Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has explained why Nintendo decided to host a pre-recorded event for E3 rather than a stage conference. Reggie says that one of the biggest challenges is that many of their developers are Japanese, so having them explain things without subtitles can be challenging. Reggie went on to say that the whole environment of E3 has changed and people want lots of entertainment value, which they delivered in the video.
“The environment is completely changed. More and more people are looking to tune in to an event; more and more people are looking for the full entertainment value of an event.”
“Couple that with the fact that so [many] of our developers are Japanese, so having them explain the game directly is a little bit more challenging. We can do it in this type of environment,” he said, referring to a live show with a website, “but to do it from a big stage is a little challenging.”
“So for us, we think the best way to bring our message to the fans, to the larger community, is to create an event, to create something that we believe has all of the little Nintendo magic and pixie dust, and communicate that directly,”
“Through social media, we know exactly what people are saying. We know exactly what they’re feeling and how they’re responding to the message candidly, much more directly than we do when we’re present only to about 3,500 people. So for us, it really is a win-win.”
Thanks, Nintendo Commander

He’s right
He’s actually left
He left it right here
too many directions… where am i ??!!!
Between left and right
How straightforward of you
No, he’s not.
They are a million dollar corporation that is failing. If it wasn’t for the 3DS, the would be up to their knees is dog crap, financially. Getting someone to speak English isn’t hard to find. I’m amazed of the excuses fans hear, that they just nod their head to, when it’s all BS. Other companies like Sony have all kinds of foreign speakers developers. This isn’t rocket science. There’s a reason why the Wii U is failing, many many reasons, and these hilarious lines given by clueless Reggie (who is just horrible at his position) is another one.
If this was true, then they would have *never* had E3 shows in the past, now would they?
I love Nintendo, but I’m not going to excuse their mildly retarded and clueless business practices that *no one else* follows, and for a damn good reason.
Lol honestly who cares if they show their games live in a conference or in a video ? Thats the same thing, but with more people watching so whats the f****** problem about that ? And for the language thing I agree thats not a good reason because of the past conferences but if they dont want to have a traductor now and show us a long video…I dont think thats end of the world right ? E3 is not about the live conferences, its about the new games or the games date thats what E3 is for. And anyway Im glad they do a long video now instead of a conference cuz…mmmm…. oh yeah Microsoft conference was really boring as hell, Sony meh, Ubisoft meh, EA just patetic but Nintendo damn that was fun and interesting than many others ! If u REALLY love Nintendo u wouldnt care about that trust me. Cuz its Nintendo duh !
Bit bigger than a million dollar corp. They also have a huge cash reserve from Wii sales, so although things wouldn’t be good without 3DS sales, they wouldn’t be dead. Also, Reggie was just saying it’s a better way to connect with fans, instead of a slow paced conference. Was watching a prerecorded announcement that much worse for you than watching some people stand on a stage?
You sir, deserve a medal… made of platinum
Like with Sony and their stiff as hell men in suits talking about statistics
Ugh! I want to see games, gameplay, & the guys on stage actually having fun while watching someone play a demo of the game, not hear about statistics & technical jargon. This is why I’m glad Nintendo has stopped with the press conference & stage stuff and went with the Nintendo Directs for the E3 event.
The language barrier is a valid rationale, I guess.
Prease risten, we at nintendo, woud rike yu to rike our proudutkt, so we wirr make it very good for smarr chiradran, they rike mario, you rike mario, we rike mario, because, mario is money, and we rearry rike money, yoshi and kirrebeh, is arso good for you, zeruda, is good but we wirr not show it anytime soon, prease understand, smash bros has been shown a thousand times, and every day on miiverso, but a thousand times is not nearry enough, so in arr rearity, we have no games for mature audiance except x and bayonetta, which are sekond paroty gameros
Not funny, you need a lesson in humility my friend.
What an ass….
Then how does Sony do it? Then how did Nintendo have shows in the past. Quit letting Nintendo pass on such embarrassing business practices. Nintendo is going down hill for these kind of reasons, that other companies just sit back and laugh at, day after day.
Just like how Nintendo laughs at Sony’s financial troubles and Microsoft’s failure at trying to promote that shithole Kinect
Didn’t stop them in the past.
Where my wii u update at?
Love you Reggie!!!
Mmmmm
Since I can’t attend the event in person, this is more than good enough. Which other company had their CEOs Smash it out? Shoot all Nintendo had to do was show a list of the games and gameplay footage. I can decide from that whether I like the games or not. And besides we’re getting the news one way or another. And I like that they held demos and a tournament instead. Btw, who won?
People watch pre recorded tv shows so why is this different. We go to a movie theatre to watch movies.
I like the way Nintendo made it. The digital event was perfect, and was a video that I could replay so many times I wanted, because you know, sometimes i had to go back in a video to fully understand what has been told, my english is not good yet..And the video was sooo funny and amazing, I loved the fight of Iwata and Reggie, haha! I fully understand how difficult can be a presentation with japanese devs in a US event, for me, their choice is right.
The way they did it this year was superb. So many games just launched at us, one after another after another. At press conferences we would have got the same amount of content in double the time. It was twenty times more watchable than the Microsoft and Sony events.
I think the real reason most people want the press conference is because – own up to it – we all love Reggie, and the press conference is lots of Reggie. But there’s been plenty of Reggie to go around this E3, he’s gone to the Treehouse at least twice, was at the Smash Bros Invitational, and has done several interviews (as well as being in the Digital Event). We’ve been treated to plenty of Reggie, and plenty of Nintendo. Nintendo has never done such a good job of giving the E3 experience to the people at home as they have this year. It’s been very fun.
The reason people want a live presentation is because of the hype in the room. Showing a new Zelda or Metroid or Star Fox raises hype and has everyone screaming. When people watch everyone else hyped, they become hyped. Look at the Twilight Princess reveals or the Smash tourney.
no it’s reggie
Like that a logical great answer to a silly game media question. Japanese third parties in coming to the WiiU.
They could easily just get people that can speak english to do the presentation instead. Nothing will ever be more epic than the 2004 E3 where they showed off the first Zelda Twilight Princess trailer, and it saddens me that we’ll never get moments like that anymore from Nintendo.
THIS.
It’s all fair in saying that, but if you hear from the real developer you understand why they made such decisions. Plus they know exactly what they’ve been doing, therefore there are no screw up. If someone else did it, then they could screw up and make it less entertaining.
On the treehouse there was a translator. It isn’t difficult to work out.
I’d rather listen to Aonuma and being translated than someone who doesn’t really know what they’re talking about.
You mean like, holding a smash tournament instead of a press conference or something? Cause that’d be cool.
I don’t work for the press so I could really give a flying fuck about a press conference. I don’t care what the reasons were for not having one. Reggie didn’t need to explain the reasons. In fact, he wasted his time since people are still going to complain even if he did give good reasons. Just look at this comment section with a few people still mad. If you really need the hype of others to decide what you are going to buy, you are clearly just sheep that can’t decide for yourself. Play the games you like & enjoy them. Don’t bother worrying about if they sale or not. If they sale a ton of games, great. If they don’t, it sucks but all you can do is convince others to buy the game. The press can still find out what they need to know by watching the damn Nintendo E3 Direct just like the rest of us. Not to mention the other ways at the event they can find out like talking to some of the english speaking developers at the event. The press are getting paid to find out this shit. Least this way they can go home to their families and friends & talk about how they worked hard for their bosses to get the info. I swear! It’s like people want everything handed to them. Get off your ass & go find out what you want to know. Quit whining for someone else to do it for you. You clearly don’t really care if you refuse to find out the information yourself. We have the internet now. Use it!

E3 2015: Sony and Microsoft copied the Nintendo formula………
We created this universe, the unfactuals try to emulate it but fail…
Did anyone else find those Nintendo claymation segments hilarious? Sure was better than Dinosaur Office.
Actually, it was Robot Chicken, not Nintendo. It’s a comedy show on Cartoon Network if you don’t know what Robot Chicken is.

Live presentations are neat, but I’m 100% cool with Nintendo’s video presentations as well.
It’s because they’re dying. Sure, they have a cash reserve, but they can’t use it without the board of directors permission.
The board is the one who decides what to do regarding company status. If the board wants to shut Nintendo down, the CEO can’t do any but try to convince them to not. There’s also the matter of investors. If investors loose faith in Nintendo and leave, then they’re fucked.
I like the approach.
The presenters are much more confortable and the little montages with visual effects are pretty neat.
