Metroid Prime: Federation Force was one of the titles revealed at this year’s Nintendo E3 2015 Digital Event. Reactions to the announcement were genuinely mixed with many disappointed that this was a spin-off title. However, after the game was showcased during the Treehouse sessions a few people were won over by Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Here’s a few details taken from the event.

- Game also runs on the regular 3DS
- Blast Ball could serve as a replacement for a traditional tutorial
- Concept for the game has been floating around for 10 years now
- Single player mode
- No four against four player matches
- Co-op four player mode where you fight as a team against space pirates

- Roughly 10 different missions on each planet
- Areas for you to look around and explore
- No visor scanning
- A mission involves Metroids
- Samus will make an appearance
- Move around in mechs that are outfitted before each mission
- Choose to be more of a “healer” by equipping repair capsules
- Arm yourself with super missiles
- Game is overseen by Nintendo’s Yoshihito Ikebata and Ryuichi Nakada
- 4-player co-op first-person shooter set in the Metroid Prime universe
- Local and online muliplayer
- Requires 4-player squads to complete different kinds of missions
- Missions have different objectives (for example; trying to capture certain kinds of creatures)
- Missions start with briefings
- Select different kinds of items and weapons to take into combat with you
- This includes Repair Capsules to Shield Generators to Missiles to Slow Beams
- Music done in-house at NLG, along with Kenji Yamamoto.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force Blast Ball
- Includes Blast Ball, which is a 3-on-3 sci-fi sport mode
- Shoot a ball into the opponent’s goal to score
- Gain a competitive edge by collecting and using a variety of individual power-ups, such as barriers
- Match ends when a team scores three goals
- Send the Blast Ball game for free to other Nintendo 3DS owners via Nintendo 3DS Download Play
- Being hit with the ball will damage your suit
- Take too much damage and you’ll have to wait to respawn
- Movement is mapped to the Circle Pad, ‘B’ jumps and ‘A’ fires your cannon, either in rapid bursts or a charged shot
- Holding down ‘R’ allows you to strafe with the Circle Pad or fine-tune your aim with the gyroscope
- Holding ‘L’ locks onto the ball
- While locked on to the ball, your mech’s lateral movement is much slower
- C-stick on the New 3DS demo units wasn’t used in the demo

I think the game well be fun enough, but 1) the art is less then steller 2) after all the wait we only get a spinoff ? I mean they have already said they are working on a 2D metroid, (clearly not this) and they have already said they have a hone system metroid is in the works (at this rate it well most likely be for the NX). We know that NX is a design platform and is mot just one device. Reggie basically just confirmed that the home/set top box version of NX well be the first device out. So all we can say at this point is the next real metroid is being made now for the next home system, and could be a launch tittle

The message is: “this isn’t the Metroid we wanted”, and with 92% dislike ratio they must have heard that message well. They showed other average games aswell, but only the Metroid one got 750,000 views so fast, so theres 750,000 people who care about Metroid being done wrong, right there. It doesn’t, it uses gyro, and or c-stick/that second stick you can buy for 3ds systems (I don’t know if they have the second stick for 2ds.)
I’d rather use Gyro controls than try to aim with my right hand. 2DS can’t use the Circle Pad Pro, sadly.

There was a leak a couple of days ago in /v/. It’s probably false, but if Meta Ridley is in this game, expect a 2D Metroid for 3DS to be announce any time soon.
I feel like if such a thing were in development, they’d have already announced it or at least referenced it to counteract all the negativity. Instead, all that has been said is there is no HD Metroid game currently in development and that if there were, it’d be planned for the NX anyways.

Leak is fake, Tanabe has nothing to do with 2D Metroid so if one was in development it would be made by Sakamoto’s Fusion/Zero Mission team at SPD.
I don’t follow your train of thought. Yes, Tanabe is in charge of Prime, not classic. The leaker said that a 2D Metroid is being developed by someone who’s not SDP. That leaves Sakamoto out, unless they bring him to the studio to act as the director of the project. As a sign of trust, people asked about something significative that would confirm the leak as real, and he said that Meta Ridley will be on Federation Force. Which is a very safe bet anyway, but let’s see. If he is in that title, then maybe the leak is real, which was the point of my previous post.
What do you not follow, if it’s not being done by any one at SPD, this is a clear sign that it’s fake, only SPD makes Metroid related games no one else in Nintendo, and before you ask its SPD 3: Retro, NST, NLG, and others under Tanabe and Team Sakamoto of SPD under Yoshio Sakamoto. If you really believe 4chan, a site that is notorious for fake Nintendo leak,s then I don’t know what to say. I believe a Nintendo dev or rep over some fake leaker at 4chan lol.
But SPD didn’t make Other M. In fact, if we get technical, by your definition SPD has never made a Metroid game.
I don’t believe the leak, but I’m willing to trust it until proven false, since we have a lot of strong evidence of NLG employees posting on /v/.
You should wish for it to be real as well, because outsourcing the project is the only way we’ll get another 2D game until Sakamoto decides to get to work again.
Actually a small part of spd 1 under Sakamoto worked on Other M they spoke with Sakamoto through email since he was at Team Ninja. SPD 1 made the artwork for Other M. Who says he isn’t? What do you know that others don’t? Other M exists, and it proves that Sakamoto doesn’t care about outsourcing the project so he can have more control over the final product. Nintendo’s studios help each other all the time, Sakamoto working with NLG, Retro or whomever it’s potentially doing the next game is not an implausible scenario at all.
Nintendo owns Metroid but it is up Sakamoto to decide what to do with it next. The same relationship as Microsoft and 343 Industries, Microsoft owns Halo but they given Halo to their own studio 343 Industries. So since 343 are the IP Managers of Halo they also own the franchise as well. Halo is theirs to do whatever with, just like Sakamoto and Metroid I can guarantee you this if Team Sakamoto is working on Metroid Dread what will you do if and when the game is a Metroid Fusion sequel but is a spiritual successor to Super Metroid will you enjoy it or will you bitch like a Primefag?
You keep repeating the same thing over and over again, and contradicting yourself. Sakamoto doesn’t own shit. Itoi, for example, does own the Mother series. Nintendo can’t do a Mother game without him, since they’re just the publisher.
Metroid, however, is a Nintendo IP. Nintendo can give the IP to whomever they want, be it a ‘second-party’ or third-party studio. I’m not even sure they need Sakamoto’s consent for that, but I’ll concede for the sake of the argument.
Let’s say Nintendo wants to make a Metroid game, they put NGL in charge of the project and ask for persmission. Sakamoto agrees, but he doesn’t want to get involved. You know what does this sound like? The actual Metroid game NLG was developing before Luigi’s Mansion, without Sakamoto’s involvement.
You are so fixed on the idea that there can’t be a Metroid game without Sakamoto that you don’t see the obvious facts:
1) There was a Metroid game unrelated to Sakamoto in the works
2) If Sakamoto has supreme power over the Metroid franchise, as you say, he’s the one to blame for the lack of 2D games since 2004
About your question, it depends on the quality of the game, since I’m not a retarded fanboy. It’d have to be at least better than Fusion, that’s the least I can expect after all these years.
And before you say anything about the Prime games, the standard of quality applies to them as well. Hunters was shit. Federation Force was shit. Good game are good games, no matter the style. If you want to avoid more than half of the games and lore of the franchise, that’s up ti you. But don’t act like you aren’t doing some stupid ass shit by not playing what’s essentially a vital part of videogame history at this point, you’re just flaunting your ignorance.

lol 8am here. Been up since… 5am something. Figured I’d get on my email & read all the MNN stuff before heading off to play Xenoblade Chronicles for 3DS. I really shouldn’t stay off the internet for weeks at a time because I always end up swamped with MNN emails when I do get on.

I understand the Salt concerning this game. I am also a huge Metroid fan. The difference between this and Triforce heroes is that I can say “Triforce Heroes is not my cup of Tea, Ill wait for Zelda Next Year”, BUT as a Metroid fan I can say “Not my cup of tea, Ill wait for…forever apparently.”. With that said, Although I do wish we get a proper metroid soon, lashing out on a spinoff is not the way to go. Lashing out for lack of Metroid IS the correct answer. I will not flame Pkmn Super Mystery Dungeon because I want my Wii U pokemon. Thus I will not lash out on federation force just because a need my Metroid fix. I WILL complain at the lack of games that we currently are missing though.
The concept for the game is sound, the execution, well that’s a whole different story.

Just looked over that leak again, I take back what I said about it being fake this is 100% true. The guy that leaked the 2d Metroid game was from NLG, was fired soon after (man was a hero) and everything he said falls inline with what occurred at e3, the other reason is b/c it falls inline with what Reggie said “We know fans want a proper Samus game.” I am both happy, worried, and mad at Nintendo. I’m happy b/c I finally get my 2d Metroid Fusion Sequel, I’m worried b/c it is being made by a second party along with what Sakamoto said before.

Without his team to stop him, his shit visions may return since he will be the producer, since he is the IP Manager (please don’t have much involvement just make the map like you did Super Metroid and make sure the team make the game play like a proper 2d Metroid Sakamoto, no more bad decisions). I’m mad a Nintendo b/c it seems like they are too good to make anything that is not Mario or Zelda. Starfox, Metroid, Fzero, Warioland, and Yoshi’s Island have all been outsourced to either second or third party devs. Are Nintendo too good to make these classic gems anymore?
