Nintendo Explains Why NES Remix 1 & 2 Isn’t On Nintendo 3DS

NES Remix series director Koichi Hayashida has explained to IGN exactly why the company decided to bring the series to the Wii U, rather than the Nintendo 3DS. Hayashida says that in order to get both the effect and value, they needed to have more machine power.

“One of the easiest ways to answer that is to say, ‘I was working on 3D World, which was developed on Wii U. So I was already familiar with the system’s architecture and developing for that platform lent itself to the early stages of the project. But, if you step into the shadows a bit more, in order to accomplish what we wanted with NES Remix, and get the effect we wanted out of it and the value that we wanted it to have, we needed some more machine power.”

“I think the Wii U offered that up for us pretty easily, and it just would have been more difficult to do it for the 3DS. I think that’s really the answer,” Hayashida explained. “It’s just that the Wii U had the machine power we were looking for in order for us to build the software we envisioned from the get go.’

          1. you said it, 27 years old games that are not playable on today’s console. Last of Us is almost 2 years old and PS4 is supposed to be backward comparability to PS3. Exposed.

          2. Last of Us on PS4 is not a rehash. It’s for people who haven’t played the game yet. And I just so happen to be one of those people. I’m not getting this game. The only thing that interests me at this point is Mario Kart 8 which I’m getting day 1 to test out.

          3. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

Yet your still playing rehashed Naruto games that are too inferior to play on a PC as well as playing a low end PC. Exposed.

            1. Actually, Naruto UNS3 is on PC and that game is pretty good. But it’s also the only one I care about in the series…

        1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

And it will be a borefest like Witcher 3 and still be superior on PC than your underpowered wannabe PCs.

        2. This is just a big lame excuse. I think you don’t need a lot of horse power to run like 32 bit games Nintendo. Use some common sense! Hell, I bet they could put NES remix on the original NES lol

          1. I meant 8 bit games, sorry guys got confused! Still, 8 bit even needs LESS horsepower! This is really outrageous. I couldn’t care less about if it was on 3DS or not I’m just pointing out the fact that Nintendo should really strive harder at what they are doing and not make up lame excuses!

    1. I think this is a load of BS. How much f****** power do you need? These are NES GAMES. Not that I care anyway. I’m getting MK8. -_-

    1. How does that make them incompetent? I think it’s good cause the WiiU needs more gsmes, even if they’re just eshop games like NES remix. If it came out on 3DS, people would be like “Oh Nintendo are not competent they only support the 3DS”.

        1. That doesn’t make them incompetent at all. They design their games around their hardware as it is. So it’s not like they wouldn’t know how to do it. If he was working on Wii U at the time, then the way that system worked would have been in his head so, therefore he can put the game directly p to Wii U.

Don’t forget 3DS hardware and Wii U hardware aren’t the same.

          1. Not to mention that both systems use completely different instruction sets as well.

One uses PowerPC 1.0 and the other uses ARM V6

          1. Not to mention they’re both consoles/handheld made by Nintendo and had been worked on for over 1 and a half years (3 for the 3DS). It should not be difficult for Nintendo and no excuse can deny that.

      1. That’s not the point, Nintendo making an excuse that nobody will buy into was incompetent.

They could have ignored the question altogether and we’d be none the wiser or just come out and say we wanted to support the Wii U as the 3DS is doing fine without it… While that might upset a few people it would make business sense unlike this sorry excuse!

            1. jesus christ lol, have you even played naruto, or are you one of those “hipster” kids that hates naruto for being a really good fighting game and hate the anime because they took out the anime

you never even touched the gamecube titles at all

              1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

Naruto Clash of the Ninja and Ultimate Ninja 1-2. All boring, also I’m amused to where you got the assumption that I am a hipster? And because I said “rehash”, doesn’t necessarily mean bad, it’s decent, but not nothing really special.

You never even had a second thought to really think deeply about who you might be talking too.

They wanted to make a quick release and they understood the Wii U’s architecture better. Makes sense to me. I’m glad they weren’t beating around the bush about the 3DS’ power. While I haven’t seen what NES Remix looks or plays like, I can’t imagine it’s that power-hungry, though.

    1. Thank you for actually taking the time to analyse what the guy said. I agree with you.

He said that he worked on 3D world and was familiar with the WiiU. He clearly said it was easier for him/them to do it on the WiiU for that same reason.

“One of the easiest ways to answer that is to say, ‘I was working on 3D World, which was developed on Wii U. So I was already familiar with the system’s architecture”

The other part about power most likely means that in order to achieve the same performance and features on the 3ds it would require some extra work. Maybe more coding or optimization. The WiiU by being more powerful made it easier to achieve what they wanted “less work/coding/optimization”.

  2. It’s funny that Nintendo want their devices to work in a similar way to Apple’s in the sense of, Get it on one, play it on all others. Yet they continue not to try and give more functionality between the 3DS and Wii U.

  3. So you mean to tell me they need more power to run a bunch of short snippets of NES games…I’m sorry, but I’m not buying that. That makes absolutely no sense.

    1. nes remix is just a rehash with no achievement system and a scam. good thing i didn’t even buy the trash on my wii u.

      1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

You must really want an achievement system because your angry for not being praise for being stupid.

    2. He’s basically saying the Wii U is more powerful than the 3DS and he is used to working on the Wii U more. Hence why there is no 3DS version.

  4. The Wii U I think needed this more than the 3DS as the 3DS is doing fine. The more games that the Wii U gets, the better! :) Wii U is an awesome system and hopefully by the end of this year we will see a LOT of Wii U sales! :D

      1. SherlockWillFightBilbo

N64 remix would be much, much more difficult than NES Remix. The 3D would make the development much more time-consuming, and it might not even play well. SNES, Game Boy, or GBA Remix would work well, though.

        1. In the Iwata Ask’s of Zelda WW HD, thay stated that they already could port WW (Gamecube) to Wii U with a single click. N64 won’t be much different I guess.

  5. What I am reading is they needed the power to make the games more punchy and pack some oomph.

Although to be honest it’s. Very odd thing to say. They make it sound like the 3DS is not capable of making it run, but that wouldn’t sound right either.

If they understand the Wii Us architecture better then thats good. I mean come on, it’s not like you 3DS owners have NOTHING to play. Wii U really needs stuff right now.

      1. Good that flipnote isn’t something why any people pre-ordered 3DS. It’s not like DRIVECLUB™ (or Watch Dogs) for PS4. I hate when Sony likes to be lazy and releases only rehashes and indie games.

          1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

Last of Us and Tomb Raider, and so does your 360, which means your Xbomb will release rehashes as well. exposed.

  6. Wow. Are we suppose to be impressed that the wii u can run these monstrous 8 bit games lmao! Come on Nintendo, do you seriously expect us to believe the 3ds can run games like ssb at 60fps but it can’t run a bunch of 8 bit games?

  7. ” we needed some more machine power”

Is he telling us that the 3DS can not handle mod versions of old arcade and NES games?

  8. I may disagree in the part were he says that needed more power. Super smash bros is going to run on 60fps on the 3DS so why NES remix cannot run on the 3DS?

    1. Pretty sure it’s just the chars that move at 60 fps or something but yea the 3ds should be powerful enough for something like this.

  9. what a joke. is this the game your currently working on, funcking nes remix. nintendo is a joke to gaming industry. no way is nintendo innovative if this all they do, rehash games. really nintendo…. nes remix and all these indie shovelware games. xbox 360 and xbox one doesn’t even have this amout of indie shovelware games. first you didn’t add an achievement system to wii u ,second you made your online network barebones and a joke , third you made mario rehashes and are depending on a quick mario cash in to save wii u? if i was a non nintendo fan i would be laughing at nintendo for days lol. good thing their getting all the backlash and hate from wii u.

    1. It’s obvious you have little knowledge of what you’re talking about. Even more obvious you’re not even slightly interested in Nintendo and just were looking for a way to use “rehash” more times than you spell your name in a year.

I would respond and point out the inaccuracies of each part of your post, but you’d probably end up flaming me as you do in other comment sections.

If you want people to take you seriously, try to give more criticism than just “lmao mario rehash” and comparing them to companies who released consoles that were the same as their predecessors but handled worse and slightly more powerful.

      1. well “mario rehash” milking mario” too many mario’s” “mario respawn” what else can i really say. nintendo making all these quick mario games wont save the wii u. i dont even think any my friends or people i know would buy a wii u jist to play 210th mario game. even an old nintendo fan in my area i know said he was tired of seeing nintendo millk mario and zelda games. if you guys say nintendo is innovative why are nintendo just making nes remakes and mario games all the time.

        1. you know everything about milking, you always talk about milking…you have to suck your boyfriend’s “milk” everyday, you milkie boy

    2. In US Xbox 360 has indie section in marketplace with over 3000 downloadable games. 99% of those games are crap but there is some decent games hidden in there.

    1. That was a really poorly thought out excuse, I mean, have you seen Resident Evil: Revelations or Fire Emblem: Awakening? If those can run on the 3DS, then a bunch of NES games sure as hell can.

  10. Just because you can do something on one console doesnt mean you care to take the extra time needed to do so. If they wanted NES Remix out fast it might’ve been easier to just make it on the system with way more than enough power. Plus im sure the fact that 3DS gets EVERYTHING and Wii U has very little had a huge part in the decision, still with Wii U thirsty for games why take the time to perfect a 3DS version as well before releasing? That’d tell all 3DS owners fiending for the game there’s no reason to own a Wii U, and releasing on Wii U later would put it up against Mario Kart 8, etc. and bury it.

All that said now that it’s out and selling good they could/should totally start working on a 3DS equivalent. A GameBoy Remix or a little port or something would be cool.

  11. I usually don’t give much thought on whatever Nintendo says about things like this, but I call BS on this one. The 3DS is more than capable of running NES Remix, NES games runs on it anyways. I wish they would just say “We didn’t feel like it”, it’s a lame excuse, but it’s better than what they gave us now.

  12. “One of the easiest ways to answer that is to say, ‘I was working on 3D World, which was developed on Wii U. So I was already familiar with the system’s architecture.”

    Totally agree with you.

The part about power most likely refers to the WiiU requiring less optimization in order to achieve the performance level required.

  13. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis is a racist. He bought the inferior “white” base Wii U console because he couldn’t stand the idea of having a negro console in his room. Well sir.. Your disgust me with your narrowed hatred mind you should be ashamed of yourself!!!!!!

    1. I have the white Wii U and it’s better than black IMO. Keep it clean enough and you’ll be rewarded with the glorious shine of the console…

  14. Kurisu and Gay Commander are the 2 Faggots I slapped with my dick this month till thier nose bled

    That.bitch zorbo1234567 was the 1st victim lol 😁
Faggots no where to be found

Then we have this monkey 🐒 called Sasori who escaped out of a zoo in Lagos Nigeria ,and stole a tourist video camera and started making YouTube videos

    Lol

That’s what you call APE escape lol.Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  15. Did no one understand this? 3rd has plenty of power. Wii U however, has even more power. Obviously, you choose the console with more power.

      1. Trust me, your xbot and sonybots are just a poor man’s foreign alien term. I’m just the Doctor. Face number 12, we’ll say.

  16. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Sorry but most of the time, the excuses our empire makes are just totally pathetic…

As if these games needed any sort of overwhelming Power to be achieved…

Even the SNES would be able to run this without problems…

  17. man u people are stupid he’s not saying it can’t run on 3DS he just wants more power to make the coding much easier , and tell that sasori guy to get out before i call sakura

  18. we gotta be careful of nintendo fanboys, they are making rounds around here and making the real fans look like trash
