A Man Has Spent Six Years Crocheting Super Mario Bros 3 Map

mario_bros_3_yarn_2

A dedicated Super Mario Bros 3 fan from Norway has recreated the Super Mario Bros 3 map entirely out of yarn. The epic feat took the man six years to fully complete the World 1 map from the iconic video game. Kjetil Nordin, who is 31, says that it is “very emotional, fun and weird to have finished. It has taken such a long time.” You can check out plenty of images of the masterpiece, right here.

“The hardest thing has been to accept that it took such a long time. I’ve spent 800 hours crocheting and many hours researching and searching for the correct yarn.

“When the water was half way finished I saw that I had chosen the wrong shade of blue. It was almost purple, and very ugly, so I had to undo all of it. That took an extra week.”

Thanks, Thomas

      1. Normally, that would annoy me. But since even Nintendo is now ditching it, it sadly fits more than ever. :/ Thanks a lot, Nintendo, for ruining what little respect I did have for the Wii U.

      1. Seeing that the guy also travels the world as a formation parachuter, I’d say he’s got a pretty cool life on the side

    1. Well, he’s had it for 6 years and it looks fine. He only just “finished” it now, but for the past 6 years he has still had a rug. It’s just been unfinished.

      1. Na, it’s based on the 16-bit version. Even if he didn’t try to use as many colors as the SNES verison, the designs are still based it. (Dark blue HUD, detailed Dirt/Water)

  1. *claps* Bravo. I wonder if he got so pissed at Nintendo’s backstabbing E3 event that he burned that sucker to ash after watching the digital event.
