to arrive in April and is supposed to add new features and further improvements to the user experience.

  1. Hopefully one of these days they’ll release an update that fixes its wi-fi range… which is piss poor. Every one of my gadgets has a perfect internet connection in my living room… except my Wii U. I have to place the damn thing a couple of metres beside the router for the wi-fi to work -__-

      1. Not really. There are always some devices that have issues that aren’t noticed in manufacturing. Mine is probably farther from the router than that and it’s fine. *shrug*

        1. I agree, the old 360 you had to pay for a wireless adapter, not true in the new 360. The Wii U is the complete opposite….you have to pay for an adapter if you want wired lan. Same went for the wii. Bottom line…Xbox messed it up at first but corrected its mistake. Nintendo screwed it up on both the Wii and the Wii U..

          1. Except you’ve missed out on one detail, Steve-o. Nintendo may have screwed up on the Wii U, but they’ve FIXED the situation. The Miiverse is one of the problem that was fixed. The long loading times when playing a physical disc game have been reduced slightly. Get your facts right ans straightened out!

    1. A couple meters? That doesn’t sound normal. I think you should check it out. Mine connects and it’s about 12 meters away from the router.

      1. Yeah I know, it’s got to do with the fact that there’s a wall between the router and my living room. It’s not a problem for any other gadget (even my original Wii has a connection), but it does seem to be a problem for the Wii U.

          1. OK, I’m started to get worried… and I live in Peru, so I’m not even sure where I should take it for a repair… :S

              1. Nintendo support in any other parts of America that is not USA and Canada? I do not think that thing actually exist

            1. Don’t worry too much man, you’re not the only one. My Wii U had some wifi problems as well. Usually, whenever I pointed the back of the console in the exact direction of the router, it worked perfectly, but obviously doing that is tricky without stationing the console awkwardly. However, I actually found that it would only have these issues when my PC was on, which made sense because my PC uses a wifi adapter, and is stationed right in the path between my Wii U and router. So yeah, wireless interference. So whenever I use my Wii U, I make sure my PC isn’t turned on, and it works fine. So it may actually be wireless interference that’s causing the problem. Do you have any other wifi devices stationed near your Wii U, or in between it and the router, like a PS3 or 360, or a wifi computer? If so, just make sure it’s off. If you have a 360 or PS3 stationed next to it though, you may need to unplug them. It’s not just the Wii U that has wireless interference issues, issues like these are very common with pretty much every wifi enabled device. I found the same thing was happening to my smartphone when my PC was on, couldn’t get a signal worth a darn, even if the router was in the same room. But then my phone sucks. lol

            2. just get a wii ethernet adapter and connect it directly to the router. wired is always faster than wireless no matter what device you’re using

            3. Maybe the ones who import consoles / games in your country? That’s at least the case with Norway, although I do it via GameStop / the store I bought my console.

          2. I don’t think there is. My Wii U has the same problem. Which is weird, cuz my wii connected fine. My Wii U has to be closer to the router however, or it won’t pick it up at all.

        1. Or maybe it’s a problem with the range of your router, just saying. Because I had to buy a new router in order to play online my 3DS and WiiU. I got disconected a lot with my older router, and I even thought my consoles had wi-fi problems.

    2. Make sure you have an N router. My Wii U gets online no worries in the next room through a wall about 10m away.

      1. Well, the weird thing is that it DOES connect.. in a sense. I mean, the connection test is successful but when I try to play online, or maybe enter Miiverse or the e-shop I get an error message.

        1. My Wii U does the same exact thing. When I go into the Wii mode I get Internet perfectly fine, but when I switch back to Wii U mode I get an error message when I try to use any software that requires Internet. Does anyone have any solutions?

          1. Nintendo support in any other parts of America that is not USA and Canada? I do not think that thing actually exist

            1. Yes it is call 18002553700 and tgey will tell you where to call or send your wii u for repair north america nintendo is in charge of centralamerica…yhablan es espanol tambien por si necesitas ayuda en espanol

        2. I used to have the same problem. But moved the console (further away from the modem) and it works perfectly. Maybe there is something blocking it’s signal from its current location.

        3. sounds like what was wrong with mine, turns out from where my wireless router was behind the computer monitor it interrupted the signal enough to cause connection problems for my wii u. so try to move it a little bit and see what happens

    3. That may just be an issue with your router or Wii U, because my Wii U is on the other side of the house to my router, at least 10 metres away.

    4. Very strange. My wii u is on par with other wifi hardware with really good range. I have no problems so far.

    5. You maybe should consider that There are some compatible issues between ur console and router.. Dont know which router u own but cheap or old ones can behave odd. Try to update Its firmware

    6. The Bullet That Killed You

Sounds like a router incombatability to me. I got wifi to work downstairs with my wii u.

    1. Well that certainly would be great. I would just like to know more details about this update beside the “overall stability” thing.

  2. Inb4 sly cooper says someone is going to bite off my ochinko …..

What a fucking dick that guy is and all the other trolls for that matter. I’m a nice, reasonable guy . But I would probably shoot that guy and some of the other trolls if I had the chance.

    FUCKING POW!!!!!!

      1. I know but my point remains. I litteraly would shoot the guy in the dick right now if I had the chance. And I wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Wait….. I’ve killed hundreds of flies!

          1. That’s what your mom said when I banged her hard that’s when you where born but you were the biggest mistake so I left you ugly ass skank of a mom sorry son but I hate you but don’t worry we can still be friends(not really) HAHAHA XD

      1. What ? I just said I would shoot the guy. I didn’t say I would hesitate.

What part of ”FUCKING POW!!!!!” made you think I wouldn’t shoot this guy ?

      1. I know. Some of them are funny , the ones who don’t go overkill. Sly cooper is like Cancer that has managed to get access to the internet.

          1. indeed. It hurts to my brain to even contemplate what goes through some of the spam trolls minds….

        1. You don’t know how bad is to have a cancer, if you did you wouldn’t be talking about it openly like that just because the internet does.

          1. I didn’t say I did know what it would be like to have cancer. I was simply saying that That guy is like Cancer that has learned how to type.

          2. Believe me man, I hate people using cancer as an insult or talking about it openly just as much as you, but I do see what Nintedward is saying.

            1. Yeah , thanks jellybean! I wasn’t wishing Cancer upon anyone. I was simply saying that had cancer actually learned how to type a comment , Sly cooper would be your answer.

hey , My grandad died of bowel cancer. Terrible stuff…..

              1. Bowel cancer… I didn’t know that existed. There’s cancer for everything these days :'( it sucks.

  3. Yea, that thig really have made “improvements to the user experience”, now I can’t put the gamepad further than 30 inches away of the console without this lose the connectivity with the console.

    WTF Nintendo.

Someone else have suffered of this problem?

    1. I’m dying of nerves here, someone know what could create such a big interference between a console and a gamepad even when a gamepad is mere inches away?

      1. My sympathy to you , but 30 inches from your consoles ? that’s like only 3 penis’s away in length… Something is wrong with your wiiu , My gamepad does about 40 penis’s….

        1. wut?? 3?? 2 maybe?
or we using japanese units of measurement?

and I would like to swap gamepads with you, mine starts to have problems at about 25-30 penis’s , though it might be the walls, junction box and other wireless activity in between?

    2. Interesting… I performed the update and the gamepad still worked on my couch which is about 15 – 20 feet away. I have used it in other rooms about 30 – 40 feet away in the past.

  4. It’s a good thing that the Big N is fixing the improvements of the U’s stability thanks to the firmware update. Next month’s improvement will be worth the wait also.

    1. This “anonymous” is a friend of mine on Xbox lol. Im talking with him right now lol. He just wanted to troll cause he thinks its funny. He actually loves Nintendo like us.

    1. Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3… I hope the game is alot better than the title. Not that I care really.

      1. Have you played the others? It’s actually a really cool game if you like Naruto… or 3D fighters.

  5. Is anyone else having this issue: when you log onto the Wii U homepage and where MIiverse is, there should be a bunch of icons for games right? Batman, Mario, Scribblenauts, Nintendoland, etc. But for me it shoes generic NINTENDO miis talking about online, etc. I can’t get a fix.

    1. The same thing is happening for me. I’m not sure what’s causing it but I don’t really mind anyway.

    2. Yes I had that and Nintendo did not have a fix other than to delete your Mii and create a new one and associate it with your Nintendo ID. It was that way for a couple weeks and then it went back to normal without me doing anything.

      1. Having the Nintendo Mii’s in your plaza means you’re not connected to the internet. Restarting the Wii U might do the trick, or else you might wanna check out your internet settings

  6. Great news arrives when you least expect it. With the arrival of Monster hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego city undercover and Néed for speed most wanted. Even Spiderman needs this update, the Wii U is shaking up remarkably and most singularly to were we knew it would be.

    1. The OS is now consistent; plus it stabilizes some rushed ports, i.e AC3. It’s good since we have some major games releasing this may.

  7. Does anyone else think that there should be a community in the Miiverse dedicated to technical support?

  8. Why didi the uses on the demos I have go down after the update, does anyone know what the update actually does?

  9. Where is zen pinball 2, it was supposed to be released in NA in Feb and still no word? Anyone hear whats up with it?

  10. Least they done an update anyway. Still got loads of time to improve and we got some pretty OK games this month so more things to look forward to :).

  11. the update is nintendo telling wiiu its not next gen because some goofy fuk in the industry said so wiiu will return itself to the box and then the store and nintendo will send you a letter stating as wiiu aint next gen there all going to kill themselves on youtube in a mass japaneese sward fall on thing

and sony will return to glory all that DUALSHOCK 4 GLORY ltfol

    1. Why are your comments so two-faced? One comment supports the wii u, or acknowledges is, then the next comment, THIS.

      1. its only when its set to 1080p on wii mode, maybe its beacuse im playing on a to big of a tv but when i set it to 720p it goes away, they need to fix that or just have wii mode be set on its own setting instead of me changing it everytime

  12. I can’t help it… I hear about PETA, I remember the way they were shown in South Park… These guys always talk about things like they were the worse in the world… Geez…

  13. The Bullet That Killed You

Sounds like a hax check to me. I think I saw a homebrew exploit somewhere, so yeah, I think it’s a hax check.

  14. Here is little comparison: Power on to desktop and stopping game to desktop.
    Wii u: 23.5sec 19.5sec
    Ps3 : 27.9sec 16.3sec
    X360: 29.5sec 14.7sec
    amiga 1200 : 4.3sec 6,6sec
    Maybe amiga is next gen?
