Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Will Be Directed By Radiant Historia Director

Little has been heard about Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem since the April 1st Nintendo Direct, however the game’s official blog featured a new member of the development staff: Mitsuru Hirata.

For those unfamiliar with Hirata’s work, he had previously worked as director of Atlus’ Radiant Historia  and supporting director of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, both on Nintendo DS. In Hirata’s blog post, he reminisces of his fond memories with the Fire emblem series — specifically the “perma-death”.

To round out the discussion, Hirata provided a new screenshot of a dungeon (previously shown on the April 1st Direct) to show the constant graphical improvements coming to the crossover title. To compare and contrast, check out the before and after below:

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem still has no official release date, however that may change during E3.

  1. Honestly, everyone should just stop calling this SMTxFE. It just doesn’t resemble any of those franchises in a significant way. Illusory Revelations #FE, the actual japanese name, is fairer to both franchises.

Anyway, I’m still not convinced. Looks like Persona with some Fire Emblem elements. I hate the idea of the FE cast reduced to what’s assumed to be transformations/summons.

So looking like one franchise isn’t a significant thing?

      1. Persona is not SMT. Atlus just ads the ‘SMT’ moniker in the title of many of their franchises for advertisement purposes. So no, Persona is not SMT in the same way Devil Survivor is not SMT, for instance.

  2. This is one of the many games be nintendo that has peaked my interest. I really hope we see more of this game and that nintendo will announce a release date at E3.

  3. Definitely buying this the instant it drops. Damn that updated screen shot looks a helluva lot more beautiful than the first glimpse.

  6. I’m very much looking forward to this especially considering that this is a cross over of two of my favorite franchises. However I don’t really see the SMTxFE elements outside of summoning(?) FE characters.
