Nintendo Plans Marketing Push For Splatoon To Match Mario Kart 8

Nintendo are planning a marketing campaign for Splatoon that will apparently be on par with that of Mario Kart 8. Nintendo held a six month long campaign for Mario Kart 8 last year, and Splatoon are already getting started on theirs. They’ve released cinema ads ahead of Tomorrowland to target kids, and ahead of Mad Max to target adults, digital billboards and a sponsorship from Cartoon Network. They’re even opening a Splatoon themed skate park in Corby. Nintendo UK marketing manager, Chandra Nair, says the firm is confident in its new colourful new shooter. Maybe they can make Splatoon as popular as Mario Kart 8!

“We have a substantial campaign planned for Splatoon. To give you an idea of the scale, we’re matching Mario Kart 8 – that’s the potential we think Splatoon has. We have the utmost confidence in the potential of Splatoon. It gives retailers a fantastic art style that stands out in-store or on-screen and it also offers various up-sell opportunities with the accompanying Amiibo. It’s a really interesting game for us because it allows us to expand out to a group of people who may never have considered Wii U before.”

    >>>Now if we could travel back in time and do the same thing for Smash Brothers and Bayonetta 2>>>

Travel back in time back in 2008 would be better. And correct the dumb ideas Nintendo thought was wise on Wii U specs for 2015.

  2. The fact that Nintendo is so confident in this game, makes me confident that I will thoroughly enjoy splatoon on Day 1

      1. not really, its mostly been costumes, and extras. Splatoons amiibo support gives u costumes that u just got earn by replaying story missions. The only game that i’ve seen that really did that was mario party…but no like that game

        1. The challenges and outfits are amiibo exclusive. Where the balls are you getting your information? Mine comes directly from Nintendo’s website about amiibo compatibility.

Three different amiibo and each have different challenges linked to them. It’s on disc DLC, simple as that. They’re selling a finished game with paywall content already on the disc! That’s a terrible thing to do and it’s not something to support.

  3. Every time I ask a friend about a wiiu game and ask if they will buy it they all ask me the same thing. . . . .

    Does it have voice chat?

    Smash
    Mk8
    Bayonetta 2
    Splatoon

Games they didn’t buy because lack of online play

    Pikmin 3
    Mp10
    Wiiu party

        1. Lmao. The lulz never ends, this moron wants voice chat because is his only chance of human interaction, what a loser!

          1. I live in the country, far from civilization. My best friends are 2000 + miles away. You spoiled city folk have no idea how Nintendo is crippling their gamez.

            1. Whatever. If people think voice chat is their only chance of interaction with others, that means they have a bad relationship with their family and people around them. It’s funny because he thought the others were social rejects.

              1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

Or they can’t afford the gas prices to go visit their friends that live in the next town every day. Not everyone can be rich or have a well paying job with a dependable vehicle.

Nintendo was stupid when NSMBU and Luigi U was in R&D and didn’t think of online after SMBU complaints. Also stupid for not thinking online on 3D World.

        1. Jtz from Gad tribe

If Ninte do didn’t think to make Wii U just a tiny but more powerful than PS3 it could have handled online.

    2. Jtz from Gad tribe

Pikmin 3 would have online if Nintendo focused on PS4 in 2008 instead of the PS3. So Wii U can’t handle 200 Pikmin online for 2 players.

      1. Not while gaming. Not even with your friend list. You have horribly gimped chat in the lobby.

Unless there is an update missed? (entirerly possible)

        1. No, you are correct, only lobby crap chats. Smash is the worst because there’s a timer that disables VC after like 30 seconds, which is completely stupid when I found out.

Nintendo is so against socializing……. Its quite sad really. :-/

It’s because the majority of Japanese gamers prefer to remain anonymous online. Voice chat is just one more way to NOT be anonymous. Nintendo was just being nice when they added voice chat to Mario Kart 8 & Smash 4 Wii U/3DS.

“You’re lucky we let you talk to your friends at all, Americans, Europeans, other Asians, Australians, Canadians, Mexicans, & Africans!” ~Nintendo

They haven’t come right out & said it but that’s the impression they leave behind.

    3. get a PC and a fucking skype and get the fuck out of a nintendo forum. fuuuck these voice chat people are soooo fucking annoying. nintendo fans DON”T WANT VOICE CHAT.
it was in moster hunter 3 and all i heard was americans and their bad accents swearing at each other.

      1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

I can say the same about you people hating on those that would actually want voice chat. Least the ones wanting it aren’t being selfish since you guys that hate voice chat can just mute people or turn the feature off completely. While you guys don’t have to worry about the feature at all even though a few seconds going to settings won’t kill you, we don’t even get a choice in the matter. See how one sided the lack of voice chat is? Of course not. Too busy being selfish assholes.

The moment they added multiplayer was the moment they should have added online co-op/competitive. If they didn’t want to hear people asking for online, they never should have added the multiplayer mode in the first place. Nintendo knows full well that when people think of multiplayer, they think of being able to play multiplayer offline AND online these days. So the single player game excuse would have more weight if it didn’t have the multiplayer.

  4. Too bad they didn’t do this same marketing push for the Wii U in general back when it first released. Things might have been very different right now.

    1. Jtz from Gad tribe

Will it’s a lot wrong with Wii u when it was being made in R&D in 2008. Should have thought futuristicly is one of them. But they was too focus making it more powerful than PS3. And too dumb to think Sony didn’t have a PS4 in R&D in 2008 too.

It was more than just marketing that didn’t sell the Wii U. First of all, there were people out there CAMPAIGNING against the Wii U. They were spreading confusion around the internet and in stores ON PURPOSE to make people think the controller was a Wii peripheral.

Second, Nintendo made a weaker console that did not support a lot of porting over from other engines, so 3rd party companies were turned off before the console was even released.

Third, is Nintendo’s marketing strategy… or lack there of. No one knew about the Wii U and even if they did, they thought it was a peripheral (thanks to the Nintendo trolls).

Fourth, everyone knew stronger, more competent (less gimmicky) hardware was coming out a year later and with the PS3 and Xbox 360 still selling fine and receiving games, there was no immediate need to buy a Wii U. As it turns out, there has YET to be a real reason to buy a WIi U for many people. Some are still waiting for Metroid. Some are still waiting for Zelda. Some are still waiting for Star Fox, F-Zero, Nintendo’s new IP (Splatoon), etc.

Fifth, some people can get their Nintendo fix on their handheld console, the 3DS. Believe it or not, the 3DS is also a direct competitor with the Wii U, because it is the only other console right now receiving Nintendo exclusives!!

Sixth, because Wii U started off so poorly, it naturally hit a position where it’s sales would not get better until it’s software sales got better, but it’s software sales would not get better without the hardware sales getting better. This is a unbeatable situation and is only avoidable in the first year and a half of a console’s life, to be honest. People lose hope in a console and very little could change people’s minds. Only thing that could leads me to my final reason.

Seventh, 3rd party companies were and are unwilling to put their games on the Wii U for another reason. The Wii U has not sold enough consoles to warrant a promising return on investment in developing a game for the console. Because the Wii U can’t sell more consoles, the software doesn’t sell and because they need more hardware sales to receive more (better) software from 3rd party companies so they can get the return on investment that they want, the Wii U will not receive any 3rd party software at all. Without 3rd party exclusives and without the essential 3rd party games that people want to buy (and don’t feel like they are missing out on anything that the PS4 and Xbox ONe can provide), the Wii U is not an enticing console, except to Nintendo fans.

All in all, the Wii U really had no chance of succeeding from the start. In fact, I probably have not even mentioned all that went wrong. I’m sure there is more.

      1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

*cringes* The painful truth. Of course, some 3rd party games could help the situation but that becomes another unbeatable problem as 3rd parties won’t take the risk because the lack of sales. It was explained better by someone else.

  5. Jtz from Gad tribe

That’s stupid Nintendo. Why would you think at the last minute to do this and not had thought of this months before? Splatoons isn’t like Mario Kart it needs to be more on par than the popular 8 generation old racing game. Should have thought about this when this game will in R&D.

  6. 1. It better be good but Nintendo need to advertise the system more
    2. Now since we have bowser he can advertise how Nintendo are supposed to advertise

    1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

If it’s not too late. More importantly, if no one else at Nintendo holds him back from doing his job.

  7. Finally, this is something that should have been done with The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 in the past.

  8. They can advertise it all they want. I’m simply not purchasing it because of on disc DLC. If I bought the game, there WILL be content locked to me unless I pay further. On disc DLC is the worst kind of DLC.

I have not supported other companies when they’ve done this in the past, Nintendo doesn’t get a free pass, no matter how much I love them.

I really hate where they’re taking the Amiibo things.

    1. The amiibo just unlock different weapons for the same old single player missions and special costumes. Calm your tits down.

    2. I wonder how many people would actually buy Amiibo if they were just figures that had no use in games.

      1. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

A ton. But because of the content they can unlock with amiibo on some games, a ton of people are using it as an excuse to not buy them. Case in point, S Ryan. But maybe this would change if amiibo themselves weren’t so fucking hard to get if you want a specific, more rare character.

  9. Those weapons and costumes have abilities placed in them however and doesn’t change the fact it’s locked behind a pay wall. Getting the amiibos regardless because I like the design and model though… of course it’ll be much smarter to just get the Inkling bundle.

  10. Since they have a manga why not make a show to go with it like Pokemon? Those commercials aren’t really exciting admittedly

  11. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

xD Yes because the marketing for Mario Kart 8 was such a huge help that helped the Wii U sell well over 20 million units! Pfft! Maybe with Bowser in charge of marketing at NoA, maybe, just maybe, the Wii U can still help Nintendo bank on the console. Barring any interference from some idiot at Nintendo of America that thinks the advertisement for certain games isn’t family friendly enough. *sigh* When did Nintendo let overprotective parents & politicians chop it’s balls off? Hm? Sadly, Nintendo has become just like WWE with the lack of a nerve to push the boundaries.

  12. These comments are depressing. I honestly wouldn’t be so sad if I gave a damn about any other console. But if Nintendo crumbles, I feel like im not going to have anywhere to turn for games.
