Takashi Tezuka has said that it’s unlikely that Mario Maker for the Wii U will include a multiplayer option. Tezuka explained that the team will focus on the creation aspects of the intriguing title. He concluded by saying that they are looking into ways for players to share their wonderful creations.
Is there going to be the ability to have multiplayer/co-op like what we see in New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii U? If not, will there be different selectable characters?
“Yes, I would like to use other characters, for one, and as far as multiplayer, I’m pretty set on probably not. What’s important about this game is the creation part, and we really want to focus on that.”
Has it been hard to create a medium for players to share the courses or toys they create? Did it have to be built from the ground up or has there been something else (like a store) that has been worked on that Nintendo has been creating for other titles?
“That’s actually something that we’re working on now. We actually have a lot of different options, but we’re trying to figure out what would be the best for this game. We could use Miiverse as a platform, possibly export videos to YouTube or we can have something built straight into Mario Maker, and we’re just evaluating our options right now.”

Oh well. It seems like an excellent idea, but not everything is meant to have multiplayer. *trumpet starts to play*
Personally i hate the multiplayer in NSMB U so this is just fine for me. But turned based (like the original) would be fine
I agree. But you should see the argument ne and another guy had about Sonic. (He was a big fan lol)
so what’s the point in making a level if you yourself are going to play it?
SCREW YOU MULTIPLAYER IS THE BEST!!!!!
Cmon fanboys, defend nintendo, hahahahahahahahahah DO IT!!
Not a fanboy, but I am a boy, and I guess I am a fan. DAMNIT JIM!
why? can clearly see this game not going to be multiplayer and for a great reason so why?
You called the idea, not us “fanboys” so you’re one to talk.
Are you implying that this game is one that is not meant to have multiplayer?
Not exactly. I guess I didn’t think of that before, but I mean that sometimes it would be a wonky or not-well crafted multiplayer. I could imagine seeing that there would be some problems with the multiplayer if they had it. Lol I don’t know :P
Multiplayer would be nice, but it’s not a deal breaker.
The single most important aspect of this game is getting the level sharing right.
I can do without it
So according to Miyamoto were going to be sitting in a corner playing this game by ourselves…
No, because people can watch us sit on a couch for 20 minutes pondering a level that will end up being terrible!!!
People can still watch us with vr. It’s not like the picture doesn’t appear on the Tv screen…
Vr kinda makes u blind to surroundings, its kinda why I’m not a fan of online gaming, u can’t see, nor u can’t truly express ur self with others, I still think VR isn’t perfect yet maybe tech gets better, its really hard to express my opinion as well
You like looking around as you play games? You make a whole lot of sense. If nintendo said they were making VR, you’d be like “yeaah, baby, gimme my VR, it’s the thing i was waiting for”, but since they aren’t you’re shitting all over it.
I’m not hating on it, nor would i be fanboy about it, just don’t think its at that level, I still feel were still a long ways from it being accessible to everyone. Miyamoto doesn’t feel its a good together device, which its kinda not right now. I can really see this being more single player experience. Also developers aren’t going to take a risk on something they aren’t sure how people will react to. I think it has its benifets if used right like stuff like this
This game going to be so boring you made the the level why would you want to play it. Plus if you get stuck playing someone else game there no tutorials or guide to turn to. I know some people will like it but as for me i don’t really care about it
It is not an important issue, but it is though damn easy to include the possibility to play in multi local (as in other NSMB games), so I really don’t get why they deliberately choose not to include it.
But well, this will not prevent me from buying this game as long as the sharing/records/TT stuff is well done !
well, you know, nintendo cannot make things work together, they have to pick
strong single player or mutiplayer
offline or online
open world games or content
true innovation or gimmicks
well, they can in smash bros, but for that game they need 5,6 years and a billion studios working on it
Okay, I’m definitely still getting it, but I would love to be able to play with my family on the courses we create.
yeah, good idea, make a course and than play it yourself…WAT?
Wait, sharing videos by youtube? I’m not interested in that, I want to share levels with other players to /play/ them o_O
Lame, this would’ve been worth getting if it had multi-player.
I think the best idea for sharing would be the code system they use in the Mario Vs DK games; And if they don’t put in some way of going from Miiverse to a level, people can just put the level codes on there.
Well then ill unlikelu get it now.. :l
Multiplayer is not needed here. The game is so much based on custom levels by one individual.
If they make it possible to share created levels so that others can play them, they’ll hit the jackpot on this game.
“Multiplayer is not needed here”. You’re kidding, right? Can you name one reason why omitting multiplayer helps the game rather than hinder it?
Let me download stages to play on my own for the challenge.
If little big planet could do it why cant do this? Sorry but it is what it is.
They should have Donkey Kong as a character. Not only that. Have the levels intergrated in the game not by miiverse because i’m permanetly banned :P
Reminds me of Happy Wheels too
I really like this game already, but I hope they put cooperative play in, cooperative games are my favorite. That is why I love Wii Sports, MarioKart, SSB, SuperMario3DWorld, MarioStrikers, Madden, Halo, GearsofWar, ResidentEvil5, all these games have cooperative play.
This game is obviously made to share with people around the world so multiplayer almost becomes useless…
Can you think of just ONE reason in which sharing with people around the world isn’t feasible? If so, would you still agree that multiplayer is almost useless?
Well I was mainly talking about our empire’s point of view considering they have the habit of implementing features that doesn’t go well with the real world from time to time…
Personally I don’t care one way or the other but it would be the best if both things were present…
I’m still having a diffucult time understanding the overall point of this game. I know you can create your own Super Mario Bros. levels. But then what? What’s the point?
The point is to satisfy all the 2D Mario fans forever because I highly doubt they will ever release another 2D Mario in the near or distant future…
Meh.
You can create and share your own levels, thats enough “multiplayer” you need for this.
I don’t need multiplayer, but it would be nice to have an option for someone else to hold a controller and play stuff you’re working on without actually having to hand the gamepad to them.
