Some New Information About The Splatoon Global Testfire Demo Later Today

After the Splatoon Direct the other night, it was announced that a free demo would be available to play at certain time slots, and the first one is almost here. Ahead of the first Global Testfire, the official Squid Research Lab have revealed some information about what you’ll see in the free demo. Firstly, the Global Testfire Demo is available to download now from the eShop in preparation for the first live session later today.

Secondly, a couple of locations that you’ll be able to play in have come to light. The first is called Walleye Warehouse– which you might have seen before in a Treehouse session– and the second is Saltspray Rig, which you can see in the gallery below. Word is the location you play will be chosen at random. And finally, there will be four weapons available to play with during the Testfire, and they are the Splattershot Jr., Splattershot, Splat Roller and Splat Charger. I think the Splat Roller will be my weapon of choice! Don’t miss out on your chance to get a sneak peek into Splatoon, and prepare yourself for one of the Global Testfires. The slots are:

  • Europe: Saturday, May 9th at 5AM / 1PM / 9PM
  • UK: Saturday, May 9th at 4AM / 12PM / 8PM
  • North America (East): Friday, May 8th at 11PM / Saturday, May 9th at 7AM / 3PM
  • North America (West): Friday, May 8th at 8PM / Saturday, May 9th at 4AM / 12PM

    1. I’m assuming that’s it and there won’t be anymore tests. You can probably go ahead and delete it after Saturday.

Thank you for mentioning the the eastern time as well. I don’t know why fuckers always Skip us like we don’t fucking exist.

    1. Usually it’s EST or PST, or just the latter. I’m a New Yorker myself, but I don’t mind converting to EST.

Though, I do feel bad for the two time zones in between. They’re the ones who are truly treated as if they don’t exist.

I’ve heard of the central time zone because my friend love there and no one ever lists it. I hate when Nintendo just list pacific time though. Not everybody loves by that fucking time zone and i hate having to Google “8:00(PT) to (ET)” I’ve actually been tricked by Nintendo before, those fuckers only listed the Pacific time for a Nintendo direct. I was there waiting like where the fuck is the nintendo direct.

  2. I can’t believe us east coast have to play it at 11:00 tonight!!! That is such a bad time and then 7-8 is too early lol! So that is kinda disappointing! Especially since they are only an hour long session

      1. There’s always going to be messed up times. That’s why they have three sessions. At least one will be happening in a good time.

        1. Well with thinking about it, I guess it makes sense to give everyone at least one chance to play the demo. Since every time is either the morning, afternoon and at night.

  3. Will Splatoon have an option for an inverted Y-axis (tilting thumbstick forward is looking down, tilting it back is looking up)? I know some games, even shooters, treat the thumbstick actions as if they’re D-pads.

Will the Global Testfire offer the chance to select this option?

Or will inverted Y-axis be default?

    1. There was an option to change to inverted Y-axis and X-axis. You can turn both or just the other.

  4. For all us Americans that live in central time and all Americans in general.

    1. I’ve had it pre-ordered since two months ago, but now this is officially the most excited I’ve been for a pre-order in years, even surpassing Sm4sh.

  5. Anyone else just get done with the session? That was the most fun I’ve had on the Wii U in a long time!

  6. New Nintendo Crack consumed….mmmm…..NEED MORE….SOON..NO…SLEEP…..nEEd more INK….:(

This was really fun. Fun in it’s simplicity and competitiveness. Pure innocent fun and it was awesome.

  8. Well Splatoon was surprisingly pretty fun. I didn’t go in with high exceptions but I left disappointed. Disappointed the demo was only a hour long! Really fun game, Nintendo may have very well snagged them one more sell for Splatoon because I loved it so far.

I didn’t think they were OP. Around corners, they were suprising. But I splattered so many of them simply by backpedaling and shooting at them. I felth they were at am extreme disadvantage in wide open places.

      1. Maybe it was just an isolated case. I was playing against this person that was scary good with the roller. He was very cautious and was only interested in killing inklings from what I saw. I got pretty pissed to the point that I didn’t care about the turf war and just wanted to get back at this fool lol

I put a splash of paint on some pillar on the warehouse stage and waited hiding as a squid stuck on the wall. Wall + sneek attack = rekt :3

      2. Exactly- in close corners, they can easily run you over. Get ’em in the open, though, and you can mess with them easily.

The way I see it, roller players are equipped for covering large areas quickly and accurately- they aren’t built for combat.

  9. It was really fun, I can’t wait to play in the morning again. Wish it was all weekend long.

My only gripes would be the jump feels a bit awkward, I personally don’t like the motion control scheme, and I still wish it had voice chat so I could coordinate a more efficient team. Even though I only lost once in the hour, some of my teams were really bad. Too many treated it like deathmatch, leaving me not being able to enjoy the game fully since I had to cover so many peoples slack. Even worse when I’m painting more with a splat charger, than most the teams I was on.

Contrary to what everyone has been saying, that the game doesn’t need voice chat. I think it really could have used it. There was this general disconnect with my teammates, everyone is off doing their own thing, even when it had no benefit to the overall objective.

Also for those saying rollers are OP… Simply get better at the game, even with me sucking with motion controls, I could pick off those rollers easily.

Some tips against rollers; go squid because they’re slow, lure them in a straight line towards you to make for an easy kill. And if you have trouble doing either of those tactics, you can always get on high ground which again makes for an easy kill on roller users.

      1. I also turned them off, but I tried it out at first for a bit.

Just saying I didn’t like the motion controls overall. Not that it can’t work for some but it doesn’t work for me. What gets confusing for me is the turning left or right, sometimes you’ll want to just use the gamepad, or sometimes you’ll need to use the stick instead because you can’t turn enough using the motion controls

I can aim a lot better by using the analog sticks instead. As smooth and precise as the motion controls were, it still wasn’t quick enough for me in those last minute adjustments I needed.

I also do not like having to worry about the orientation of my hands in such a manner, sometimes I also just like to kick back and rest the controller in my lap. I can’t do that with motion controls. I basically have hold the controller up and steady, which to me can be annoying at times.

I don’t want to feel like I’m driving a car, when I’m playing a shooter.

    1. I think voice chat would be very limted in turf. The objective is really just tover turf…then CHAOS. I feel rank may need it more, but turf no

      1. I disagree, but that’s just my opinion.

Many of my teams were horrid, and it would have been great to be able to communicate to these players in some way other than c’mon and booyah. Some people just do not need to be manning the front line when all they’re doing is getting killed, making it harder for better players to paint anything because all the rest of your teammates keep respawning from playing dumb. Being a top player in most the games I’ve played with a splat charger just doesn’t feel right.

If I could talk in the game, that would be less likely to happen. It’s also great for players who just cannot figure the game out in any way, to be able to talk to players who have a grip on things.

Yes, the objective is easy enough to understand, but clearly not everyone understands it.

  10. My power went out 10min before it started, and after going to 3 different stores for fuses I just get it back on. Talk about bad timing…

  11. I had a great time. I think I was on the winning team about 75-80% of the time. I used the roller the whole time. I can’t wait to play again tomorrow. :~)

  12. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>And no one remembers voice chat ever again like humans always forget things after something new is given>>>

        >>>When I say “no one” I’m referring to you peons so the only flawed one is you like always, now go back to your little butthurt area and eat the mud>>>

  13. Splatoon wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be. Well at least not as E rated. It felt almost like a shooter for children.

  15. I’m telling ya they did not think things through with this demo. Only three opportunities to play it, only at a certain time of the day on specific dates, requiring a specific type of Internet connection, and if you missed all three opportunities you don’t get to play the demo. Seriously how does that equal a good idea?

    1. Because it’s a stress test for their servers. They’re not thinking about you or your schedule they’re thinking about how the game would avoid online issues come may 29. Hence GLOBAL Testfire meaning it’s not only you American gamers timezone but us Asian players too.
