Road Rash Spiritual Successor Confirmed For Wii U

Dark Seas Games has announced that that they will be porting Road Redemption to the Wii U, in addition to the already announced PC, Mac and Linux versions. Road Redemption is a spiritual successor to the motorcycle combat/racing series Road Rash. Here’s what the team had to say about the Kickstarter funded game.

“We believe that the Wii U is a great fit for Road Redemption. The tablet-style gamepad has great potential for local multiplayer gaming without the need for a splitscreen, and we hope to see more developers taking advantage of this potential. “

“Nintendo has reached out to independent game developers by wholeheartedly embracing the Unity 4 gaming engine for Wii U development.  Thankfully, the Wii U’s strong technical specs, specifically the 2GB of ram, will allow us to bring the full Road Redemption experience to this console.”

    1. No, they said it IS coming to the Wii U but by the looks of things the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox 720 aren’t getting a piece of the pie.

Does this confirm that more than 1GB is available to devs if they need to use it ? Remember PS3 was also split into 2 pools of RAM , Video and System .

If so , suck on those chocolate salty balls Wiiu haters.

          1. Yet even with the PC’s DDR3 RAM, 3rd Party developers are still developing for it… learn you facts before you say anything next time

  2. Road Rash II was my favorite Genesis game back in the 90’s. It’s great to see an indy developer to deliver Road Redemption to the Wii U. Powered by the Unity 4 engine, this is gonna blow away previous motorcycle combat games of yore.

  3. Road Rash was the only motorcycle game that had any fun impact on me because it was just plain silly and lots of fun…

Hopefully this game is even better and funnier…

    1. He basically just confirmed that. Maybe they can use the majority of the 2GB and leave a tiny bit left over to peform basic , reduced OS functions like returning to the home menu.

      1. The 2GB come in the form of 4 separated 512MB chips, so I’m guessing it should be easy to use 3 out 4 however they want, with some tweeking of the software they could probably use most of the 4th one too.

      1. I have to agree with you on the gameplay aspects of Road Redemption, Chris. Now that Dark Seas Games are planning to release the Wii U version of the rated M title coming to the eShop, this could be the second racing title powered by the Unity Engine 4.

        1. I’m just saying, also notice how i mentioned in my last comment that the gameplay look like a lot of fun.

      1. As much as I loved the hilarity of that video, I didn’t really see a noticeable difference between it and the road redemption video. Not one that affects my perception of the graphical quality, anyways.

      2. @Chris..Please keep in mind that the graphics will be a lot more cleaned up upon release. Glad you liked the gameplay. Me too!

    1. Graphics will most likely be a little more polished than this for the final release. This is the Kickstarter trailer after all, meaning that this game is or was a work in progress at the time of the above video’s release.

        1. Yes I did I was just commenting on the fact that those graphics weren’t fully refined and indicative of the final product, at least most likely.

  4. Did they just say the Wii U has strong technical specs? Damn, either they missed the PS4 reveal or they’re not as demanding as major third parties like Epic.

    1. Don’t undermine our machine!

It may not be as powerful as the machine Sony Dominion is releasing later this year but it’s certainly powerful enough plus the unique way of playing it…

  5. Never played the original but I watched the video and it looks AWESOME!
    Great indie support for Nintendo!
    When is it coming out?

  6. I loved Road Rash and will be getting this as soon as it comes out. I wish someone or anyone(Nintendo) could pry away Battletoads and Banjo-Kazooie and remake those games. I also wouldn’t mind seeing remakes of Blaster Master, Arch Rivals, Contra, Adventure Island, Double Dragon, Blades of Steel, and Quackshot starring Donald Duck to name a few.

    1. Altered Beast, Toe Jam and Earl, Earthworm Jim, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Ecco the Dolphin, Legacy of Kain, and Chakan games would also be nice to see.

  9. The following time I read a blog, I hope that it doenst disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my choice to read, but I truly thought youd have one thing interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you could fix in the event you werent too busy in search of attention.
