Keiji Inaune And Marvelous Have Cancelled King Of Pirates 3DS

You may remember a project that was announced by Comcept and Keiji Inaune called King of Pirates which was destined for the Nintendo 3DS. Well unfortunately that game has now been cancelled. We hadn’t heard anything about it for quite some time, so I guess it was on the cards. The game was apparently cancelled due to sudden changes in the market environment. The project has lost the company a staggering 461 million yen ($3.8 million).

Thanks, Rubberyen

  1. So disappointing, ever since they announced it I thought this sounded great– like a historical fiction StarFox. I know Mighty No. 9 is a guaranteed hit that they should focus on, but still, it’s a shame to lose such a significantly more original idea.

  2. Well. They lost a lot of money in cancelling the game. They could possibly sell the IP to another company who might be willing to finish the development?

My Nintendo fanboy inside is saying “sell it to Nintendooo…”

  3. Keiji Inafune needs to just buy back the rights to Mega Man so that we can finally have Legends 3 resume production again. Bottom line.

Then again, he did hire a Zoe Quinn-wannabe for the Mighty No. 9 project…

    1. Buying Megaman would cost him more that he would probably make from Mighty No 9; not even Alchemy will bring him that money back.
Bad decisions were made. Hopefully Mighty No 9 succeeds despite professional victim boycotts and doesn’t cost them another $3.8 million.

  4. Ahhh…now we know what happened to the 4million raised by Mighty#9. It was used to absorb this cluster fuck instead of going towards the game.

These devs are the biggest wanna be-important devs. Riding the Megaman wave until they’ve cost everyone a shit ton of money, all the while making poor business and PR decisions.

Not s coincidence this lost 4mil.

    1. Cause games take money and time to make, say you are employer of small company:
10 programmers $80K per year (some of these people could be low management or producers)
5 Artist (both 3d and 2 illustration) $60K per year
2 PR people $30K per year
1 Sound and Music $50K per year

That is a company of 17 which is a pretty still a pretty small team and its already at about 1.2 million per year.

If they did it in China or a southern Pacific company where inflation is not as much then it might be less.
The problem is things add up quickly. And I am not including local taxes, health insurance (if its the US), and licensing fees from Nintendo (or like game platform) along with being part of the rating board.

I did this roughly so take it with a grain of salt, but you can see how things add up.
