Golden Plains Revealed As New Stage In Super Smash Bros For 3DS

golden_plains_ssbSuper Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed a brand new stage for the 3DS version. The upcoming brawler’s new stage is named Golden Plains and hails from New Super Mario Bros. 2, where the area’s chock full of golden coins ready for players to collect. But the coins aren’t just for aesthetic merits, Sakurai also mentioned that players can turn their chosen fighter into a lustrous metal if 100 coins are collected within the colourful stage.

The new 3DS stage joins a variety of exclusive handheld areas, including Lumiose City from Pokemon X and Y, as well as Tortimer Island from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Here’s what the esteemed director said on Miiverse, including exactly what type of attack bonus players will receive when the total number of coins are collected.

“New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a game where you collect tons of coins. Thus, it’s only natural that many coins will appear in this stage… Wait, is this really Super Smash Bros??

“If you collect 100 coins, you transform into a gold fighter! For a short period of time, your attack power will increase and you won’t flinch when you receive attacks. This unique stage’s name is Golden Plains and it’s exclusive to the 3DS version.”

  1. The 3DS has a lot of interesting levels and modes, hopefully we’ll see a lot of other ones for Wii U ones the 3DS version is out of the way! Getting both anyways, though.

  2. i pretty much played all the new super bros games the wii was my favorite. the wii u nsmb game was alright, but not fun. who was able to beat all the challenges in the game?

    1. I only liked NSMBU, hated NSMB2, while the original and the Wii ones where okay. Getting all the star coins and beating the star world in NSMBU was a pain in the ass!

    2. Get the fuck out, Narutard. It’s too late for you to try and fit in now when you’ve been a complete ass.

  3. No interested in the game at all, but good news for the 3 DS owner. I though the game was supposed to be release this summer…i hope the guy has stop developing the game now on 3DS and working very hard on the Wii U version and tweaking the final details cause the QA test needs to be done now if we want a release in November 2014

  4. I wonder if you get 100 coins for Peach if she turns into pink gold Peach . :P I’ve been playing to much Mario Kart…

    1. yeah, but the way they brought him back is not very exciting and is a stab in the back to rare fans.

They basically told everyone they will not waste their time with a new Conker game.

      1. Exactly. That was the reason why Jontron made this video. He was a big old school Rare fan, and MS has been treating Conker and Banjo like shit. It was especially bad when Conker said, “Almost 10 years without a new game. Guess we’ll have to make our own!”

  5. Cool! I wonder what would happen if you somehow managed to collect 1,000,000 coins on that battlefield as a special easter egg. It would definitely be a nice touch.

  6. Keep developing 3DS version don’t listen to Wii Ya”s owners he can develops 2 of them at the same time he is the god of making games

    1. lol! You know he is showing these stages for the 3DS version right now, because the Direct will be all about the Wii U version and the Smash Bros invitational will be all about the Wii U version.

He’s trying to balance it out, but really, in the end, the Wii U version is getting the most love.

  7. Didn’t we just get a stage that looked a lot like a NSMB stage? This one looks very similar except Kamek doesn’t come in to change things around and their are coins floating everywhere.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Mario Stages in Smash Bros, so it’s kind of a let down to see them being represented so heavily in the 3DS version.
