Legendary Super Mario Bros Movie Actor Bob Hoskins Dies Aged 71

super_mario_bros_movieHollywood actor Bob Hoskins has sadly passed away aged 71. The Oscar nominated actor, who was most famous in gaming circles for his portrayal of Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, died of pneumonia on Tuesday, surrounded by family.

Hoskins retired from acting back in 2012 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. His final nod to the silver screen was his role in Snow White and the Huntsman, but will leave a legacy of films behind such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Long Good Friday and his BAFTA award winning role in Mona Lisa.

His family issued a statement over the actor’s passing earlier, saying, “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob. He died peacefully at hospital last night surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has brought fond memories for many gamers over the years, and it was only last year it received a 20th Anniversary Screening in LA to celebrate the movie’s cult status. Loved by many, Bob Hoskins was an acting treasure, proving time and time again there was no role he couldn’t master.

    1. Not fucking funny asshole. The man just died and you dare laugh about it? I would love to hear about your love ones die so I can laugh..while pissing on their grave. How you’ll like it?

  1. Damn. :( Despite the movie being a terrible reminder of how video game movies suck since then, this guy is a good actor and may he rest in peace. :,(

  2. Wow damn. I will always remember that awesome movie called Who framed roger rabbit. He was a great actor. R.I.P.

  3. he’s not legendary for his super mario bros role though.. could have mentioned one of his other roles in the title

he was actually ashamed of having been a part of mario bros.

  5. Oh my God. Until today I never knew the same actor that played Mario was also Eddie Valiant. Who Framed Roger Rabbit has always been one of my most cherished movies, but I haven’t seen either of these movies in years and never even guessed they were the same guy…

    This is profound sadness.
    He was a wonderful man.

R.I.P. Bob Hoskins. My favorite movies of yours were Who Framed Roger Rabbit & Super Mario Bros. The SMB movie may have not been a successful movie but it was an entertaining movie for me and that’s all that matters. Even very “bad” movies can be pretty entertaining if you don’t take it too seriously.
