Not content with nominating Banjo for Smash Bros on Twitter earlier, Playtonic now wants everyone to vote for the majestic King K.Rool. It’s certainly hard to decide between the two, but my vote lies with the crowd pleasing Banjo. Who are you voting for in the Super Smash Bros DLC?

To those who are thinking, King K. Rool is NOT Playtonic or Rare’s IP character. If he’s in DK universe which is also in Mario’s Universe; also in Nintendo’s, it’s THEIR character.
The thing is people think this way only because RARE created the rest of the Kongs outside of Cranky and Donkey, K. Rool/Kremlings, DK Barrels, etc.
Without even understanding that the DK franchise is “published” by Nintendo. Meaning they have 100% ownership over everything that has been made in every single DK game. (minus the Jetpack mini-game from DK 64 since that was an original RAREWARE title)
If RARE truly owned the rights to stuff like this then Diddy Kong wouldn’t even be in Smash to begin with and the Diddy Kong racing remake would have been a 360 exclusive.
Also the Kremlings being in Mario Sluggers also suggest that all that property still belongs to Nintendo.

Only problem there really is that transformations are out in SSB4 to accomodate for the 3DS technical limitations.
What about when you do final smashes like super sonic, and the x and y transformations.
Those are different because it’s not reassigning a player’s control to a different character with an entirely different moveset like Zelda/Sheik used to. When those characters transformed in Melee/Brawl, the game had to load a complete character, not just a different model with a shorter list of coding.
What about a wiiu exclusive or maybe also new 3ds exclusive I’m sure nintendo could pull it off if they did give it a real shot.

K. Rool’s most certainly a “crowd-pleaser” too, and unlike Banjo, he’s got a legitimate shot at being chosen, what with being a first party who doesn’t directly advertise Nintendo’s biggest competitor.
I, for one, am very happy that Playtonic is advertising their creation, an epic character who’d be a ton of fun to play as in Smash.

Even if that were true, there are Smash characters that Sakurai basically invented. Captain Falcon is a shining example of a character we knew next to nothing about. Even if he isn’t a very good candidate, if Sakurai is behind it, I know it’ll be good. Also, I ship Shantae with Sakurai. Not sure if I’ve beaten that one into the ground yet.
Too bad Sakurai loses points when it comes to Ganondorf. :/

King K. Rool would certainly be a crowdpleaser as well, he has been one of the most popular requests since Melee.
He’d also had a very amazing unique moveset with all the abilities of his various disguises from all of his appearances. People who claim he has a “no moveset/personality” obviously haven’t played any of his games.
Seriously, what does everyone have against King K Rool? The gaming press seem eager to shaft him – he’s one of the most popular in the east and the west, something every site reporting on the ballot is keen to avoid mentioning. Banjo-Kazooie is a crowd pleaser but certainly no more so than K Rool, who by all exit polls I’ve seen is beating him solidly. Of course, there’s the standard list of reasons people seem to spout against him:
– “Bowser clone” – Something uttered by those who have never played a DKC game, as if they did they’d know he tends to fight with a good array of projectiles that would make him feel like anything but Bowser. I’m talking boomerang crowns, blunderbuss cannons, electricity, gas clouds, cannons falling from the ceiling, the works. There is so much potential there that it’s actually really hard to fit everything a fan would want to see into a single moveset, and I would recommend anyone who disagrees to go watch the boss battles for DKC1, 2, 3 and DK64.
– “Not a good moveset” – See above.
– “Not interesting/charismatic” – I understand personal dislikes but to say he has no charisma when each game involves him taking on a new alter-ego is frankly flawed. On a related note, such good potential alternate costumes.
– “not relevant” – Despite Kremlings in SSB3DS Smash Run, and recent rereleases of all his main games. Often seemingly uttered by people voting for the likes of Geno.
I get if you don’t like K. Rool. Chances are I may not like the character you’re voting for either. But to stick your head in the sand and pretend he isn’t one of the frontrunners for this ballot is fooling no-one but yourself.

K. Rool has been popular since Brawl. He’s fully owned by Nintendo and would be very unique, no matter what. Banjo and K. Rool both are popular, the main difference is one is owned by Nintendo, one is owned by Microsoft. I personally like them both, but voted for K. Rool over Banjo because he has no copyright/legal issues to battle.

THE ONLY WAY BANJO SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN THE GAME IS IF: Nintendo gets 50% of all future profit made by the character since having him in smash would revive his reputation! SINCE THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKELY TO HAPPEN King K Rool would be the best alternative!

I am happy to see that King K. Rool is being endorsed by Playtonic Games. The more support he gets, the better his shot is for SSB DLC. King K. Rool should have been in by now, being the main antagonist of the Donkey Kong series and he is well due for a return. What better way to do that than to bring him back into Smash?

My vote is lying with the man KING K. ROOL because as someone who loves Smash 4 we need another heavy character in our roster, and who other than the mighty KING K. ROOL to fill the spot. Also Donkey Kong is well under represented on the roster with just Donkey & Diddy.
K. Rool, the arch-villain and main antagonist of the Donkey Kong Country/64 series is well-deserving of this spot. Also his move set would be super unique if were based on his appearances in the games.

I will agree that Medusa would be an interesting addition, but K. Rool should come first. Before you combat me, let me explain my reasoning.
Donkey Kong has had numerous games, spanning several systems like the SNES, N64, GameCube, DS, Wii, and so on. Kid Icarus has only had three games, one of which was a Game Boy title that never even released in Japan until 2012. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are the only two DK series Smash combatants despite having many more games than the KI series, which now has three characters on the roster.
15+ games, but only two characters in Smash
3 games, and three characters in Smash.
Why should a smaller series get a fourth Smash fighter before a bigger, more renowned series gets a third?
Medusa would be nice to have, but others, like K. Rool, should have higher priority.

I really like the lists! Only thing I would change is swap Meg Man X for Zero. Move Geno into the top 6 and then that list is perfect. And for the 1st party I would get rid of Chrom ONLY because he’s in robins final smash. Replace him with somene else. Besides that it’s a golden list! Haha
You made some great points about Mega Man X and Chrom lol. I literally forgot about Chrom being in Robin’s final Smash because I hardly use him and Zero would be a better choice than Mega Man X because he’s more badass. Actually, now that I think about it, Chrom COULD still be playable.
Anyone here played Awakening? If so, you would know that the game features Streetpass which allow you to meet with teams of units other players have built. The game also has DLC that takes place in various alternate worlds; those missions are called “Xenologues” in the game.
Chrom could still be a fighter, just not the same Chrom featured in Robin’s FS- it would be a Chrom from one of these xenoverses, with different abilities.
If K. Rool doesn’t get added, I’m going to seriously wonder if Sakurai has something against the DK franchise.
I agree. Since melee k. Rool deserved a spot.yet wasnt in nor brawl nor the original roster for this game. It’s a shame he tries to bring more like to the games he made than others (kirby and kid icarus)

I struggle to believe that the man who came up with a moveset for the likes of Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt Dog is incapable of creating a moveset for K. Rool, a villain whose four completely distinct boss battles practically write a moveset by themselves.
Surely the fact K Rool is so popular despite being old is to his credit? (Though for the record, K. Rool has had a boss appearance within the last 10 years in DK Jungle Climber). Those of us voting for him also hope that demonstrating his popularity will herald a return to the DK series which he’s missed in the past couple of games.

Like, there are so many potential Zelda characters to be added. When Mario has like practically double digit representatives, and Zelda didn’t even get a new representative in SSB4, something isn’t right. I get that multiples of the above mentioned are assist trophies, but it’s just strange that for all of the recent Zelda releases/re-releases, we didn’t get a single new playable Zelda representative. Hell, they only even gave us Skyloft as a single new Zelda stage. So much wasted potential.

Unfortunately Banjo & Kazooie will never be playable. Nintendo would never work something out with Microsoft given their isolated attitude towards the video game industry and there is no reason to believe they would go through the effort of adding a Microsoft character into Smash. King K. Rool is actually possible given that he is even more wanted and happens to be owned by Nintendo.
It’s not Banjo or King K. Rool, it’s King K. Rool or no Rareware characters.

If I remember correctly Microsoft reached out to them in a ‘you can publish if we can’ deal and Nintendo backed out of it half way through the negotiations! It was a licensing nightmare (between Microsoft, Rare, Activision, and Nintendo) but it was actually going to happen! But Nintendo ruined it! Now it will probably be stuck in limbo forever! :(

While K.Rool would be awesome, I would want Classic Donkey Kong added as a fighter, as in the original one from the arcade games and Donkey Kong on the GameBoy. Have a move set based around throwing various things like barrels, those chain-chomp sort of things from Jr. and throwing hives of angry bees and have his final smash turn into a giant pixel version of himself and go on a rampage. Could maybe even have an alternate form/costume for him that turns him into Cranky Kong.

I just want King K. Rool in a Donkey Kong game again. He is DK’s Bowser! Where has he been since DK 64. Instead of coming up with “new and improved enemies” those asshats at Retro should have just came up with a good game.
Returns and Tropical Freeze are better than the originals, they just don’t have better villains.
I haven’t played Tropical Freeze yet, but Returns was not better than the originals. The graphics yes, but I had far more fun with the originals.
