Mario Kart 8 Scores 89 On Metacritic

The reviews for Nintendo’s long-awaited Mario Kart 8 have already come pouring in. Mario’s latest karting adventure has received an average review score of 89 on Metacritic, based on 34 reviews. Now Gamer says that Mario Kart 8 does everything that fans would be clamouring for from a sequel, and it is very well designed. But it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. However, Polygon loved the game and said that Mario Kart 8 kept them smiling even when they lost.

  1. Its a lie that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. The only problem it has would be the Battles, since it doesn’t have stages :P

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

That is pretty lame to be honest…

But I hardly play Battle Mode anyway so no big loss for me…

            1. It’s STILL A MUST FOR NINTENDO. Mario Kart 8 have been getting mostly 9s out of 10 and two of them scoring a perfect 10.

              Get N or get out!

    2. floppy hoppy and the bullet skillet

New, what new amazing and wonderful ideal could any of u come up with that could improve this game. All the crap has been removed… the good enhanced. U fucking drive in circles, like any goddamn racer. How can u make that any more fucking entertaining. Should we add wet car wash bikini contest. Oooh mario all wet with a hose between his fat tits. There guess that will make it better. Question. Is it not enough explosions, a broken mangle body needed here and there. That will surely boost sells. Maybe next mario kart they team up with EA and Produce Mario Kart Need for Speed Fatal Pursuit Midnight Alpha bonzai feautering Arron Paul as Mario. There now its fuck perfect.. fucking fuck perfect.

  2. Saying it brings “nothing” is a silly thing to say. Apart from Mario Kart, there is no game series I know that is able to consistently improve itself for every game released, and whose newest installments are that true to the spirit of the first.

The average would be higher if these things weren’t determined by nitpicking fools who don’t pay attention to what they say.

    1. I agree. If only more developers could understand this, then I wouldn’t be so disappointed in the Battlefield series.

    2. Ya right scores doest matter.let us damage control together. All mighty N please bring us more shovelware…Nintendont

    3. Very well said. When ever words like nothing, never are used, credibility can be tossed out the window and drama queen reviewer label applied.

  3. It doesn’t bring anything new to the table? These people get paid to review games… an infant could- oh forget it!

  4. So beautiful HD, new courses, items, antigravity, YouTube connectivity, and new battle arenas don’t count? Metacritic, u cray.

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

It’s not Metacritic that said that. It’s one of the reviewers from another site that Metacritic adds to it’s overall game review scores that said it.

  5. SherlockWillFightBilbo

From what I’ve seen and played of the game, it really doesn’t bring anything new. I would enjoy it more if the camera would rotate when driving on the walls.

      1. SherlockWillFightBilbo

Not really. If it rotated WHILE you were driving up the wall it would look smoother. Or they could just give us a first-person view option like they did in Mario Kart 7.

  6. Nintendo is my Blood

    Doesn’t… Doesn’t… Doesn’t…

DOESN’T BRING ANYTHING NEW TO THE TABLE?!

Are you kidding me? They will buy every single CoD game out there, but when it comes to things from Nintendo, suddenly everyone thinks it has become repetitive

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

It’s pretty ironic how most constantly bashes our empire and yet, they are the ones never bringing any new arguments…

      1. Nintendo is my Blood

Doesn’t bring anything new pfft, hogwash, blasphemy, plain old bullshit

What was the last thing CoD did so different

        1. different weps, new gamemodes, new killstreaks…) mario kart 8 is what nintendo wants a kiddy friendly game that dont change much every gen..thats okay?

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Did you really use “new weapons” as a thing to describe it being innovative? Hahaha! In that case, Mario Kart 8 has new race tracks, some old with new designs, & new drivers that were never in previous Mario Karts.

  7. people have different ways to have fun, if they said that MK8 doesn’t bring anything new, it’s their problem. I will have so much fun with the game anyway, I will buy it in day one.

  8. to be honest I don’t understand it bring nothing new on the table it’s a kart game…. it’s not mario going to take his kart then have a gun then try to kill aliens coming from hell. Then try to conquer another planet with a small tactics team which includes all the characters from the series.

  9. it really doesn’t bring anything new. the races are still the same. same grand prix, 50, 100, 150 and mirror mode. lamer characters than the last installment. same lame battle mode. regardless it will still be a fun game. if you’re buying the game solely for the gravity mechanics then wow. the last mario kart to really spice things up was dd.

    1. sonic allstar racing transformed started the gravity shit and nintendo copy paste and change it up.you have to understand that nintendo is foucusing on Kids and casual nothing wrong with that.

          1. Like they literally copied Mario kart almost exactly and then added some shitty junk to it to make it seem different.

    2. Anti-gravity, New items, New characters, HD, New courses, YouTube connectivity, better online experience, different battle mode experience, etc. You may think some of the new features are “lame”, but there are plenty more that are awesome. They can’t really change too much without people complaining. It is a racing game (sorta). You can’t really do much to it or it will cease to be Mario kart

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Mario Kart Wii deserved a bit less in my opinion…

It was the worst in the series…

Because it was also the first Mario Kart that bored me after a while…

      1. Mario Kart Wii was the worst of the series? I think that’s a very subjective opinion – Mario Kart Wii is certainly my favourite.

  10. 89 is about as good as you could expect for a Mario Kart game. Looks to be excellent – but is it a system seller?

    1. pink0crystal0midbus

It has to be. It is the only game that was going to be able to sell Wii U’s. It is a better franchise than the 3D Mario franchise in terms of sales.

If Mario Kart 8 doesn’t sell Wii U, then no game will. That’s a fact.

  11. pink0crystal0midbus

AHHhhhh!!! The Mario Kart team made two huge mistakes. Number 1: The roster needed to be BIGGER with all the characters that they cut. Number 2: Battle mode needed STADIUMS and not tracks that they already created… it makes it look like the team got lazy or they ran out of time. Perhaps it would have been best just to not have Battle mode at all so people couldn’t take points off for a half-assed job.

They ruined a good thing here… :( Now they have to fix these mistakes in the next Mario Kart, BUT they won’t be able to ride the anti-gravity hype train, because it’s “already been done before.”

I think if they want to get Mario Kart Hype the next time around, they are going to need to revisit Double Dash…

      1. You’re probably saying it because Xbox Done had ditched the spycam while Sony had lost over a billion dollars.

      2. Damage Control Ambulance Medics

        DAMAGE CONTROL! DAMAGE CONTROL!

SIR! STAY CALM AS MY COLLEAGUE, BUBBA J. RAPEFACE HERE RUBS THE SOOTHING CREAMING ON YOUR ANUS!!

      3. What I don’t get is why come to a Nintendo site if you don’t like Nintendo must have no games to play ill enjoy my wii u and ps4

        1. What I don’t get is why hate Nintendo period, its a gaming system just like the others, Play it regardless…that’s what it means to be a gamer. Games are meant to have fun, not achievements or trophies…want achievements and trophies? That’s why they made tournaments.

  12. You can’t trust meta critic ALL the time, especially when it comes to a game like the Wonderful 101…

    1. Damage Control Ambulance Medics

Sir, it’s perfectly fine sir. Metacritic isn’t always wrong but you are right in some aspects, we’ve been on the site many times saving people from a disease called “Damagus Controlus Aids”. It’s a sad sight but we must protect the internet from damage control aids!

    2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

It takes the scores from individual reviews from other sites & adds them up into a single high review score. With that said, I’d trust the Metacritic’s overall internet score over a low score from some possibly biased site. 89 is a pretty good score, if you ask me.

  13. Who the fuck said it brings nothing new to the table? 60fps, HD graphics, new soundtrack, new courses, new remastered old courses in HD, new gravity thing, two new items, new online stuff. Seriously, what else do they want? ‘Cause COD #23234354354 and Assassin’s Creed #234345436456 brings totally new things every new game, right?
