Kamiya Explains Why He Isn’t A Fan Of Zelda Wind Waker

zelda wind waker cast

Outspoken Platinum Games designer Hideki Kamiya has explained on Twitter that he personally isn’t a fan of the highly regarded The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Kamiya told fans on Twitter that he disliked the game’s often-criticized Triforce hunt and its small selection of dungeons. Kamiya acknowledged that Nintendo has fixed the Triforce hunt in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, but he says the meagre selection of dungeons is a problem.

Collecting Triforce is junk. RT @organ_guy: How come you hate wind waker? Was it to slow paced for you? The hd version is faster I hear.

I don’t think so. Also, tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo few dungeons. RT @krokounleashed: True but they fixed it in the HD version.

Agreed. RT @EarthBound9 few, simple, repetetive, unattractive… Wind Waker “dungeons” are really awful… I’d love a real remake, not a HD

    1. Well I guess one who only respects a single dictatorship for his Nintendrone country wouldn’t understand the meaning of opinions >_>

  1. He is human and has a voice……like we do, but…he does have a point with the temples. Every temple has you carrying someone or careing for someone… it should have a Ice, Fire, Forest, Sand, Dark, etc…..temples.

  2. we all have opinions, we are all humans after all, if he doesn’t like it then that’s entirely up to him, no one can dictate what he enjoys playing

  3. Well on his defense dungeons did get cut from the game and the triforce quest was thrown in instead. I don’t hate the whole game because of that, but that was one of its big flaws.

  4. Loved Wind Waker (and hope to play the remastering soon), but can’t pretend it was the perfect Zelda game. The Wii U version may come close though…

  5. I agree with him and he knows its not a real remake. Just a bs HD remaster with same mechanics, temples, sword attacks etc nothing innovative or exciting or really “new”

    1. Aunoma Sir already stated months ago that WWHD is really a testing ground for the new Zelda U to see what can work and what can’t and he wanted to add the new features he felt was a great addition…

Other than that I don’t look at it as a completely new experience…

  6. to each his own I suppose, while I think is wrong about WindWaker needing a full remake, I can see how lack of dungeons can be Negative but wouldn’t that mean that Majoras mask should be more criticized , but I digress, Kayima should at least try the game, he may like it

    1. The dungeons aren’t the focal point of Majora, Waker is a more “traditional” dungeon progress game.

…But then again you could argue that the insane number of time wasted on changing the wind direction is the real focal point of Waker -_-

  7. I agree with what he says to a degree, though I think there are also some real admiral traits to the game as well, such as the supreme exploration and the technically impressive massive open world. As Kamiya is doing so much work for Nintendo and Wii U at the moment, it would be ideal if he kept this kind of opinion to himself though. To say it days before the remake’s launch is really unhelpful.

  8. He does have a point though. Wind Waker still has one of the smallest amount of dungeons in the Zelda series. Majora’s Mask had less but that wasn’t the main focus anyway.

Granted, I think Nintendo gave WW many good improvements for the Wii U version, but I can understand someone feeling miffed by the lack of dungeons. I still kind of wished they could have given us the cut dungeons from the original, but improving the Triforce Hunt and creating a faster sailing method were good improvements.

  9. So, what’s the big deal? If he doesn’t like the game, I really don’t care, that’s his own personal opinion, and his opinion is not going to change mine.

  10. I love him to death, and am so grateful for Wonderful 101 and all he does as the industry. I am glad he has an opinion that my be different from others but he sticks to it. That is respectable. His opinion is the direct opposite of mine, but I am glad he has one.

I also know that he is a troll sometimes though, so I don’t know how to take this comment.

  11. I agree… game needed more temples!
I would have waited longer for more temples to be added… the game so needs underwater temples to explore.
    :D

  12. Although I’m not sold that the graphics are THAT much better, this was a great Zelda game I was sad to find out could no longer be played on my WiiU as there is no Gamecube support.

I am glad, since I will be downloading this tonight at Midnight (US eShop) that I can experience the tweaks, and maybe I’ll change my mind on how the graphics look after playing on my Gamepad or HDTV.

Just a few hours left!!! :D

Oh, and I was one that actually enjoyed the sailing. It gave the game a strong sense of exploration and realism for me. It made the world larger IMO.

    1. Yeah, sailing seems to make or break WW for a lot of Zelda fans depending on how they take it. If they only see traveling as dead time between Point A and Point B, sailing is easily a monotonous chore. If they see it as immersion into the vastness of the world before them, the sailing has done what it was supposed to do.

This is why I’m a bit disgruntled by this new-fangled fast sailing. It’s quite ironic that the developers, in their efforts to prevent a ‘break from immersion’, have potentially made sailing a less appreciable activity. Getting the Ballad of Gales a third of the way through was already more than enough to satisfy hastiness.

  13. I realy dont like this guy. Maybe he doesnt like the game but shut the f up. His games suck in my opinion.W101 is a piece of shit. It cant hold a candle to ww.

  14. You make it out like he was respectiable when he explained why he did not like the game, when in reality he acted like a whiney bitch like usual, I really would love for this guy to get his, he acts more like a kid than a man.

    1. Are you the one who tried to run him off his motorcycle?

You really want to kill Kamiya dont you?

Too bad you failed like a little shit

      kekekekeke

  15. I could see that. His games always has a good deal of challenge and need for quick reaction time…
I would consider Wind Waker to be thr easiest of the Zelda’s… but not to a fault, like he’s implying.

On a side note, been playing the W101 and it is AWESOME. Go buy it. The demo doesn’t do it justice.

    1. Is there a way to scoop knocked down people with out having to manually pick up 3 dozen first? That broke the deal for me too tedious not enough action because “oh no! Half of my power got smack clear across the map, gotta go get them again”

      1. Well, you can run and pick them up pretty quickly… like a couple seconds at most.
Other.than that, you just don’t get hit. The game is unforgiving in that way.

  16. Ugh. Respect for Kamiya for not being afraid to state his opinion. I don’t think he is a businessman though. Nintendo is trying to revive Wii U sales through WW bundle anthis statement of his would affect that a little. Now blind Nintendo fans would rally against W101 affecting sales. Not saying he is wrong as I somewhat agree but he needs to choose his battles.

    1. Nintendo went the extra mile to make Wind Waker HD a true remake. It looks beautiful. I really am impressed with how the game is looking/sounding. 💋

      1. you must be easily impressed then cause they hardly did anything to the old game but add a couple new features and some useless features.

  17. this is why i unfollowed him on twitter super negative about everything unless its his own work lol what a pure hater….

  18. Anyone that can come up with ANYTHING bad to say about the Wind Waker does NOT know what fun is. Isn’t that what games are meant to be, fun? Well, the WInd Waker provided fun in massive doses.

    1. P.S. Since Link and Red King of Lions was able to go deep underground they’ve should’ve included optional dungeons for a optional boss and a super boss

  19. Wind waker will always be my favorite zelda game the art style is amazing and loved sailing the sea exploring different islands I wish there was a sequel were you play as the same link but older that would be cool
