Super Mario Galaxy 2 Wii Will Access Original Save File If You’ve Done System Transfer On Wii U

Here’s something neat from Nintendo, Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii U Virtual Console will access your original Wii save file if you transferred your data from Wii to Wii U. Kinda handy if you were in the middle of completing the game on the Wii, but never got around to finishing it. Let me tell you, it’s well worth finishing if you get the chance.

Thanks, Shuhei Yoshida

          1. I have the download and I believe that it does still go into Wii mode, you just don’t see it. I think that it does it in the background as the game takes longer to get to a title screen than any of my Wii U games. It is nice however that it does it for you.

          2. I think it would be very, very sad if there really are people out there who are willing to spend 10€ on a game they already have, just so they won’t have to go into Wii-mode anymore.

            1. Wish they updated the graphics to 1080 or 720… but no since this is an attempt at a cash grab (don’t attack me people)

      1. I did correct myself Stranga. I was using my phone. I know how to spell. Look at the time I replied to my own comment 11:26pm. A few seconds after I realized the typo. Too bad the site does not have an edit button. People replied to my first comment that is why my correction was pushed away. So yeah, observe first before you criticize so it does not make you look stupid, ok? Good.

  1. Good to know but i’ll still need to start a new save file. I 100%’d this on Wii during a busy weekend and then gave it away. It’s not one of my favorite 3D Mario games but I still couldn’t resist buying it again for only 10 bucks. *shrugs*

      1. This is definitely a good thing, $10 (or even 20 honestly) is a great deal for any of these titles and opens up the door for really hard-to-come-by and thus expensive games to be enjoyed by everyone. I got SMG2 day one, but never got to play much of Punch Out and could never find any of the Metroid Prime games so i’m looking forward to the next few weeks. Prime Trilogy goes for like 130 or so online. 10 bucks is epic. Shame they probably won’t be bringing Xenoblade Chronicles since there’s a new 3DS port on the way.

  2. I have it on wii and I downloaded it from the Eshop cause why the hell not? Lol its cool to have a downloadable version on my wii u if I ever needed/wanted it. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 I honestly consider the greatest games of all time! I have a feeling Miamoto is giving us a hd galaxy. I just know it!! Lol XD

          1. The DS remake actually made it better and longer in gameplay.

The reason why it was so popular and legendary in video gaming achievement was because it took a huge step of the franchise in not just visuals but gameplay itself, opting from side scrolling to full 3D open world-ish gameplay with Star collecting objectives plus also broke the “Princess Peach being kidnapped in every game) tradition where Bowser actually imprisoned her within her own castle walls and all the Toads which is very evil and dark of him. Plus it being a launch title of a new system is what also gave it a push to its greatness. Galaxy basically applied the same method by embracing 64’s change on a grand scale with some nostalgia, visuals so impressive that some believed it looked just as good as a 360 game and beautiful live orchestrated music which I wasn’t a fan of until I played that game.

    1. It’s great for people like me who never finished the game before selling it, also I believe Mario galaxy 2 sells for more than $10 used

            1. “who are bitching about digitals being “expensive” compare to phsyical media”

Nowhere in this comment did you say it’s not in general or even imply that

    2. I had owned the game, but sold it a few years ago for more than what I had to pay for the download. Now I can pick right back up where I left off. This deal worked fine for me and I in no way threw my money away.

  3. I was hoping for a HD galaxy remake. I guess that idea is gone now… oh well..

But what about a Metroid Prime HD remake? Oh wait..

      1. Oh boy, Sunshine HD would be the absolute best. It’s definitely one of my most favourite Mario games of all time, and I’d shed a tear of joy if Nintendo actually announced an HD remake for it, or even a completely new part.

  4. What’s so bad about wii mode? I’d prefer to save my $$$.
I would consider buying if it let me play off of the gamepad however. Otherwise I’ll stick to playing the disc version.

  5. Seeing as all these re-issues do is boot into Wii mode *where your save data is* to run the game, all i can say to the article is duh!!!

  6. Nintendo should have been working on getting N64 and Gamecubes on VC first. We can still play Galaxy 2 on the Wii U, so I don’t really get why Wii games are being released on VC first.

  7. Am I the only person that finds it stupid that Nintendo has Wii games on Virtual Console, even though the Wii U is already backward compatible with Wii games?

    1. It’s for the games that are now hard to find in retail nowadays. Also for those who ever played a Wii game and don’t want to pay a premium for retail

      1. Two of the three games are Mario Galaxy 2 and DK Returns, which should be extremely easy to find in retail. Wii games are obviously much easier to access nowadays than Gamecube or N64 games are. Also, there are more people who didn’t have the chance to play those great Gamecube games (or simply would like to play them again), rather than people who feel the same about Wii titles.
So I agree with The Collector and think that N64 + GC Virtual Console would make much more sense at this point.

        1. Yeah, and they’re taking so long to bring Gamecube and N64 games to Virtual Console that the Wii U’s lifespan will be over (or near over) by the time they finally do.

        2. You’d do well to find Galaxy 2 for the price it’s been this week. Note that all the games they’re releasing are ones from late in Wii’s lifespan – because those are the ones that did get overlooked by some.

The truth about why they went for this rather than N64 or GC virtual console? Less work, and they can justify a higher price because the console is more recent. For now if you want N64 virtual console flick your Wii U into Wii Mode and go to the Wii Shop Channel.

  8. I was already going to buy it when I heard it goes to wii mode then I was like nah I put my wallet back in my pocket.

  9. Is it really THAT much of a hassle to go into Wii Mode to play Wii games? It takes like an extra 30 seconds, maybe a minute. I don’t understand why people are making such a big deal out of it. I’m perfectly happy playing my physical copies of my Wii games that way, and the Wii U upscales the resolution to 720p, so they look pretty darn nice.
