Speaking with IGN, Nintendo General Manager and video game icon Shigeru Miyamoto gave some insight into what we should be expecting with Star Fox amiibo. First and foremost, he let collectors know that the Smash Bros. series’ Fox amiibo as well as the upcoming Falco amiibo will be compatible, letting you unlock an “in-game present.”
Moreover, Miyamoto discussed an upcoming prototype for an Arwing (Fox’s signature ship) amiibo. While concepts are being tossed around, the amiibo development team at Nintendo are still wrestling over the price and design. But if Miyamoto had his way, he would want the Arwing amiibo to be able to transform:
Earlier, we talked about how the 3D model of the Arwing will actually transform [into a two-legged Walker] in the game. We have an actual model and we’re thinking how much it would actually cost to make when it’s transformable Can we actually do that?
Last but not least, Miyamoto acknowledged the amiibo shortage epidemic:
I’m sure you’re aware of the amiibo shortage situation, even with the back orders and repeat orders. We kind of have our hands full.

I agree, its frustrating that every fucking game will have amiibo content, what about giving content for players from actually playing the damn game? When i first saw amiibo i wished that it will fail, because here is the darn result.

Agreed. Those two can speak for themselves; amiibos are in my opinion one of the few things Nintendo is doing very right. Decent quality, affordable merchandise with a tangible in-game use, which gives them substance beyond merely looking pretty on peoples’ shelves (however small and insignificant it may be in a grand scheme of things). I’m very excited to own small statues of my favorite characters, but I don’t at all feel like I’m missing out on content by not activating all if any of them in my games.
I wouldn’t call amiibos “affordable” though. They’re damn EXPENSIVE for people wanting to collect them all. I can’t even buy new games anymore because of amiibo. I’m considering retiring from trying to buy EVERY one.

I never said Nintendo is dead, but THAT Nintendo which made games that were on a whole another level compared to other companies, is. They do still make good games, even great games, but revolutionary games that change the way everyone thinks about what can be done with individual genres without making them gimmicky as fuck? I don’t really give a shit about gamepad. The only game that REALLY makes sense for it is Nintendo Land. All other games either have almost insignificant features because of it, they’re gimmicky or they could’ve been done on a TV, but they just decided to put it on gamepad to show that it’s still important. 2 player co op games where both players can just go wherever would be perfect for Wii U, but there are almost no games that use it for that. Wind Waker HD could’ve had Tingle Turner updated and use that feature, but why would it, right? It’s just a gimmick now. Please tell me one game that couldn’t have existed without it. Wiimote at least got points there. Games wouldn’t make sense without it, but Gamepad? Nintendo Land and maybe Wario Ware are the only ones.

You seem to be under the impression that amiibos are hindering the production of games. Bare in mind that the programmers, 3D artists, etc working on Nintendo games aren’t the ones literally sitting down and “wasting” their precious game developing time making these figures. I mean you could say that amiibo production is taking away resources that could go toward making games, but I think that’s dead wrong. The amiibos would in fact be helping game development by bringing copious amounts of money in to Nintendo, helping to fuel progress in all fields.
