Mario Kart 8 Has Sold Over One Million Copies In Japan

One of the Wii U titles that has been a success in Japan is Mario Kart 8. While Japanese gamers haven’t been out in their droves to purchase the game, it has however sold over one million copies. Quite an achievement for a console that hasn’t really taken off in the country. The figure was revealed in today’s Media Create sales charts, which you can check out here.

  1. So this generation.. best selling games of wii u will be mario kart 8, splatoon, hyrule warriors, zelda, star fox, and last but not lest, devils third

  2. didant sell 90 million at the 1st hour of lounch
    therefore the game must suck completly
    therefore nintendo fail and sony rull
    my logic is flawless

    Great News on three fronts on the same day for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 a million sold. Splatoon sold out :).

    F=ma.

  4. And it only took them one year. Sad. XP Japan just hates fun games but then again, Nintendo fucked it’s Battle Mode so I may understand why it didn’t sell fast enough.

    1. MK8 is the best MK game ever made. There is only a little over 2 million Wii U’s in Japan, so that’s nearly one out of every 2 people that bought the game..

          1. Double Dash was such a blast I can replay that game repeatedly without ever getting bored. :3 Imagine it remade into HD with 12 player online. I’d do buy that shit. X3

        1. Mario Kart 8 stays fun if you play it Local Multiplayer, with someone with an equal skill level. Then the races become extremely close and fun. But in terms of Single Player, it does get a little boring, especially when you are so good at the game that you have a huge breakaway and always win. I might also like Mario Kart Wii in single player, more than Mario Kart 8 because of Time Trial. It was so much fun doing all of these shortcuts in Mario Kart Wii’s Time Trial, to improve my time constantly. Shortcuts like the Mushroom Gorge Gap Jump, the Rainbow Road Moon Jump, the DK Snowboard Cross (DK Summit in America,) Double Shortcut and many more, the lack of fun shortcuts in Mario Kart 8 doesn’t make me want to Time Trial these courses, but these had cool shortcut potential, with shortcuts like N64 Yoshi Valley, after the paths join back up again, you could have easily done a neat little gap jump, but you can’t, you get half way and Lakitu picks you up again. Seriously, Lakitu is the worst part about Mario Kart 8, not the Battle Mode.

          1. I tried playing the game with my cousins and I wanted to show them how awesome Mario Kart 8 was. But they didn’t even go more than 3 tracks before losing interest. I convinced them to play a little bit more but then they gave up completely and didn’t want to play it anymore. Not even the DLC tracks. Smash Bros on the other hand… Well, they played that all night. Lol.

    2. “only” *cough* *cough*

      One year sounds a lot to me compared to how long it took MK Wii to sell 1,000,000 copies in Japan.

  5. Nintendo has had the worst first half of the year on record in 2015. However, IF we get Xenoblade, Star Fox, Wooly World, Mario Maker, and maybe a sunrise game in the next six months, I will be satisfied…

    If Nintendo releases all the promised game in the second half of this year, I will forgive them for the Zelda delay….
