One of our readers Anubis has received a response from Nintendo asking whether there will be an ambassador program, similar to that of the Nintendo 3DS, for those Wii U owners that bought the system at launch. As expect, Nintendo of America says there won’t be an ambassador program to compensate those who purchased a Wii U at launch.

Thank you for taking the time to write with your questions regarding a Wii U Ambassador program. The Ambassador program is only available to any Nintendo 3DS owner who purchased their system before August 12, 2011 and there are no plans for a similar program for Wii U.

While thats a bit lame we did at least have that .30$ for virtual console games deal going on. Still annoying that they aren’t doing an ambassador program but oh well.
How is it annoying? A products price dropped. That doesn’t entitle you to anything. You deemed the system worthy at its original price. So thats what you paid. Many others didn’t, so the price was lowered to meet demand a year later.

Because the majority of the gaming community in the WORLD are self-entitled bickering children-in-mind who think that just because they pay for games that they should be handed EVERYTHING on a silver platter at their beckon and call. Also their anonymity online further amplifies this trait since they think “I can say what I want and no one can track me down or actually do something about it!!” Just put them in front of an official and see if they are as high and mighty as their “were” online.
This is EXACTLY similar to how when most troubled children act like they could handle prison easily, but when they go through a Scared Straight-like program, they break down when it’s time for them to put up or shut up… they opt for the latter, of course.

The thing is, I DO EXPECT BETTER FROM NINTENDO THAT FROM EA, Activision, Ubisoft and even WB; now they are not.
Except Nintendo constantly reassured the $349 price was sticking around, and that it was a good enough price point to compete with other systems. Hardware gets cheaper as it gets older, that’s a given, but not even a year after release? Yeah, consumers have a reason to be irritated about this.
They are already selling at a loss…they will now be selling at a higher loss because sales are terrible. They are kind of forced to lower the price in this case. If they give out more free stuff they are losing even more money. Its only a year but they were expecting many more sales. Giving out free stuff at this point may not bankrupt Nintendo, but if they are already hurting then its a bad move to give away stuff. I got mine day 1 and don’t feel cheated. And I was a 3DS ambassador but wouldn’t have been mad if they didn’t give me the games. I was more pissed about the special edition 3DS’ released but I knew going in they would have them eventually. Anyway, point is Nintendo offers so much that other companies don’t offer like club nintendo stuff (even if the prizes are not so great) and things like that which they don’t have to do, but yet people always want more free stuff. If you really care about nintendo, then support them and understand they make mistakes that can’t be reversed. If you don’t then sell your wii u and get something else. Or keep your wii u and enjoy it through clinched teeth. Just don’t expect hand outs cause last I checked life doesn’t work like that…

Think of it this way: if you buy the WW bundle, it’s $50 + a free game or it’s like saving $100.
But if you bought the regular Wii U bundle, u got Nintendoland, which is a 50$ retail game, exactly like Wind Waker HD. I realize that Wind Waker is probably a better game and has more worth of gameplay, but financially, it’s not a difference.
It’s not a big deal. However, for now on I will be waiting a year or so to buy future consoles.

Reason we’re not getting price drop:
3DS price drop: roughly 33%
Wii U price drop: roughly 15%
Since a 15% price drop isn’t that much for a one year old device, we don’t get any compensation. When the 3DS launched, it got a 33% price drop only a half year after it released.
I wouldn’t say that I don’t like free games, (who doesn’t) but Nintendo hasn’t really damaged the current Wii U owners as much as they did for the ones who had a 3DS, therefor it would make no sense for them to give us something for free that they could have soled to us, and get money from.
However, if they could at least give us one free game, that would make me and a lot of people happy, but it is’t a financially smart move.
Sad, but it is what it is. Early adopters are subject to things like this. It’s only $50 tho.

Well they kinda did give us an Ambassador’s program in a way in that we get 10% back on games bought online until the year 2014 and we got those couple of VC games for $.30 Something that people who buy Wii U in a couple of months won’t be able to take advantage of.
In a way for me we already had one in the form of the 30¢ nintendo/super nintendo games.
It’s not a big deal. I believe the Wii U Deluxe was worth its price since it was being sold as a loss in the first place.
Things drop in price over time. Not everything needs a program just because you bought it at launch. It’s time to move on and enjoy what we have.

I was waiting for WiiU games to buy, since I got this console first day. NOTHING. I will be more than happy to pirate everything they release now. I’m tired. The gamecube days I wouldn’t even have to think of pirating. Wii games were good as well. This is unacceptable to treat your customer like this. When the hacks are out, then your stuff will get downloaded and played for such poor treatment. “Thanks for the support.” You ripoffs.
Well with the celebration of the 30th year of the Famicom, that was sort of like an ambassador program so I’m not even mad.

yep. 30 cents for 30 days was a steal, so that’s something early adopters like me got. plus many promotional discounts on the eshop like the kirby buy two get one free and street fighter buy one get 50 % off the other two street fighter games (still up if anyone interested). There were tons of discounts.
Normally, I’d agree that they shouldn’t offer an Ambassador Program. But this is different. I’ve personally lost all trust and faith in the company. All those lies Iwata and Reggie spat out, things like, “A price-cut is out of the question” and that they lose money on every Wii U and won’t lose more. All that crap and then they just reduce the price $50 because everyone forced them to.
Basically, if you want to get a lower price from Nintendo, gather up a bunch of people and don’t buy their hardware for a few months, then they’ll lower it. Tons weren’t buying Wii U because they were waiting for a price-cut, a price-cut Nintendo said WASN’T COMING. And because all these people waited, Nintendo caved in.
So why should I ever buy Nintendo’s products? Why should I buy right away when they deliver garbage (shovel-ware) or no games at all (Wii U launch window)? It was the same thing with the 3DS. I’m out a total of $130 (+tax) because I was loyal to them.
Not ever again.
*Never again. lolz. Also: Why should I buy right away when I’ll just save money in 6-9 months and get a better piece of hardware (Zelda GamePad, anyone)?
