Nintendo President Says He’s “Very Grateful” For Splatoon Sales

Splatoon has been nothing short of a success for Nintendo, and considering it’s a brand IP, it has performed extremely well in the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. It’s not too surprising as it’s a great game coupled with a gorgeous art style and super fun gameplay. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has informed investors that he is extremely grateful for Splatoon sales as they weren’t too sure how well the game would fare.

“Having received high recognition from our consumers for its novelty, this title’s sell-through sales reached 1 million units in less than a month from its release. We feel very grateful for this, since our view was not so optimistic prior to release, for it being a non-series title.”

    1. You sir, are the greatest.

And I say 10,000 copies move in 3 months. Low numbers for a low quality game.

      1. Dude you haven’t even played it. I admit it wasn’t particularly exciting, but the people who played it at E3 loved it. It might be a really good game.

        1. Someone should ask those same players if they ever played the real Metroid Prime games before that- what they respond with will be REALLY telling.

          1. So having played or not played a specific game series will determine your understanding of the basic concept of fun? I don’t care how good you think the original prime series was (which I personally found too easy and dull), if someone thinks the new game is fun then they’re opinion shouldn’t be discredited by previous gaming experiences

  1. It’s because it was a fresh and new thing. Eating the same pizza is great and adding some extra toppings is nice too but eating something new like a human brings change… Humans…. Heheheheheheheheh

  2. Maybe now Nintendo wont be as afraid to make a new franchise because splatoon shows that creativity pays off

  3. You know your game has made it when you can play it in Minecraft and you can play in Team Fortress 2 two of the most iconic games in the past decade.

  4. Nintendo didn’t expect one of their final Wii U games to sell. They already have moved on, they figured everyone else had too.

  5. It really needs to sell more. Another million would be nice. I mean honestly, there are ten million Wii U’s out there. Wtf are they playing if they didnt buy Splatoon this year?

It’s kind of shocking knowing there are 9 million Wii U owners that did NOT buy Splatoon… I mean, what the hell are they thinking?

    1. I currently have 18 Wii U games. I have not bought Splatoon yet because I am still playing them games. 9 million Wii U does not mean 9 million owners. One of my friends have bought two Wii U and about to buy a third because he wore out his gamepad and instead of sending it in to get it fixed, he just buys another one.

      1. That’s incredibly anecdotal, I really doubt many others have done the same. HOWEVER, you’re right. 9 million sold doesn’t mean 9 million owners. It means more than 9 million owners. People buy consoles for whole families. I bet there are millions of pairs of brothers who both ‘own’ the same console.

  6. I’ll be “GRATEFUL” if they undo could this update they’ve recentlt added to Splatoon.

Because right now I feel like when DMC was talking to Russell about his lil brotger Run in “Krush Groove” ……”NOW EVERYTHINGS FUCKED UP!!!”

        1. Wasn’t that only supposed to happen if your gear had a certain ability? I played quite a bit earlier with my usual getup and didn’t notice any slowdown when super jumping

  7. to be honest there might be 9 million wii u’s out there but how many of those 9 million are broken or are sitting in GameStop’s used section.

and when he says that he was unsure how sales were going to do on a new IP instead of an already existing franchise this is the reason why we have so many games from pre-existing franchises and so few new ips because companies are so scared to make something new just remember when you don’t make something new people will eventually get tired of the same old things

    1. Yes they did because they look like shit no matter qhat fanboys (like you) say, oh by the way, super smash bros royale flopped hard too haha.

  8. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>And I would be even more grateful if we can eliminate the Xbots in the next war>>>

  9. Meanwhile PlayStation 4 and Xbox one have no first party support compared to Nintendo just broken aaa mainstream trash.

  10. Well, the dev team made a great, fun, addicting game and, seriously, no pun/reference intended, it feels fresh. This game deserves every sale it gets- I’m even trying to push some of my friends towards getting a copy.

  11. Translation: We at Nintendo believe in only our milkable franchises.. thanks for buying this fun, addictive, yet ultimately rushed to market game.

  12. 1 million in a month? MK8 and Smash Bros. 4 nailed that shit within days. If they hadn’t fucked up with no voice chat, lacking content and options, it would’ve sold better.

  13. Ridley 4 Smash DLC!

Now if they had delayed it til August when the game was fully complete or at least late July, it probably could have sold a million in less than a month instead. Oh well. Just 1 more month to go before I even consider buying this game.
