Mighty No. 9 Backer Update Provides More Gameplay Footage, Details On Playable Character Call

Mighty No. 9 developer Comcept has provided its Kickstarter backers with more work-in-progress gameplay footage and new details on playable character Call. You can check out the new version 1.5 footage in the short trailer above.

But for those interested in Call’s design, Comcept has a couple of details to share, including a special crawl manoeuvre, instead of Beck’s crouching dash, as well as the addition of a light-pink backpack. Here’s what the developer said on its Kickstarter page, where you can find Call’s animation style:

“Unlike Beck, our intrepid heroine can’t perform a crouching dash, so she’ll have to resort to this crawl manoeuvre to get out of tight spots! Or maybe into them? Maybe she could use this move to navigate cramped spaces, like ventilation shafts and such? Just one example of potential gameplay differences between our two playable characters!

“Call runs straight at danger, not away from it! The animators have done a great job of giving her movements that share Beck’s determination, while still showcasing how different she is from him. Call wasn’t built for combat, but she will do whatever needs to be done to help Beck!

“By the way… did you notice that light-pink object on her back? I wonder what that could be…?”

Comcept has also provided a neat Call vignette from Inti Creates designer Yuji Natsume, which you can see below. Can you spot any of the small changes? Let us your thoughts on how the game is shaping up in the comment section below.

            1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

              Somehing like that…

              Or as CP3O would say:

              “Machines making machines, how perverse”…

            2. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Ah you’re a Chozo, in our universe we would be enemies but in this one, Nintendo unites us all…

              1. Chozodian Emissary

Ah yes, I am in search of enlightenment. I would not engage in battle unless it was absolutely necessary. Happy to know we can be allies.

  1. Great that I backed this. If Capcom wants to ruin Mega Man at least I still get to play the games from the Blue Bomber’s creator himself

  3. My only suggestion would be some more color, the maps are always generally one main color and it looks pretty bland. Hopefully it doesn’t release that way.
