Ubisoft Expected Splinter Cell: Blacklist To Sell 5 Million Copies And It Only Sold 2 Million

Information has emerged that the reasonably well received Splinter Cell: Blacklist only sold 2 million copies across all formats. The company apparently expected it to sell around 5 million, but that clearly didn’t happen. Interestingly, it was revealed that the Wii U version of the game only accounted for around 2% of sales in the US.

                1. Why is he so interested in nintendo by the way? The website is called mynintendonews for a reason, maybe his xbox is not good enough at entertainment as he claims…..

    1. not surprised the game is good but the loading time is ridiculous its like 5min of loading each segment, thats probably why it failed

  2. Seriously, every time I read an article about the wiiU and third party tittles. It’s the same sale percentages. I am starting to think this is BS and people keep assuming 2% all the time. They said the same thing about COD on the wiiU.

  3. If they actually took the time to make on pair with the other and dont do bullshit like rayman then they would fare better

  4. Funny can remember the 2% but can’t rember you posted Wii U version has less features. Rember you posted that on mynintendo news? But you you prefer to resurface the 2%.

  5. Bought it for Wii U, and while it was good made, I didn’t like it very much… If your plan, which you’ve used a long time planing and executing, fails, you have to use long time again. If you try to rush it, it becomes WAY to hard!

  6. I’m not much for the war games (COD, etc.), but I do like Splinter Cell. Even I didn’t think this one looked as good. It’s not on my must have list (obviously, because I don’t have it yet), but I will pick it up at some point. It doesn’t surprise me, though.

  7. I personally just don’t see Splinter Cell as a true AAA game series; with each installment I grew more and more tired of it. Every game is so alike, and ends up in a bargain bin after a month. I have however, somehow managed to purchase every game in the series close to launch, but never to fully complete any of the games.

    1. “but never to fully complete any of the games”
Words from a self admitted casual. A true gamer informs themselves about what games they would like to get (whether they will like it or not) and finishes each game they purchase. Casuals on the other hand just buy any game without knowing what they buying and barely finishes them.

“with each installment I grew more and more tired of it”
funny that how I feel about every installment rehash of the Mario games.

      1. He contributed to sales, so if he’s a “casual,” then I probably should thank more casuals for their support.

  8. They turned Splinter Cell into some dumb shooter, and still they are surprised that the game didn’t sell as much as they expected. Funny publishers are funny sometimes.

  9. Ubisoft should learn to keep their sales expectations at sensible levels.

5 million units for a new game in a series where the best game (Chaos Theory) sold 1.1 million units.

And considering that Blacklist was a not a good game, 2 million is absolutely remarkable.

  10. Well actually Blacklist was a great game with Good Reviews everywhere, the Wii U version on the other hand was very poor with slow loading, no offline co-op and no texture install.

I loved the game and am part of the 2%, but lets not say this is a bad game when it was very good!

They may have overestimated, but global sales of 5 mil are not that bad when you think 2.5 mil in US and UK and the split that into 3. Thats only 830,000 per system in UK and US for a game rated above 85 on most credible review sites. With massive install bases on the 360 and ps3 its not over expected, but the release date just before GTA ruined most companies.

    1. Disagree. It’s a bad game.

If you take away the Splinter Cell name from it, it’s an average game, at best. Worth playing probably, but certainly not worth full price.

As a stealth game, it’s bad.

As a Splinter Cell game, it’s absolutely horrendously awful.

  11. 2% is about right, in fact it’s great sales for wii u, remember there is a thing called install base:
    PS3 80M 48.48%
    XB 80M 48.48%
    WU 5M 3.03%

  12. Between horrible loading times, and next to unplayable online,
haven’t found time or will to play this game.

I was excited for this game, when I thought I could play local coop with one player on gamepad, but that was a huge opportunity they missed.
But I guess between gamepad functions and time constraints, they didn’t have time to optimize the game for local coop for Wii U.

  13. Even if SC:Blacklist sold 20% or more on the Wii U or even more, it still underperformed on all current consoles showing that the series has lost its appeal to the mass market. That in itself is real story, not the fact that it sold 2% on the Wii U, because this article would not even exist on this website if the game was not on the U.

Pushing the fact it sold 2% on the U has little to no relevance whatsoever. The consumer has spoken and found the game lacking for whatever reason. It was not even necessary to add any percentage about Wii U sales as it has actually nothing to do with the actual issue at hand.

    The Article should have said
Splinter Cell: Blacklist underperformed on ALL consoles!

Now the other question at hand, why did it underperform…? Can you answer that one?

  14. Even if Splinter cell sold 1 million on the WiiU alone, Ubi would still find some weird, distorted reason not to bring the next iteration in the franchise to the WiiU.

  15. it may be interesting but not that surprising considering that ubisoft didn’t bother to include local multiplayer

most of the people who’ve had a choice between wii u and another platform probably chose that other platform even if they didn’t really plan on using local multiplayer

  16. LoL Sickr i wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t use different names to troll your own site. Given your little ‘i don’t want to appear biased’ comment. This is nothing more than a tabloid news page and the marks from both sides are just too ignorant to see this. Open your fuckin eyes, people. He’s playin you for saps and you seem more than happy to let him. Idiots.
