At the recent company briefing Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has talked about bringing core Nintendo IP’s to smart devices such as smartphones and tablets. Iwata says they do not intend to make any exceptions on which franchises can be brought to smart devices. He also says that discretion will be needed as they do not want to flood the smartphone market with games.
As for which Nintendo IP will be used, we do not intend to make any exceptions. Potentially, any Nintendo IP could be used in our smart device software. On the other hand, as I just said, games on smart devices require ever-evolving services rather than just being a finished product. A combined effort will be necessary to operate them. People’s attention would only be dispersed if we simply increased the number of the titles we simultaneously released, and we could not expect to expand our business. Accordingly, we will narrow down the titles for development and operation to some extent.

IWATA YOU FOOL! YOU MUST PUT YOSHIS COOKIE AND ALL OF THOSE SNES NES GAMEBOY GAMES ON IPHONES! YOU MOTHER FUCKER YOU CAN BE A MILLIONAIRE! A BILLIONAIRE! AND YOU CAN EAT ALL THE RICE YOU WANT!! YOU CAN EAT IT ALL! YOU DRINK MY MILKSHAKE! YOU DRINK IT UP YOU SLANTED EYED MOTHER FUCKER!

Did you forget to take your pills this morning?
Bhahahahahahhaha
Good called it
It’ll probably be retro games and handheld games only anything from the n64 and up probably won’t since they can’t even put those on the Wii U.
Nope, they said they aren’t porting their games.
They said they aren’t porting wiiu and 3ds games
That could very well mean VC games.
Ugh, this just pisses me off.
I like Nintendo, but I don’t want to see shit like Zelda runner, or Flappy Kirby. It’s gonna happen, Sega did it with Sonic.
Not happening. Or, might be, but I don’t believe it before I see it with my own eyes.
Then it shouldn’t have any effect of you.
Not sure how I feel about this…
I’m fine if Nintendo puts NES and SNES on smartphones so they can’t get an its of a look at what nintendo games feel like. But if you want to have then full experience you have to have a Wii U or New 3DS for the 3D games
New ip’s people
Lol we might get a new F Zero game after all
Reblogged this on Too Geek To Function.
New games just don’t copy other mobile game but remember this is Nintendo after all so most likely not.
No remakes or ports.
They have no choice. They’re losing money with the Indii U.
No.
I like your denial.
Before you assume you know fact from fiction, why don’t you spend at least a few seconds to do your research to find out that Nintendo is profiting from the Wii U but not as much as they want to?
Or is that too much effort for thou?
You are not Mozart. It’s pretty obvious they’re losing money with every Indii U sold. They have stated that.
No.
I like your denial.
I actually wouldn’t be too unhappy with new IPs for smartphones. It wouldn’t affect their current market at all, and we might actually start getting creative games on smartphones again. I don’t think they’d stoop so low as to make a Zelda runner or anything. A new IP means a new IP
Just gives next generation 3DS a less chance to sell. Stupid. May as well make games for PS4 while your’re at it.
The next gen 3ds has less chance of selling whether or not Nintendo makes games for 3ds or not, nobody was going to buy a 4ds for Mario run, and nobody is not going to buy it because they can play Kirby Jump o their phone, people who buy handhelds want a full game experience, people who aren’t looking for that in the first place where never going to buy one in the first place
This has been worrying me. I am confident in Nintendo’s decisions when it comes to solid gaming, but this plan to use their IP’s on mobile devices is so unclear right now. Never mind the new membership service, that sounds good all around and pretty much no different then before except there’ll be an app. It could be a great strategy though to reach others with their “way of gaming.” I do not want to see an F-Zero game on a smartphone, but if it were to happen it’d better be the best bloody thing ever. Actually I still don’t want that.
This was bound to happen anyways. The investors pushed them to fucking do this.
True
For good reason.
I like this news. They said they aren’t gonna start making a bunch of mobile games. Just maybe a few at a time and not just make a bunch of them day 1 or something. This is good because it could very much lead to their IPs appealing to the mobile gaming market. I just hope they won’t make too much games on mobile so people won’t feel they don’t need to buy Nintendo’s system to play more of their games. They need to be a bit strict and make sure that after that once the market is hooked, reel them into the console business. Don’t feed them too much bait otherwise they’ll feel they don’t need to buy Nintendo consoles to experience Nintendo games.
This might just be demos on phones that encourage consumers to go and buy Nin stuff.
Nope, we’re not going to see any ports of any Nintendo games on smart phones. That would take away from the Virtual Console sales. They are going to take their IPs, and give them the “Sonic the Hedgehog Mobile” treatment. A game like Infinity Blade, but with Link. Stuff like that. Why? Because it’s cheap and easy to make, and those are the most popular games on smart phones, plus, they don’t cost much to make. Then, new people are exposed to the IPs, and I’m sure there will be advertisements or videos etc, of REAL Nintendo games, people will see those, and say “well, that looks fun, but oh, I need a 3DS/Wii U to play it, guess I’ll consider getting one of those”. Seems like a really good idea. Don’t cut into your Virtual console sales, entice people to buy your hardware, and while you’re doing that, make money on cheap $1 mobile games.
They’re only bringing the IPs to the market and not the games. Never will we see Excitebike, Wario’s Woods, or SMB, on a smart phone, but we may see a Metroid blaster, Mario Runner, or Kid Icarus platformer. If normal Nintendo games could be bought through an app store that would only hurt them more. I don’t even think they would use series like the Mario vs Donkey Kong or WarioWare despite being a good choice for an app. People will have to buy Nintendo’s consoles to see all Nintendo has to offer.
I actually support Nintendo’s choice. The smartphone demographic is huge, so if these mobile games are sucessful, it could potentially encourage a new audience to try out more Nintendo games.
But I do hope that Nintendo won’t focus too much on smartphones. They should remember to continue to supply their consoles with quality games.
