Nintendo DS Version Of Frozen: Olaf’s Quest Outsold The 3DS Version And Is One Of The Most Popular Games Of 2014

frozen_ds

Everyone loves Frozen so it comes as no surprise that the video game adaptation inspired by the movie has been a massive success in the United Kingdom. In fact it’s the Nintendo DS version of Frozen: Olaf’s Quest which has proven the most popular and has easily outsold the Nintendo 3DS version of the same game.

The success of Frozen was a bit of a surprise. We thought it’d do well. We’d done some decent movie licences before, such as Sony’s Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. We thought this one was going to be maybe a little bit bigger as it was Disney, but nowhere near the stratospheric sales that we’ve experienced.

We thought Frozen would be our last title on DS to be honest. Nintendo hasn’t been manufacturing the console for a few years, but we thought that there is a big user base our there, and there is a second hand, hand-me-down market for the old DS consoles. We launched Olaf’s Quest on DS and it’s still outselling 3DS. And we’ve got Disney’s next big film out in January, Big Hero 6, and we’re bringing that out on 3DS and DS. If you’d said to me 18 months ago you’d be bringing out a DS product in January 2015 I’d have laughed.

Thanks, Shuhei Yoshida

        1. On games i m more open than movies,i might see 1 movie a year while i play tons of games a month. Its just that i prefer those kinda movies i like a lot of action movies that dont involve police also but still most of their scenarios are crap.

      1. Like the ones on TV as of late? Doing their police duty in bringing down black folks and anyone supporting those said black folks?

      1. I hope they make those forever,i love those games. Its good to have them all like a super next gen game with the best 3d graphics and 8-bit games together.Imagine how dull would be with only 1 of those.

          Indeed…

The more variation, the better people can enjoy gaming and life in general…

Unlike Xbots and Sonyans that practically wants the same dull crap all the time…

                1. I have a feeling open world will be te next big thing this gen, given The sheer amount of sales for recent open worlds and the number of open world also announced. No complaints here though!

        1. Actually they do have taste, it doesn’t automatically make it lesser because it doesn’t match yours down to a T. You aren’t the beacon by which “taste” is judged and no one else is for that matter! And because it’s customary to do so on the lovely innernette, I gotta say that I’ve never played this game nor have I watched Frozen.

You need to get your head out of your ass and grow up.

            1. “I still don’t like how my bullshit is being called out so I’m going to call you or what you wrote a name and bask in the glory of my retort”

        2. Wow that can really be read wrong… are you using fucking as an adjective or an infinitive… oh dear, if it’s that second one…

        1. “I don’t like how you’ve called out my childish assholery so I’m gonna tell you to shut up and go away”

            1. “I’ve run out of retorts so I’m going to yawn and ask what they said in an attempt to better you, even though its painfully obvious what was said and it just makes me angry”

  1. “Everyone loves Frozen”
Sickr, I just alerted the paramedics because the only way garbage like that comes out of anybody’s mouth is through snorting 50 kilos of cocaine.

  2. Vgchartz says the game only sold 250k copies, which is far from the “stratospheric” sales mentioned above. However Vgchartz is hardly accurate or reliable… Or maybe 250k is alot of sales when it comes to these type of games.. I wonder how much money it takes to make a game like frozen on the ds?

  3. Shit……..This is just fucking lame, but then again this is the kinda crap Nintendo gets by catering to kids instead of grown ups, hell im sure this game even got more promotion than Bayonetta 2 did.

I*m having fun playing games I like, this and Disney are not included among these…

          Try again troll failure…

  4. *Facepalm* One of the most popular ganes of 2014? Is it even a good game, or was it little kids pestering their parents to buy the game for them because they liked the movie???

  5. Nintendrones: THIS is what Nintendo gets for going casual since the Wii- Trash games selling and quality third parties like Bayonetta 2 bombing hard. You guys always wonder why third parties don’t support Nintendo, yet the evidence is all there. The casual market may have helped Nintendo in the short term, but it completely destroyed their reputation in the long term

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Blaming the Nintendolings with ages 1-6 for Bayonetta 2’s “failure” is very mature and intelligent indeed…

  6. Those poor damn fools…

…Then again, I played a handful of licensed games in my childhood. Hell, my very first TWO video games that I’ve ever played were “A Bug’s Life” and “Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue”, both for the PS1. I loved both of those games so much that not only do I STILL have them, but bought a second copy of both of them when they broke on me, AND I even downloaded their ripped soundtracks.

I actually played them both on a nostalgia trip early this year.

    1. Omg, A Bug’s Life on PS1 was great. I used to play it a lot too when I was younger, so good. Another favourite of mine was Hercules for the PS1, used to love that game, and still got it. Good timesss.

    2. Yeah! I remember Toy Story 2 on the PS1. I used to play it a lot, I still have the game till this day. I loved the PS1 Harry Potter games!! They were great. I have recently bought the GC versions of them. I also loved Mickeys Wild Adventure (PS1) and Lilo and Stitch (PS2).

So were the ancient egyptians when they heard about your divine dog name and yet they decided to be tired of it and did not go…

  7. I’m SO sick of seeing Frozen advertised everywhere I go. My niece said the movie sucked because it was mostly a musical.

    1. So instead of making up your mind you’re taking the advice of another? A lot of people say that the Wii U is a failure if a console, are they right?

  8. This shouldn’t be a surprise. There are 153.8 million DS/DSi owners out there and DS/DSi is entry gaming device for kids. I personally own a DS & DSi XL. These are future gamers voting with their money and gaming for children shouldn’t just be on mobile/iPad devices. Kudos to Nintendo for continuing to offer games on the DS.
