Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D To Introduce “Feather Statues” For Saves

Looks like you’ll be able to save your game in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D any time you like due to the addition of Feather Statues. The original on the Nintendo 64 only had Owl Statues which only allowed for temporary saves. These would then be deleted when you selected it from the main menu. The method is still up in the air as it’s come from Amazon Germany description. Hopefully it will all be cleared by Nintendo in a forthcoming Nintendo Direct.

With the help of owl statues and the new feather statues, which can be found all over Termina, you can now save your adventure anytime you like

Thanks,Pablo

And all that means making the game easier for the civilian cattle because they cannot afford a little challenge and time pressure when this game is all about TIME…

                  1. Some things to consider:
                    A) Portable systems have games where you can usually play for short amounts of time(no, before you ask, a Wii U remake wasn’t nor will be an option)
                    B) Gamers overall have less time nowadays anyways.
                    C) Making the game accesible is opening it for a wider market. Being an elitist about it is why many people hate certain fan communities(also, it’s more of artificial difficulty than actual difficulty).

        1. It’s not a mess, it’s half the charm of the game. If you don’t like it, you just don’t like the game. Go olay another game.

          1. I’ve never played the game before so I’m eagerly awaiting this re release. That being said, I’ve always been a little confused by the time system. How long is 3 days in game compared to real time? I won’t have to actually follow someone for a few hours will I? It definitely sounds like a unique experience though and I can’t wait to try it out!

            1. In certain instances you will. See in MM in the case that you don’t do all the events for the plot in your three days or in order you would have to go back in time and redo them all over again. But I think each day was like an hour real time, so you have to stay on your toes. But I will tell you if you want EVERY mask you’ll be redoing things over a lot in order to get them. This is not a game for people without patience.

              1. All right, that doesn’t sound bad. I typically don’t mind things taking a while as long as the gameplay is fun. Legend of Zelda’s gameplay is typically pretty good so then I’m definitely not worried in that case. Sounds like it should be a lot of fun!

    1. That kind of breaks the game’s purpose. IMO the game is about being patient and waiting for the right time and getting to certain places before that time, if you get there early you can waste time on things nearby, like collecting rupees or getting healthif your health is low, or even doing minigames, all time events are near some sort of minigame, just choose one and go.

    2. Totally agree. People saying it would makes the game too easy or wanting it makes you a casual are being daft. If they consider standing around waiting for the right time of day to be a challenge, that’s a little concerning. Although perhaps you’d slose some of the depth of you could skip straight to the right time of day. I always found it interesting following the characters as they went to the place I was supposed to meet them.

Thinking about it, it would be similar to letting you fast travel to any grid square in wind waker. It seems like a logical improvement, but maybe it is important to have to do a bit of longer distance sailing. Surely these are ideas they considered though, so I wonder why they didn’t use them? Or maybe game designers are so set in their ways that it didn’t even occur to them not to limit the players like they did?

Well if they can’t make time for playing video games, then I’m sorry to say that they ARE casual players.

        1. You know that’s some pretty stupid logic, right? I have basically all the time in the world to play video games but that doesn’t mean I’m going to enjoy the old save system. This makes it more convenient. Like I said before, most of the people here whining that the game will be easy are still going to buy it.

          1. Ridley, the Angel of Death

Well there is more to being casual than just that. If you are in a hurry to beat a game just so you can beat it & move on to the next big thing, I don’t consider you a hardcore gamer.

    3. Ridley, the Angel of Death

I hope you weren’t one of the people dissing Skyward Sword for it’s hand holding since what you want is the very definition of hand holding. lol

      1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

It added a challenge to the limited time and something else I can’t put my cybernetic leg on right now but I know it…

        1. More than you’re just an elitist. It put annoyance and made the game more time consuming. It’s artificial difficulty at best and doesn’t go well in the handheld market(which was the only place this remake was going to go if remade, you know)

  1. I hope this is a load of bull because the save mechanic was what made Majora’s Mask what it is. It added challenge to the game. I loved having to manage my time between side quests and taking on the dungeons. Don’t make turn this game into some super casual game Nintendo

          1. You? A real gamer? Lmao that’s the best joke I’ve heard all day, man! Oh, you crack me up. You should definitely consider becoming a comedian. ;)

      1. If you’re extremely boring or lazy, I guess you can play the game without worrying about time at all. I just wont buy it.

      2. Which only makes them look and sound like COD-casual pussies. Without a sense of challenge in any game, it’ll make you bored pretty quick and feel your purchase was wasted. Would you rather want that instead fool?

        1. “Without a sense of challenge in any game, it’ll make you bored pretty quick and feel your purchase was wasted.” Then explain why I put so much time into playing Super Mario 3D World. ._. That was not a waste of money and I feel that it deserved every penny I spent on it.

      3. Your dumb ass does realize that a reviewer is just some random jackoff that is paid to pretend that their opinions are fact, right?

    1. You need to just accept the fact that there’s a new generation. Seriously I’m tired of people on this site saying “casual this and casual that” kids these days arent nearly as good at video games as they were in the 80s and 90s. You arent the only Nintendo fans here. Nintendo needs to appeal to the new generation now like how they appealed to you guys back then.

  2. Thank God! The whole save mechanics in the original was quite possibly the worst feature. It was SO frustrating!

      1. Everyone that loves the original Majora’s Mask save feature clearly has brain damage. That was one of the many reasons why I claimed for years that Majora’s Mask was the worst Zelda game I ever played.

        1. Don’t pay attention to these people. I respect your opinion. They’re just mad because you don’t like what they like.

          1. Yeah.
Majora’s Mask is actually a great game. I just hated the way the save feature worked in the original. So this news is a relief for me.

  3. As a handheld game this makes perfect sense. People play handheld games for short period of times usually rather than extended playsession and this just makes it more accessable to more casual players who could feel intimidated by the time mechanic

  4. Anyone who thought they weren’t at least going to add a different, more streamlined save function to the game on top of the old save function was kidding themselves.

It makes perfect sense. It’s a handheld game, and I for one appreciate anything that eases the ability to pick up and play.

Anyone crying that it’ll make the game easier, of course it will. It’s a remake. They’re adding features to make the game more suited to the standards of games today. Get rid of your stupid ass superiority complex and get a life. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer and has as much time to spend on games as you do.

  5. I never really cared about this feature. When I first actually realized how it works I never made the mistake to not save again before I turn off the Wii. So this will make things better I guess

  6. They can’t just change owl statues and add fishing ponds and stuff, they’ll probably have an option when creating a file for an N64 mode, or “Hard Mode” as well as the updated game.

    1. Now THAT sounds like an actual thought compared to all other comments here, an N64 mode that takes away the feathers, BRILLIANT. All other comments who take this as an insult, it kinda is, but it’s true, all of your comments are war this casual that, THIS GUY has an actual good idea and would have a good career as an idea guy. I would be amazed if Nintendo, or Sony, or Microsoft, or ANY developer wouldn’t listen to this guy. A hard mode, BRILLIANT. I’m kinda curious what others might think, what ideas, and I mean ACTUAL IDEAS, you other gamers, casual or not, might have.

      1. That’s what I also said. Take note from DKC Returns 3D on 3DS that kept the original difficulty, same can be done with Majora’s Mask keeping the original mode without feathers or whatever that casual crap is.

        1. DKCR and Star Fox 64 3D both had a mode for the original games formula, that’s where I got the idea of an N64 mode.

                1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Yes and bosses actually being intelligent and faster at attacking you…

Like King Dodongo, what a joke or Twinrova, why couldn’t they fire at the same time instead of one at the time?…

                    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

                      Indeed…

I don’t recognize anyone as a good player unless they can prove to me that they have beaten Toki going Ape Split on the Genesis on hardest…

                    2. Yeah Twinrova was a joke. She always shot 3 of the same element in a row until she lost over half her HP, then she just fired them randomly. It’s possible to beat her with two rounds of 3 jump attacks from the Master Sword (without stuff like power crouch stabbing) before she can even randomize her attacks. I know it’s supposed to be fair, but it should’ve been the more health she lost, the higher the chance she would shoot the opposite element that you had (or both), while still having at least a small chance of shooting the element that you need. The time that you had to avoid the opposite element was also way too much.

    2. It really isn’t necessary. I mean, if you need a “break” like you say, you could just close the 3DS for it to go into sleep mode. You could then go on about your business and pick up from where you left once you’re done…

          1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

            1. I can’t grow, I’m a cyborg…

            2. Why would I want to become a boring graphicwhore?…

            3. And fap like Xbots?…

            No thank you…

      1. Until your battery ran out or the game froze…
I don’t care if it’s the players fault; it shouldn’t be a concern and would just frustrate people, which would turn them away from Nintendo.

    3. They might as well add a feature that lets you start the game with every item, regenerating health and and infinite magic meter.

If I could figure this game out as a 9 year old then so can people nowadays.

    4. I never had problems with the original. If you were in the middle of something just go and slam a dam owl statue. If you are done, go back to day 1 and turn off the console.
      How hard can that be?

    5. Chummy Chimney Chonga

I hope they add multiplayer or something worth the 3 year dev time for a remake.

Multiplayer like something like a little minigame or arena game. The ds Zeldas had great multiplayer, and since them I haven’t seen any multiplayer in Zelda games.

Think about how fucking cool that would be for this game. Different colored links equipping masks and fucking each other up for triforces or rupees or whatever the goal is.

      1. If you want to count it, the Four Sword’s Anniversary Edition (for DSi and 3DS) got wireless multiplayer, but everyone needs the game and they aren’t offering it on the Eshop right now. They really should just keep it up there for free. The idea behind it was to give everyone a free gift for Zelda’s 25th anniversary.

    6. I feared something like this would happen…well gg. I don’t think I’m getting the game. Also they probably even made monsters in MH4 easier…they’ll do whateer they can these days to get more money from casuals.

    7. I’ve never played Majora’s Mask before. What is this supposed to mean? Was there no way to save in the original MM or what?

      1. In the original, there was like one owl statue per region in the entire map, whereas now with feather statues, there’s way more places you can save it seems.

      2. I played it on Wii VC and there is a way to save. There are these statues all over Termina and you hit them to save your game. After you save the game goes back to the title screen and if you come back right after, your save will be lost. If you turn off the game without saving again you’ll start from the first day again. The only way to save for real is to sing the Song Of Time and go back to the first day. After you sing the song the game will ask you to save and that’s the real way. So in other words, just make sure you hit the statue everytime you finished playing and save. After you start again DO NOT turn off the system until you hit the statue, save again and go back to the title screen. Otherwise you’ll start from the first day. It’s a bit annoying having to use a Quick Save all the time but you’ll be fine.

      3. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

And once you find and hit the statue, you could just play the Song of Soaring and fly to any statue you’ve activated and save there…

But clearly the civilian cattle masses are too lazy to even play a song…

                      1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

And I haven’t found my perfect kart either so I can’t play my best if I don’t have the best possible kart…

This is why I prefer the old ones because you didn’t have this crap…

                        1. Also to be honest, Mario Kart is pretty much 50 percent luck and 50 skill. I’m good at the game but there have been times online where I went from 1st to 8th because of the stupid items they give me like coins. While everyone else gets blue shells and stars.

                          1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Yes and the stupid coin item makes 1v1 almost impossible to win if you are way behind by some silly mistake or if your opponent stroke once…

                            1. I wish Nintendo includes an update that gives you the option to remove the coin as an item. Because it isn’t necessary. I prefer Mario Kart 8 over 7, but to be honest, 7 is way better competitive wise.

                                1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

I really hope it doesn’t break a third time, I want you around our empire no matter what…

                                  1. I’m glad they have it now. But it had better not be like last time where UPS messes up the delivery. My repair went from 2 weeks to three months because of that crap.

                                    1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

I hate UPS, they forced me to drive to Copenhagen to get my physics books I had ordered because the imbeciles were too lazy to deliver it to my home as it was promised…

And then they claimed they rang dozens of times, what a load of garbage…

                                      1. Haha. That is complete crap. XD Sometimes I feel as if UPS will only deliver your stuff the right way when they want to…

                    1. Well, the old save system is just swell (assuming you’re not playing the cancerous GC port) as it is, but this should bring some people who’ve thrown away one of the greatest games of all time on account of losing a lot of progress due to a bug or whatever.

                    2. Adding a better save feature does NOT make the game easier. It just takes away the complete STRESS that the original game caused. I remember this game stressing the hell out of me because of the save feature being so damn stupid. And like me, my niece will be thrilled to hear about this. Because she despised the original save feature as well.

                      1. But for the sake of those complaining, there should be 2 different modes. One with the old way of saving, and one with the new way.

                    3. Ridley, the Angel of Death

All the people bitching about what made Majora’s Mask challenging. xD If I ever see one of them bitching about how easy the latest Zelda games were, I’ll laugh at their obvious hypocrite bullshit. You little crybabies can’t have it both ways. You either want Zelda games to be challenging or you want them to be easy. Which is it?

                      1. Both, the ones who want it to be hard are the elitist veterans and the ones who want it to be easier are pretty much everyone else (which means tolerating a separate hard mode, at the least). Zelda appeals to many people, both elitist and casual.
