Well, that didn’t take long. The Gold Mario amiibo which is sold through Walmart in the United States and Canada is retailing for around $69.99 on eBay. We knew it was going to happen as soon as we found out that Walmart was planning to sell a special Gold Mario amiibo figure, but this soon? I guess it was to be expected. Still, it’s a real shame that the core fans missed out on getting one.

Sucks for everyone else. Sickr you should double check every info you get, the first article was terribly misleading and caused people to miss out on ordering it.
Other than that, Nintendo should have just bundled the gold Mario with the game really…it would have made more sense and gain even more sales. It would have been a really nice special edition for MP10. But alas, they fail once again yo think this through.
It was Walmart Canada who said that it wasn’t going to be available for pre-order. I am sorry though that some missed out. They were gone in around 15 minutes :(

Supply-and-demand… The only reason scalpars get away with this is because Nintendo charges too little for their little supply but high demand… Nintendo’s MSRP isn’t a fair market price, but scalpars try to sell it at the price where supply = demand. If nobody is buying, the price is too high. If there’s somebody willing to pay that price (probably a rich fan), then they have the market advantage.
Saying “it’s a real shame that the core fans missed out on getting one” is completely false. The same number of fans are getting one in the end, as Nintendo seems to be only manufacturing a set x amount. All scalpars do is decrease demand among the general public by upping the price and securing the short supply for the demand of those willing to pay the higher prices. In other words, the more opulent fans are getting the Amiibos. They have the higher chance of getting an Amiibo now that we poorer folk are no longer demanding the product at the higher prices.
