Wondering as to what extent you can customise your character in the forthcoming Xenoblade Chronicles X? Well, this recent video should give you an idea of just how many choices there are when you boot up the game and create your own avatar. 1. Hardly. It’s not racist to point out that most non Asians can’t draw a convincing anime character. Myself included.

          1. Do you have a problem with reading comprehension? I’m saying the faces in this game do not look like proper anime. They look like a white guy drawing anime. Idiot.

Yakuza is my GTA. It’s an inverse-open world, as many of the buildings are functional buildings and not simply a pretty backdrop. Assuming you’ve played Yakuza, have you tried Shenmue? I had to go out of my way and buy a Dreamcast and Shenmue to play it recently. I’m kinda going off topic here, but while the world is a bit restrictive, the people and accessible buildings make it feel so alive. Loading times be damned.

            1. Yep. Played Shenmue when it came out on Dreamcast back in the day and loved it. Haven’t played it since though.

As for Yakuza, I love the series. I have played each one that has been localized. Can’t wait for Yakuza 5, I only played the Japanese demo.

    1. Well it’s an art style. It isn’t supposed to look like anime but it’s not supposed to look like a real person. I personally enjoy them. Well, most of them

  1. i do like how there are different voice characteristic. with male im picking either rival or samurai. but with female i definitely picking tsundere.

  2. The character models look better. This is one of my most anticipated games this year and it looks brilliant but it on the WiiU say sadly it won’t sell as much as it deserves. It would be better if they decide to do what Ubisoft did with Rayman Legends by making Pc Xbone and Ps4 versions.

    1. It’s Nintendo’s IP so good luck with that. And besides, do what Ubishit did to Rayman Legends? You mean delayed a completed port while lying to millions of gamer’s faces and then release it at a very fucking bad time frame to lose those sales to another hyped game?

Yeah. That shit makes complete sense if you’re as much of a fucked up jackass company like Ubishit.

    2. “It would be better if they decide to do what Ubisoft did with Rayman Legends by making Pc Xbone and Ps4 versions” lol unrealistic expectations

    3. @Blackbond That wouldn’t make sense to put it on XBOX ONE, PC, and PS4, mainly because Nintendo made this, lol…”OH OK, LET’S PUT MASTERCHIEF COLLECTION ON PS4, AND WII U!!!DERRRRPPP DE DERP”…….ummmm, No…

They only went through the presets… I was hoping they would have actually sat through and made a half hour long video making a male and female character. I’m sure we’ll get plenty of those on “lets plays” in the future.

  4. There’s just something about the larger eyed youthful characters that I don’t dig. The angry old dudes and goth/punk girls looked much more like actual humans than the anime style characters.

But yeah: I can’t wait for this game. Xenoblade, Fire Emblem (and the crossover for Wii U), Zelda, and Splatoon are all looking like Day 1s for me.

    1. I’m glad the characters models look different. Do you guys really want them to look like every other character model from every other open world game? Where is your sense of creativity. God I hate those drab, stiff looking character models from the grey shooters and sandbox western games.

BTW just picked up my Shulk Amibo. :)
People are saying it could be the rarest Amiibo yet.

      1. “Do you guys really want them to look like every other character model from every other open world game?”
It’s funny you say that, because this type of character design is super common in RPGs, MMORPGs + JRPGs in particular. It’s not all that special, really. I personally like it though, so no complaints from me. :)
And about the “drab, stiff looking” characters in shooters, well, it all depends on the setting and the general atmosphere of the game; naturally, you won’t get big-chested girls with huge eyes and colourful hair in a shooter that takes place in a war zone. Though, having a first-person shooter set in an anime-ish world, with customizable characters might be an interesting change too… Or maybe I’m only saying that because I just really enjoy character creation in games, LOL. You don’t even see your own character in FPS games most of the time after all, so it might be questionable how much sense it would make to have customizable characters in them. But I’m getting a little off track I guess, lmao.

        1. There are not many true rpgs that come to the west anymore, so that style really is kind of special.

Look at anime styled characters compared to westernized ones. Western styled characters are lazy. I’ll use Mass Effect as an example, but this applies to 99% of western games. All the male character models in the game are the same. The only thing that is different are the faces and hair color. Every guy has the same build, and have the exact same height. It’s so lazy! I am so sick of that laziness in developers. Whats really funny is when they show a doctor or a scientist in Mass Effect and they are just as ripped and muscular as the soldiers are. And the females are the same way. They are all the same height with giant perfectly looking fake boobs. It looks like every girl in the game has had a really bad boob job. Again, laziness. There are never any fat people, or short people, or lanky or really skinny people. Or a mixture of those characteristics.

Now look at Anime characters. Even though there are some pervy developers out there, most of the time anime characters range from all different shapes and sizes. I’m not saying they are perfect, but way better than the western designs. And looking at Xenoblade Chronicles X, I can say there is alot of diversity in the character models. Not all women will have the exact same looking big fake tits. If you want to give your character big breasts, that is an option though. Not all men will be the same height with the same muscular build.

This is why I welcome these character models. This is why I hate western styled character models..

          1. Well, it’s difficult to compare games that allow you to create your own character with games that don’t, in terms of character variety. And I don’t know, you shouldn’t generalize the Western games like that; while it’s definitely true that some Western games (sadly) don’t have a wide range of different characters, some other games very well do, just like it’s the case with anime-styled games – some of those have very similar looking characters as well. You might be right when saying that JRPGs are more likely to feature more diverse characters though. Still, even if it isn’t as many as it is with JRPGs, some Western games do a really good job at it too, and I’d say it’s more than just 1% of them.

Also, saying that barely any RPGs make their way to the west anymore is absolutely not true. There is a huge variety on the PS3 alone, the 3DS and Vita offer them too with more to follow on both handhelds + the PS4 and WiiU even, thanks to Xenoblade. Not to mention the countless MMORPGs on PC featuring a style very similar to this, many of them being accessible for free with servers specifically meant for the West.

        1. Well they are rare to find at a gamestop. Meaning only pre-order. But on Ebay they are not rare at all! There are over 500 Shulk Amiibos for sale on Ebay. It’s ridiculous how many Shulk scalpers there are. Prices ranging from 30 to 100 dollars!

  5. Again bigger-smaller boobs for females in a JRPG… Japanese people has sex as taboo but developers still being pervs.
Why don’t they make bigger-smaller penis for your male char?

  6. Ah Awesome! I was wondering if there were customisable characters. It looked like it did but I didn’t see much game footage to confirm it for myself.

  7. Oh, this is good. I was wondering why the characters in the trailers looked so bad. Fortunately they don’t have to stay that way! :p

Can’t wait to explore in this game! Look so good.

  8. This game reminds me so much about the good ol’ days of Phantasy Star Online. Even the character creation takes so many cues from PSO’s.

It merges everything I loved about Xenoblade Chronicles with PSO’s look-and-feel, and I’m sure I’m going to spend hundreds of hours invested into this game’s world offline and online in the many years to come if it is anywhere near how great the original PSO’s level of customization and gameplay was, especially when it comes to online gameplay. In a lot of ways, it feels like a spiritual successor to the original PSO.
